Pete
Over time, I have come to find that a young quarterback is very similar to a person new to riding a motorcycle. It’s all about limitations. Limitations aren’t written in stone, and can be overcome in time. The important part is knowing your limitations at the present time, working within them, and striving to overcome them. As with riding, some times limitations are pushed, and it can kill you. We see this with young QB’s, trying to force throws into coverage, getting picked, and killing a drive. Ego is often part of the reason this happens to riders and QB’s alike. Lack of focus on prior training is a bigger part. The important part is to get back up and move in the right direction, learning from the mistake. As with riders, some QB’s do overcome their mistakes, while others don’t. It’s a learning process, and doesn’t happen over night. I think I’ve seen enough of Ramsey to say he’s learning his limitations, and has improved working within them. It’s evident that the coaching staff are working on overcoming his weaker areas of play. The focus of working on specific routs in the past two games shows this. Limitations have a lot to do with trust. A rider has to trust his bikes ability to hold in a corner, and a QB has to trust his line to give him the protection to set up and throw. This by far is key to Ramsey playing well. This season will be his first with an O line that can do what’s needed, and his confidence in the line is getting stronger as seen in the game against Cincy. The realization that they can protect him is sinking in a little more each time he goes under center. By the time our season opener comes round, people will be amazed in how well Ramsey will run the O for us, not having to worry about getting pummeled every time he gets the ball in his hands. With full trust in the O line, he can relax and play his game.
