Yes, I chose the words to my title for a distinct reason. My question is serious. Please take a moment to really try and think your answer OBJECTIVELY before answering....

I read a week or two ago how our new QB coach (and offensive assistant) from the Panthers, Musgrave, spent some time interviewing Clinton Portis' O-line (?) coach, Gibbs, from the Bronco's. He apparantly got detailed info regarding the blocking scheme they used which propelled Portis to consecutive 1500 yard seasons.....

However, if memory serves me correctly, there are many here who take umbrage with the lesser Gibbs blocking schemes. "Chop Blocks" is what I believe they were called, which are low blocks that have a propensity to seriously injure an opponents legs (knees).

My question is:

How many of us will be 'accepting' if the Joe Gibbs-led Redskins O-Line adopts this strategy in order to open big holes for Portis this season?

:fortune:

Will we all go from people who are critical of this "dirty" style of play to people who defend it because it is still legal by the book?

And to take it a step further, how would we all have felt if it was our own Sean Taylor who was making a name for himself with the "Horse Collar" tackle last year... while it was still legal

I have to be totally honest with all of you. I'm not sure how I would feel. I am really, REALLY trying to tell myself that I would be disappointed/unhappy with the Almighty Joes (Gibbs & Bugel) if they chose to adapt this strategy....

BUT......

IF I saw it paying dividends and Portis was breaking out......

I don't know, man..... I really don't know

Interesting question. I don't think that you will see any "chop blocking" from us. "The joes" are into physically beating your opponent, not using questionable tecniques to make up for not being as physical. But if we did I would also struggle with it. However we could learn from the afore mentioned Broncos. How do their fans feel about it? I've never heard anything about their fans being uncomforatable with any of it, and I think that the same would be the case for most fans here as well.

I wouldnt like it.

2nd, I think the new rule about horse collaring is stupid.

I understand the facemask. Your head is attached.

I could understand no horse collar body slamming where you pull someone backward and slam thier head into the ground.

But just not being able to grab the pads at all. I dont agree. The pads are part of the uniform that part of the body.

They still let you grab the jersy. I guess you'll see more tear ways this year.

Like they said last game. This a very big athletic dudes. You grab anything you can or the are going to run away from you.
