LWC
If the Skins are indeed going to be playoff contenders, the first couple of games are going to big and can help gain some momentum. We know the Bears are going to be hurting on offense. Hutchinson had a horrible game this past weekend. Benson is still unsigned, and there are no signs that a deal will get done soon. At this point, it looks like Thomas Jones will be the man for week 1. Contain him, and limit the big plays and I really like our chances. I know the Bears have a solid D, but if we avoid "beating ourselves", you gotta like our chances in week 1.

dreamshatterer
If we can go 2-0 into our bye week, that would be HUGE!!! Especially if we beat Dallas on the night they induct the 3 main Super Bowl players of the 90's into thier ring of fame (Aikman, Smith, Irvin). _____ Dallas!!!!!! TheLongshot
I think that it is critical to beat teams that we should beat. With Grossman out, we have no excuses to not beat the Bears. I'm not going to get down if we have a strong game against the 'Boys and still lose. It is more how we play early, rather than the wins and losses I'm going to be looking at. rdsknbill
That means nothing what we did in the past. It is important to beat Dallas and get that monkey off our backs. That could be a tall order considering that the game against Dallas is the home opener on Monday night for the Pukes. The Skins better win because I'll be there. :dallasuck :dallasuck
TD_washingtonredskins
I'm not a very firm believer that any game is more important than any others. Teams start slow and make a push all the time. Recently, we've started out fine and then hit a wall. I'd rather struggle early and gel late, but I obviously wouldn't complain about a 2-0 start. We have plenty of other harder teams to worry about.

redman
Strong starts are nice, however I'll know that we truly have a "Joe Gibbs team" if we go something like 4-2 or 5-1 to finish the season. Gibbs used to dominate December. We did finish 3-2 last year now that I think of it . . .

redman
Right. And looking over his history, it wouldn't shock me if we lost a couple early games either... I just went back and checked Gibbs' career record over the last four games of the season. It's 38-14, which is a .731 winning percentage that is greater than his .650 regular season winning percentage. And I wasn't keeping strict track of this, but I believe he's only had one losing record during that time, in 1988 when he went 1-3.
G-Prime
Not only do we need to beat dallas, we need to kill them, bury them.. Make an example out of them if we can.. I'm talking 45-10 ish type score..
Taylor 36
I think it is really foolish for anyone to under-estimate the Bears. They are banged up, but have shown promise in the preseason. Orton looks terrific. Now, do I think we can beat them, of course. But, we have all seen it happen many times before when the easy "Ws" go down in the "L" column. We definitely need to have a full on riotous home crowd on September 11, with no booing of Ramsey. (We are starting to act like Iggles fans. It is pathetic.) NOw, MNF against Dallas is huge, of course. The Redskins MUST win division games this season. We need to help Bledsoe realize it is time to start riding the pine or just retire. And, damn it, I want Gibbs to have himself a huge Tuna steak that night. I'm sick of the Cowboys, their fans, and that fata$$ coach of theirs. zoony
The Bears game is a trap game if I ever saw one... We can beat them, of course... and we should beat them. But everyone looking to Dallas makes me nervous
Neophyte
I don't think anyone is underrating them. We are all just aware that most teams run pretty plan gameplans in the preseason and do not do a lot of specific gameplanning for the actual oppenent. I don't see any QB as inexperienced as either Hutchinson or Orten, no matter how good they look in the preseason, having much of a chance to figure out Williams defense. I also don't expect the Bears to be able to really run on Williams defense as making teams one dimensional was his strength last year and once you take the run away I can't see either of the Bears QB's really beating us. That is a realistic view based on the idea that everyone shows up to play on our side of the ball. If they don't do that, it matters not who the oppenent is. Rawdawg
I live in Chicago now, so I get to see a lot of the Bears in preseason and training camp and stuff. I can't stand the Bears, I bleed burgandy and gold, but the Bears D is TOUGH this year. They get such a tremendous puch with there D line that the backers just start flying around making plays. The D is playing the preseason like it did a couples years back when they went a lucky a$$ 13-3 (they should have been about 11-5). If the skins O-line plays well...and Ramsey stays compsed, then we should win. However, it's the dumb mistakes and selfish play that have ruined the redskins over the past five years. Two picks by Ramsey and we are done. The Bears D could probably score more points than the Bears O in that game. I just hope that Clinton does his thing against them like he did last year. I think he ran for 150 against them or something like that. The Bears are not to be taken lightly. 2-0 to start would be great though. I am more worried about the Bears than I am the cowboys though. :logo: :logo: :logo:

CapitalObsession
I totally agree with the fact that a 2 - 0 start would be just the right recipe for Ramseys confidence. Thats all he needs is to feel comfortable in the pocket and we have a chance to make a huge statement this year. The Bears should be a given and Dallas is Dallas, they will torment us no matter what the situation, its all mental with them. If Ramsey puts on a show for Monday night football and proves himself to the entire nation, his confidence will bring us to the next level..... However, if we puke up an ugle 0 -2 start, then I will be very worried.
RedskinsNation
Im honestly already nervous about that Dallas game. I have conceded the Bears game as a Redskins win...but then Im left almost ready to concede the cowyucks game as a Redskins loss. For me im already looking to that MNF game. The Bears game is week 1 but Im already dreading the feeling of sickness that has been the Cowboyhangover for the past few years. Losing to the Cowboys the past few years just makes me so Angry...I cant even explain it. Losing to the Eagles is one thing because they have a good team...losing to the Giants doesnt sting me because I dont hate them w/all my heart....but losing to the Cowboys and hearing about the X amount of losses to them in a row just infuriates me. LWC
Looking at the schedule, I feel the 1st half is more "friendly" in terms of competition. We get the Bears and 49ers. We don't play Philly until week 9. If we start 2-0, I'm thinking great start, playoffs are still a good possibility. If we start 1-1, I'm thinking OK, we've got take care of business against Seattle. If we start 0-2, I'm thinking, man.. I'm tired of reading posts about Brunell should be the starter and Lenny P laughing at us again.
