FootballGuy2677
Hey i just joined here today. Ive got a question for everybody and i know this is really old but have never understood this move...Why in the world did the redskins let go of fred smoot? I really wanna know this cuase fred smoot really did seem like one of the premier players on the redskins...Thanks :point2sky :dallasuck :point2sky
dreamshatterer
Because he wanted more money than we offered to him which was more money than Shawn Springs who clearly had a much better year. In other words, he wanted pro bowl money, and hasn't even come close to making it.

Funkyalligator
These players...Were there others that you were talking about in addition to Smoot? Perhaps Pierce? Both were about the money....we offered plenty to Smoot and enough to Pierce....Pierce only started for one season here and prior to that was basically a special teams player...yes he did a good job but he got way too much money from the Giants....As for Smoot.....he got a bit greedy but I can't really blame him......Basically the Skins have started doing something in the past two years with the addition of Gibbs and the staff...they are doing an exacting cost benefit analysis of each player and offering them a good contract.....if they want too much...they are gone.....gone are the days of the free spending Snyder.....thank god....admittingly Gibbs did make a mistake in the Brunell signing but then again why shouldn't he be given another chance.... MCnDaHouse
Smoot was good but wanted way too much money. If we had given him what he wanted we wouldn't have been able to sign or re-sign others that we really needed. MC
lunarluau
The Skins offer to Smoot was fair and was pretty comparable to what the Vikings offred in overall $$, however, what the Vikings did offer was $18M in money over the first three years of the contract. I like Fred Smoot and was sorry to see him go, but he wasn't $18M over the first three years of a contract good. :logo:
