I agree that now they are....However, before Ozzy burnt himself out, they were parallels. Not necessarily in their styles, but talent wise. That b!tch of his needs to quit parading him around like a side-show freak just to make another buck. And I mean Black Sabbath..Not necessarily when Ozzy went solo. Although I was a big Ozzy fan, I can't agree that they were parallels talent wise. Iron Maiden ran circles around Ozzy talentwise. I was not a Black Sabbath fan so as far as I'm concerned, Iron Maiden ran circles around them talentwise. Although I imagine there are many that would curse me for the thinking that. Edit: I would add on that on Speak of the Devil, the cd where Ozzy remade the Black Sabbath songs in a more modern and heavier manner, those songs absolutely kicked a**!!!! As musicians, Obviously, Iron Maiden is more talented, except for maybe Randy Rhodes, but one thing you shouldn't forget is that Sabbath created a genre of music that still, to this day has a lasting impression. They have influenced more bands than any other heavy rock band out there, including Led Zepplin.

He looked like the joker. Yeah that was scary. I thought he looked like Kelly. I'm glad Snyder didn't have the Skins run out of a giant football helmet while Ozzy lip synched to Crazy Train. Just a bit over the top, don't you think?
Predicto
At least Ozzy now has a great drummer backing him up. (Mike Bordin is a friend of mine. He used to be in Faith No More.)
zoony
Ahh.. Faith No More. AngelDust is one of my favorite albums... and maybe one of the most under-rated rock albums of all time
ntotoro
At least Ozzy now has a great drummer backing him up.(Mike Bordin is a friend of mine. He used to be in Faith No More.) Ozzy's saving grace has been his backing band for the last few years. Mike Bordin and Robert Trujillo (pre-Metallica, obviously) started on the tour for whatever album that was that came out in '01 or '02. Can't remember the title. Mike Bordin was still playing at Ozzfest in '03, but Jason Newsted was playing bass. It was kind of funny hearing Ozzy do the band intros because he would announce "Mr Michael Bordin" and I swore he was saying "Mr Michael Bolton."

Predicto
I wonder if that has to do with the giant stadium/TV thing. All halftime shows seem to be lipsynced now - maybe it doesn't work to show a live stadium show live on TV because of delay and crowd noise/feedback and stuff like that. I dunno. Oh, even though I was never a fan of their stuff, there is no doubting their influence and I can appreciate what they accomplished in terms of the genre. But, as a teen in the 80's, that distinctive 70's Black Sabbath sound, however heavy it was at the time, was not quite rebellious enough for me and I just simply did not get into them. Not until the Speak of the Devil album I mentioned in my previous post was I even able to appreciate the songwriting. Oh, and Randy Rhodes was certainly an exception talent wise. That man could play! I was never into Sabbath until I heard that album. As I started playing guitar, I started to appreciate them even more. But I can certainly undersand someone having trouble "getting" them. >>Spearhead>>
I missed the pre-game because I knew it was going to be crap, but Code- are you SURE Zakk was faking? I have seen him live on a few occasions and the guy is the truth. Once during a song his bass player's monitor and amp went out, so he just ad libbed a solo for about 4 minutes while the roadies got his bass player re routed-AMAZING And if it wasn't for Sabbath there would be no Iron Maiden or 90% of metal for that matter. I'm a Zakk fan, he was faking. I know the song on guitar very well. You could hear an artificial harmonic, one of his trademark ones I might add, at one point, but he was playing the fill that is normal for that place in the song. You could see him fingering the fill but hear the harmonic. There were a few other places I wasn't sure about, but that moment made me sure.
