codeorama
The starving pets and stories about all the dogs left behind breaks my heart. Does anyone know if there is an organization that is looking for adoptive families? At the least, I want to donate a good sum of money to help but I want to make sure it ends up in the right hands, otherwise, I would definately consider adopting a dog. The Showstopper
saw somethin on the news this morning sayin there were some groups out there rescueing them, IMO they should focus on rescuing them rather than half the stupid people there, i.e. the looters and the people w/ firearms. @DCGoldPants
I actually checked the Humane Society website yesterday and there was donation info there. I was hoping they would take the animals up the east coast so we could save some. Haven't seen it yet. Oh yeah, I think Petsmarts' in the area are collecting cash also. We are not really in a position to take another dog, seeing that we already have 2 and a baby on the way, but I'd still like to. I feel so bad for them. Huly
We have 2 members there working with Noah's Wish. They are a disaster relief orgainization for animals. www.noahswish.org Also they will be moving some pets (if their real family can not take them) to shelters and rescues throughout the country. BROOD is taking in the Basset Hounds. I know of 1 coming soon.
Huly
Check with your local shelter and you can make donations to Noah's Wish. All shelters receiving animals and Noahs Wish need supplies and money.

@DCGoldPants
really? in this area? Do you know which shelter? and when? I was thinking about a dog, and this would be a good time, and a good thing to do.

I was thinking about a dog, and this would be a good time, and a good thing to do. You might want to follow the local news a little closely in the next day or two, just in-case. I heard on the news last night that hundreds of rescued animals were being brought to the DC/Metro area shelters. That number could have been hyperbole, the same with another reports I read saying that thousands of cats & dogs had been rescued, then again it may be accurate. I wouldn't want to take the chance. These animals need homes.

pez
I know that Huly is serious about this subject as she participates in an organization to help place dogs. I know she has been constantly doing inqueries since the whole NO mess started...

Huly
I am serious! Like I said I have 2 BROOD members in LA helping Noahs Wish. I know dogs , cats, etc are going to be coming into all shelters. They are first trying to match owner and pet up first. Some people are having to turn in their pets because they have no place to go home to and shelters do not takes pets. The news said 50 in the DC metro area last night but non one has it listed yet as to where. You can probably call Fox 5 News and ask and if I hear anything I will let you know. I am waiting on a call from a WV shelter that is getting some in to this week or next week and they are to notify me of any other Basset Hounds. gridironmike
Unfortunately, these guys are dead serious. Very sad. Help comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms. If a way for someone to help is by adopting a deserted or freely given pet, what is the problem? It is better than having them contribute to the diseases that are brewing in that flood water. Huly
Some families in Sir Lanka where we stepped in depend on farming and livestock so there is a need. Also how would you feel after you are safe knowing your pet is still out there. I would not have left my pets in the first place. They all would have been in the car when I evacuated. Also a big scene portrayed on the news is the little boy screaming and crying when the cops took his dog snowball away. These people have nothing left atleast give them their pets! ntotoro
Also a big scene portrayed on the news is the little boy screaming and crying when the cops took his dog snowball away. I saw on TV yesterday that they were either recently reunited or would soon be. Can't remember which. It would be a no-brainer for me if I was told I'd have to leave my animals behind. I'd either find an alternative means or stay with them. It's not fair to them when Laura and I are all they have in this world. My dog, at least, is chipped. Very inexpensive insurance for a "just in case" scenario.

Who cares about a dog when people are suffering. I don't. I have had pets, and I'm a animal lover, but if it came down to my pet and a total stranger, I'll choose the stranger.
