RumpofSteelSKIN
Eagles just sent word to local media in Philly that they've removed tag from Simon, making him an unrestricted free agent. My source is someone in the Philadelphia media. They did the same with Trotter a few years back. Simon is now free to sign with any team with no compensation due to the Eagles. Parlett316
No way, I don't believe the Skins have the cap room for him. Then again, I don't know the cap situation!
Y100Rocks
Whoa. Why? The eagles must be close to a long term deal with someone if they need to clear his 5.1 million. (possibly westbrook) There is no other reason to just let him go...
skinsfan93
Simon's not worth the 5-6 million a year he is seeking. He's solid but by no means a superstar caliber player. Plus, we can't afford him anyway.

We do have the cap room for him. The question is whether he'll be asking for too much money. Given that DT can really be the anchor of your defense, and that a young DT like Simon paired up with another young one like Griffin can prove to be an enormous boost for your defense. Simon slipped somewhat last year, but if you don't think he's capable of superstar things, you'd better think again. He did really well in 2003 and earned a trip to the Pro-Bowl. Simon and Walker proved to be the best one-two DT punch in football as late as early 2004.

Simon was overweight from missing training camp in the beginning of the year, and Walker was playing with an injury for a good part of the year that he sustained in week 1. But now Darwin Walker is back, and Hollis Thomas are healthy and starting. Sam Rayburn just needs to get back healthy and he and Mike Patterson will be the the 3 and 4's. SkinsD
Would be an awesome pick up but is he a "Gibbs type guy"
Mooka
No way we have any cap space to sign him. Shame... For a D-Tackle theguy is really sturdy. Don't think he's ever had a major injury and he makes plays.
Westbrook36
Reid had no more use for him since Mike Patterson has exceeded expectations. Add Patterson to Hollis Thomas, Sam Rayburn, and Darwin Walker, and the move makes sense. Plus, Reid doesn't have time for Simon's show up fat and lazy to camp routine anymore. The 5 million will be used to make Michael Lewis and Westbrook lifetime Eagles.
TD_washingtonredskins
The 5 million will be used to make Michael Lewis and Westbrook lifetime Eagles. If that's the case, then it's very tough to criticize the move.
Westbrook36
It also sends a message to the guys WHO ARE ACTUALLY IN CAMP. Especially the DTs who have been busting their asses since day one while Simon has been sitting on the couch eating and getting even fatter. MiamiDolphins13
He's severley over rated, the Eagles realized that they plug anyone into his position and the defense works just as well. He's expendable, if the Skins take him maybe he'll be good because of their great system, but any defense without many talented players on D and he'll be a joke......
