Boy2Der
:applause: These two are great the only thing that would make me worry about are WRs are injuries but the way moss played today and patten last week was great. Moss definetly made Ramsey look better because if he didin't make that cut back on that one cath it is just a 16 yard gain instead of a 40 yard. I just wan to see them get some TDs I want to know if the height may be an issue in the red zone but seince we haven't taken that many shots down there its understandable. Moss really stepped it up though and proved he can make plays and what is really great is that these are two new WRs in a new system on a new team with a new Qb and already they are doing good things by midseason they should ne in trenched in the system and have timing down pat and make us forget about Woes and Rodner whatever there names were. Warhead36
Agreed. Where did that Sideline Santana nickname come from? That one pass instead of running OOB he kept going and juked his way to an additional 10-15 yards.

Problem with him that he's very inconsistant. He would have games with 5 catches with 110 yards, then 2 games with 3 catches with 30 yards. Good corners eat him up

redman
Moss is a big play threat, so it's only natural that his stats will fluctuate game to game. Patten, although very fast in his own right, appears to run more of the shorter and intermediate routes than does Moss. Twice in two games we've seen Ramsey nail Patten on a 15-yard crossing route; I don't recall Moss running any such route, although I missed the first game. As the saying goes, there is no substitute for speed. These guys are getting separate on every play, which means the defense must either go to a zone to try to negate the speed, go to some form of double coverage, or risk a single CB getting beat in one-on-one coverage. If they go to the zone, that opens up the running game and our WR's are good enough to find the seams in the zone if we need them too. Double coverage of course frees up other people, and in one-on-one coverage it's only a matter of time before our WR's get open with their speed. We have a lot of options with these guys. PREDICTOR
All the things some of us have been telling you pessimists all along. The Redskins have UPGRADED the receiving staff. But nooooooo....you would say Coles was great, even though he couldn't outrun anybody after he caught the ball and he couldn't ever get behind somebody deep. Noooooo. Moss is a downgrade from Coles you would say. And how does getting an old guy like Patten who was the 3rd receiver on the Patriots help us? After all Garder was a true number 2 receiver and Patton is a number 3 receiver? I REMEMBER YOU GUYS SAYING THIS. We have 2 quality receivers who have averaged 18 yards per catch. That is an upgrade. kingchris626
Moss is nice. He tries to make catches that I think coles would have given up on. He seems to jump pretty high too.
TD_washingtonredskins
I have been very impressed with them so far. I know it's preseason, but they always seem to be very open (it could be the scheme, but they've had success other places as well). I'm hoping it's our scheme and their talent and NOT that other teams are playing very vanilla defense.

We knew what we had with Toeles (sic) and 50/50 and knew the O wasn't going to happen with them. Nevermind the fact that neither one wanted to be here. Epistopheles
Do you remember seeing any of our receivers open last year? These guys WANT to be here, they want to perform, and they're making plays. They spread the field just like they're supposed to, and Portis has big-ass holes to run through. I'm really starting to think we're going to chew some teams up and spit them out. I can't wait for September.
bulldog
I never thought the Redskins needed TO or Randy Moss to have a productive pass offense. There were too many examples of successful NFL teams from our own 1982 team to the New England teams that won the Super Bowl without having the league's leading receiver in terms of numbers on the roster The national media critics thought we were losing a lot by jettisoning Coles and Gardner, but that was a superficial analysis based on what people thought these two COULD do in a pass offense geared to their strengths and with some other key parts thrown in the mix. What this offseason was about was Gibbs and Co. looking for receivers that would fit THIS offense, not some hypothetical offense being run somewhere else. If Coles is productive in NY, good for him. We have a better deep option on the outside now in Moss, one who is younger and able to contribute on ST as well when called upon. If Gardner is productive in Carolina, good for him. He was far too inconsistent here to be considered a 'possession' receiver and didn't have the deep speed to be a primary threat. David Patten has better hands, runs better routes and is far more reliable. The Redskins 'won' in the trade of these players in that we got the players this team needs to be successful. What the other players do on their new teams is really irrelevant to that discussion.
TimFolk
Santana is a gamebreaker, he should have caught the Ramsey pass that was underthrown though.

Yeah, I think that's the big thing, that they didn't want to be here, esp Coles. Their new teams (Jets and Panthers) seem to be pretty happy with them now. sknsgirl
our wr rock, thrash is the weak link But have you watched Thrash on special teams?! I was amazed to see him last year. He was always the first guy down the field, and remember all those punts he downed inside the 5? That was no accident. He's great on special teams! bulldog
Thrash is probably one of the best #4 receivers in the game. Think about it. The Redskins have a guy in a backup job that was a starter on two Eagles teams that made it to the NFC title game. I am not saying he put up 1,500 yard seasons but he has a lot of NFL experience and has excellent athletic ability. He is also durable and contributes on ALL the ST coverage and return units. And that is the weak link? How about McCants who in his fourth season is 'trying' to play ST and Jacobs, who can't seem to get on the field? I love Jacobs' potential but at some point you have to show it. This guy seems to get hurt whenever a strong wind blows.
