HeHateMe
Not looking good for Cundiff. Bad timing could end his career as a Cowboy. http://www.cowboysplus.com/topstorync/stories/082205cpcowdate.96f4ca7f.html Cowboys could opt to release Cundiff 02:58 PM CDT on Sunday, August 21, 2005 By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News OXNARD, Calif. - Billy Cundiff may have played his final game for the Cowboys. Cundiff suffered a hip flexor in Saturday's practice and could miss three to four weeks, according to coach Bill Parcells, jeopardizing his spot on the 53-man roster. Because the injury could linger into the season, Parcells does not believe he can carry an extra kicker even for a couple of weeks. "That puts us in a little dilemma at that position now," Parcells said, "so we'll have to see what we have to do about that." The Cowboys had a similar circumstance last year when kicker Matt Bryant suffered a hamstring injury and was released. The Cowboys hoped to bring him back but Bryant signed with Miami. Jose Cortez, who was signed Aug. 6, will handle the kicking duties Monday against Seattle and for the rest of training camp. Parcells said the team will work out some kickers when the team returns to Dallas, but said he expects some veterans to be available when cuts are made around the league. Cundiff said he was extremely disappointed about the injury. He missed what would have been a go-ahead 53-yard field goal last week at Arizona, but Parcells said he was doing fine in camp. Last year, Cundiff connected on 20 of 26 field goals. Cortez made a 33-yard field goal in the preseason opener at Arizona and Parcells said he has improved since he arrived in Oxnard. Cortez has not kicked a field goal in a regular-season game since 2002 when he was with Washington. He spent parts of the previous two years as Minnesota's kickoff specialist. For his career, Cortez has connected on 41 of 57 field goals, including a career-long 52-yarder with San Francisco in 2001. With the Niners, he was coached by Cowboys special teams coach Bruce DeHaven. Briefly ... The Cowboys officially closed training camp Sunday and will likely return to Oxnard next summer for training camp, but their long-term plans remain up in the air. ... The Cowboys went through an hour-long walk-through Sunday morning without helmets before flying to Seattle. ... Final attendance for the three-week stay in Oxnard was 40,200. txkid
Cortez is terrible and would be a huge downgrade for them. They might actually lose to the Skins once this season.
HeHateMe
Cortez is terrible and would be a huge downgrade for them. They might actually lose to the Skins once this season. So far so good. Perfect in the preseason with hits from 46, 47, and 33 vs. Seattle.

TheSteve
So far so good. Perfect in the preseason with hits from 46, 47, and 33 vs. Seattle. He was good at first in no pressure situations for the 'Skins too, but good luck starting a kicking carousel.

redman
Take it from 'Skins fans, an unsettled kicking situation is not any fun going into a season, especially when your offense is not dominant. I can easily see Dallas in a lot of 17-14 ballgames where the kicker is the deciding factor. This could be painful.
