Dirk Diggler
NFC East 1. Philadelphia — Just too consistently good and this could be the best defense they've had since 1991. *2. Washington - If Ramsey comes through, only Carolina and Philly are better in the NFC. If he doesn't, this is an 8 win team. 3. Dallas - A great infusion of talent in the offseason but they are either too young or past their prime in too many areas. 4. New York - They usually play their best when no one is expecting them to but their offense is a year away. Their defense could surprise though. Division thoughts: I would not be surprised if all 4 teams are in the top 10-12 in total defense. NFC Central 1. Minny - Like the Colts, this team is just a little too much finesse to go very far. They win this division by default. 2. Chicago - My pick to win the division before the Grossman injury. Love the defense and they will be a team that no one wants to play down the stretch. 3. Green Bay - The end of the line for Favre. And there's no defense to bail him out. 4. Detroit - Nothing can sink a team like a poor offensive line. Now that Garcia is done, all the eggs are in Harrington's basket. That's not a good thing. Division thoughts: The worst division in the league. NFC South 1. Carolina - Delhomme is the epitome of a gamer. Last year's litany of injuries showed just how deep this team is. *2. Atlanta - Nobody is more exciting than Vick but he needs to get that completion % up. They are very green at receiver so it's hard to expect vast improvement in the passing game. The secondary will continue to hold them back. 3. Tampa - The Oline is still a mess and the defense is not getting any younger. A year away from stepping up. 4. New Orleans - I didn't expect much from this team before the disaster so... Division thoughts: Your QB will be soar if they are playing in this division - great Dline talent. NFC West 1. St Louis - Great homefield advantage. Translation: 10 wins and a guaranteed 2nd round exit. 2. Arizona - If a better more mobile QB was playing being this shaky Oline, they'd be my pick for the division. The defense is very, very good though. 3. Seattle - Holmgren's swansong 4. San Francisco - I'm not sure Nolan is much of an improvement over Erickson. If they played in the AFC East, they'd win 1 game. Division thoughts: A lot of finesse in this division but not much substance. I expect the NFC East to dominate them to the tune of 11-5. AFC East 1. New England - If I need to explain why I'm sorry about the coma. 2. Buffalo - The type of team that no one will want to play. Could be a lot of 13-10 games. 3. NY Jets - Very tough schedule. Not sure Pennington is healthy either. Still should win 8. 4. Miami - It could get worse before it gets better. This is not the division to steal games in though Saban will get his share against others. Division thoughts: The toughest division in the league provided Miami isn't the same doormat they were last season. AFC North 1. Cincinnati - Call it a hunch. Their offense should be top 5 and their defense will be faster and entering Year 3 when Lewis's Baltimore unit took off. 2. Pittsburgh - They won't win this division again unless they get more from the passing game. Plus, you can't get those bounces 2 years in a row, can you? 3. Baltimore - QBs make receivers, not the other way around. 4. Cleveland - Trent Dilfer? Trent Dilfer? I'm sorry, but Trent Dilfer? Division thoughts: Great defenses or bad QBs? I say a little of both. AFC South 1. Indy - They might finally get "them" in their building. Be careful what you wish for. 2. *Jacksonville - One of the most physical teams in football. They can overwhelm most offenses. 3. Tennessee - This team will not be the easy out most envision. Steve McNair is your comeback player of the year. 4. Houston - You're getting the feeling that I don't like the teams with holes on their offensive lines? You're right. Division thoughts: These teams just can't run with Indy. Jville should have the gap closed by 2006 though. AFC West 1. Denver - Very nice depth but Jake Plummer can only take you so far. 2. *San Diego - They are the only team to return all starting 22 but nobody will underestimate them this season. It's still not enough to keep them out of the playoffs. 3. Kansas City - The defense makes strides but the offense falls off due to old age. Reminds me of the 92-93 Skins who got old in a hurry on the offensive line. 4. Oakland - Not enough defense to compete. They should be fun to watch though. Division thoughts: Each team will finish in the top 10 in rushing. Each team will win at least 8 games. NFL MVP: QB Daunte Culpepper Defensive POY: DE Dwight Freeney Comeback POY: QB Steve McNair AFC Championship Game: New England over Indy NFC Championship Game: Carolina over Philly Super Bowl: New England over Carolina
goldenster95
The 'Skins could be a huge force in the NFC if (1) there are no major injuries, (2) the o-line plays up to its pre-season form, and (3) the defense holds sway as it did last year. Mania
I don't see New England going to the superbowl and they may not even win the division. I see the Jets challenging for the division, but NE will probably win it. They will have a noticeable drop off on offense after the loss of Charlie Weiss. I don't feel they will drop off as much on defense because Belichick is a defensive genious. Just remember everytime Parcell's went to the Super Bowl, Belichick was the DC. RedskinsNation
Now thats a prediction...that i like I guess I have to agree w/you....but the guy has Cincy to win the AFC North and he "would" have had the Bears to win the NFC North if Grossman hadnt got injured (instead has them 2nd)..... G-Prime
Think you underestimated the Jets
Riggo-toni
Solid analysis. Only thing I disagree with is I see the Bears finishing at the bottom of their division. No way are they going to win more than 4 games with a 4th round rookie QB.
