Marshall

I'd have to go back and watch it again, but was it Marshall that missed the tackle that sprung Parker on the long run?

I remember that play. I was in the stands. Marshall banged his forearm on him, but was going the wrong way and was out of position to have a chance to make a tackle. Marshall also blitzed all by himself on another play, but the QB threw it too quickly for a completion.

I was watching Marshall a lot, he's one of my favorite players. I like him because he came up through the trenches, he's smart and tough, even if he's not that big. After each defensive play, he looked towards the bench to Williams to get the next defensive call. He'd stand in front of the ball and turn to face the defense. The players huddled in front of him him and he called every defensive play with the starting defense. He didn't do anything specatcular during the game, but he seemed to do a very nice job regarding leadership and making sure everybody was where they were supposed to be. He played MLB and OLB, but there was a whole lot of shifting going on all the time during the snap count.

I'm glad I'm not an offensive lineman trying to keep track of my assignment vs a Williams defense.

No doubt. I was trying to keep track of where players on defense were on the field all game...it was damn hard. They kept moving all over the place.

I'm with you Mark, I've been pulling for Marshall too....I even have his jersey,(that is, if duct-taping over the name on a 70th anniversary Armistead jersey counts!)I think he did a fine job and more than one head will be turned with his play.

That is cool that you have his jersey. So far, I haven't seen a fan with a Marshall jersey yet.

I was lucky enough to run across one of his player-worns last winter. No duct tape on it either! I'll wear it either opening day or the following game. :-)

McCune is quite a ways away from being an NFL regular.

Remember that the biggest loss due to Pierce's departure was NOT his athleticism but his knowledge of the defense and his ability to get guys lined up. Cornelius Griffin said as much in the offseason.

There is more to playing the QB spot on this defense than being cut

McCune right now is learning how to cover kicks and punts to earn his daily wage in the NFL.

Give him a chance to become acclimated to the NFL before putting those kinds of expectations on him.

My prediction is that if Marshall would go down due to injury at any point you would see the Redskins either start Holdman inside, switch Washington inside and start Holdman at SLB, or start Clifton Smith before they would go to McCune.

2006 is when you will see him get a better shot at contributing on D.

Look, everyone misses some tackles. Even guys like Ray Lewis. They pay guys on the other side of the ball, too. Sometimes they're pretty good, too.

All in all, Marshall looked in charge out there, to me. He was getting guys in position. He was reading the offense, and he was fast to the ball. He looks more athletic than Pierce. He's MUCH quicker in coverage.

I hope all these clods who kept pointing out the losses of Pierce and Smoot choke on something when this defense improves from last season.

Actually, this is a play I did rewind and watch during the commercial. It was #57 who over-ran the play then got sealed by the block that sprung the runner. Good job guys!
You are absolutely correct. I remember that play...it was Holdman that got caught off balance and was blocked easily out of the running lane. I remember watching that because that is when I thought to myself..."where is LaVar"?
