luckydevil
Isn't much more plausible that Football records/careers are tarnised by steroids? Especially since testing didn't start in the NFL until the late late 1980's? Yeah, I would agree However, numbers/records mean very little to the avg NFL fan (why it is not getting the same about buzz). The same cannot be said about baseball. jbooma
As for Schilling - he has that right to an opinion. Doesn't me he isn't an ass or that he is wrong.I wonder if Franky ever used the amphetamines that were rampant back in the 1960's and 1970's. Also - how come Baseball records are always singled out. Isn't much more plausible that Football records/careers are tarnised by steroids? Especially since testing didn't start in the NFL until the late late 1980's? Because records mean so much more in baseball then they do in football. It is all about records in baseball.
Guest sith lord
what's funny is that they are "dead wrong" based solely on your opinion. to me, their opinion carries more weight since they are actually baseball players. not only players, but players that have consistantly shown respect for the game. schilling is directly affected by this cheater as they were/are playing the game concurrently. an analogy: you're playing flag football in the league championship game. an opponent has his flags tucked, slips through several "tackles" and scores the winning touchdown. you would be, i hope, pissed, and would complain to the powers that be about his conduct. a fan watching the game looks to his buddy and says "geez, that guy needs to get a life. it's just a game that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. it's not like that guy stole his car or anything serious." who's right? who's wrong? cheating is wrong, and those affected by the cheating have every right to demand a remedy. especially in a statistics driven sport like baseball. raffy got caught... doesn't matter if we know how long he was cheating- he did it. for the record, i'd expect a similar reaction if big mac got caught cheating. there aren't shades of gray here. They're wrong by wanting to take away all of his records. We can assume he used steroids before now and I'm sure he did, but it can't be proven. That's why he won't be charged for lying to congress. But it does make people look like hypocrits when they jump all over Palmeiro, but turn the other cheek when a football player is caught.
Taylor Made
You know why people are booing Palmeiro and not Jamal Lewis? Because he lied to the public and Congress. It was just a scumbag move. Being a cheater PLUS liar will get you a lot of boos. I see little connection with the Jamal Lewis case with Rafael Palmeiro. Do you see people booing Giambi ? What was wrong with Schillings' comments? Did he steal your girlfriend or something? He was not out of line.

Who has served time for setting up a drug deal, I might add. They're not booing Giambi because he hasn't tested positive yet and he was on a tear last month. And as for Schilling, he puts his nose in everybodys buisness. He's become the resident authority on everything.

Because people aren't booing him? Lewis' criminal offense was not related to his sport whereas Palmeiro's criminal offense was. People are booing Palmeiro because he LIED, twice. Schilling was asked a question and responded. Am I missing something here? I'm not familiar with any other times Schilling has made headlines over his comments. There has to be some other comments for you to make an entire thread bashing Schilling over some mild comments.

The records that mean ANYTHING as far as raffy is concerned is his 3000 hits/500 HR record...which he accomplished while his appeal was being DENIED by MLB. It can easily be proven, MLB has all the test results in the past, remember it wasn't untill this year they started to punish the players.

Are you sure? I was on the impression that drug testing started recently. I also remember seeing on TV one of the congressmen commenting on the Palmeiro situation and he was asked about the possibilities of Palmeiro getting charged with lying and he said it would be tough to prove he took steroids up to that point. Guest sith lord
I don't know what kind of shot he got in the playoffs, I know he hasn't been caught lying to congress and testing positive for banned substances. Does someone lying to congress and someone using steroids in sports really bug you that much? A "PRESIDENT" I supported, lied to congress, and you know what, I didn't loose a second of sleep. I think you're just picking for the sake of picking.

I already explained that. And as for Schilling, there has been other comments he had made. There was the Edgar Renteria situation in St. Louis. There was the A-Rod situiation. There was the Piniella situation. He has made other comments as well, but I can't remember all of them. You just get tired of the same guy putting his nose in other teams buisness. dchogs
No, but Jamal Lewis' offense could effect both you, me or anybody else in society. and Lewis paid his debt to society in general. Raffy must do the same with baseball's society, and deserves the boos and lost records.
