Dr. Z's Half-Arsed Explanation

4. REDSKINS (4-12)

I know this is a vicious prediction, and since Washington has some of the most dedicated e-mailers in the land, I expect to hear from an army of them next week, just as I did last year when I picked the Skins ... what ... 5-11 or something like that? Gregg Williams' defense shouldn't let this happen, but it was good last year, too, and so what? I think the Patrick Ramsey-Mark Brunell-Jason Campbell merry-go-round is a bad situation and the sign of a deeper problem -- namely that this team doesn't quite know what it's doing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think suggesting that Joe Gibbs doesn't know what he's doing indicates that you don't know what you're doing, Mr. Zimmerman.

Does it not make sense to any sports writers that we are in year two of the Gibbs era, and that the QB situation was suspect when he got here?

Do they forget we were not the only team who wanted Brunell last year? That Ramsey was still unproven?

Giving Ramsey a worthy chance at starting and having a talented rookie learning on the bench builds confidence, for me as a fan atleast, in our team's future.

Obviously anyone is entitled to think he is a fool, but it is a prediction. Predictions are pointless and not worth thinking about. I haven't seen a prediction yet that actually affects what happens out on the field. That being said however, it is a little funny imagining all the people sending hate mail last year over his 5-11 prediction and yet he was only one game off. I'm sure there was a lot of mentioning of a HOF coach in those emails as their will be this time.

I think the Skins will be at least as good as they were last year. I don't see how they are stepping back any. I'm sure at least 90% of the board agrees with me on that as well. However, Dr. Z doesn't, but who cares about predictions anyway? What any of us think makes no difference on what happens on that field.

Meh, there's no love lost between me and Dr. Z, but what have we shown yet this season? Nothing.

How do these guys make their rankings? Primarily on the basis of past performance--and as Henry has said, our performance for the bulk of the last 15 years has been subpar.

Proving them wrong will be sweet, but we still have yet to prove anything in any forum that matters.

Ok, enough obnoxious rhetorical questions from me. You're still my boy CHL! :)

The Ramsey-Brunell-Campbell "merry-go-round"??....Merry-go-round??...

What exactly did the Skins do?...They cut their third string QB and replaced him with a rookie QB in the first round. This shows the team doesn't quite know what it's doing??...

Or perhaps you can take the view that Gibbs felt the Skins needed a steady veteran hand at QB upon his arrival (cuz the revolving door of QBs before his arrival had already done it's damage to the franchise), and went out and got Brunell. How would THAT show that the team doesn't quite know what it's doing??...

Or you could even take the viewpoint that while Gibbs likes Ramsey, he's not confident in resting the team's future on him overcoming his flaws...so he invests some draft picks into aquiring a QB who does give him a lot of confidence, knowing that Hasselbeck would never become starter quality material and that Brunell's time here is severly short. How would that show that the team doesn't know what it's doing??...

A prediction of 4-12 for this team, with this defense and this coach, is idiotic. And chalking up the reason for that 4-12 finish to what a non-existent "QB Merry-go-round" tells you about their football knowledge is absurd.

What direction do the Cowboys have?

Brought in a new (aka old) QB.

So what confidence does Parcells have in the heavily hyped Drew Henson?

Revamping the Oline.

I'm sure they'll be cohesive right from the start.

Changing offensive coordinators.

This is an indication of stability and direction for the franchise.

Changing the entire defensive scheme.

Again, stability and direction appears a-okay.

Yet, isn't he picking the Cowboys to make the playoffs?

:jerk:

let's just ignore the improvments in the OL, WR, and starting second year of same system & coaches.... not to mention overall improvements in QB play from both PR & MB

When did we get improvements from Ramsey? All I see is a horrible INT in every preseason game.

I personally do not care what the media thinks, good or bad. Many of these journalists know as much about football as many of us do, however they are paid to opinionate. Everyone has their opinion, and some in the end turn out right and others wrong. We'll see with this "Dr".

The only thing that matters is the standings. This is football so all predictors can cram their foot in their mouth at any instant. But the QB situation must be settled in order for this team to go anywhere. I don't see the Cowboys or the Giants finishing higher than .500. Philly will probably end up winning 12-14 games again.

Come on fellas let them talk and put our team down. WE WILL MAKE THEM EAT THOSE WORDS. We were very close last year the way we lost so many close games. Our team has come together and our offense will be better just because we have a new center and Jansen back. I dont even listen anymore because they dont know what they are talking about. Here's a perfect example they say Bill Parcells has never had back to back losing seasons. Joe Gibbs has only had 2 losing seasons in his entire career including last year. This will be a wonderful season because everyone is disrespecting the Redskins. One game at a time at the end of the season we will be in the playoffs Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs will make sure of that.
