portis&taylor
I know we have our salary cap to worry about but what if we get this guy could you imagine our offense. I say if he becomes a free agent we need to get him and some else needs to leave like umm brunell.
Mr. S
Gates saved some of my fantasy football teams last season, and he was a beast. However, it was only one season, who knows how he'll do this year wherever he is. We dont have the space for him really, and our next 2 years are rather tight. Also, we cant just release Brunell that easily either. Im hoping Royal can be our catching TE that we need.
da#1skinsfan
Hes not going anywhere. He will re-redefine the position of TE. Dont even give it a second thought.
Brave
Hes not going anywhere. He will re-redefine the position of TE. Dont even give it a second thought. The current proto-type TE has been established by Gonzalez. Ex-basketball player. Almost a hybrid TE/WR. Huge weapon on offense. And Gonzalez has been doing it consistently for 8 years now. Gates had a great year last year and should be considered one of the top 3 TEs going into this year, but I'm not sure he's doing anything new here. And we don't have one to trade. So in the very unlikely event that he did get dealt, we wouldn't be considered.

TheREALJBird
that would be awesome if we got him, but chances of that happening are less than likely
Rypien 91
I would love to have him, but it will never happen.
OrangeSkin
Here's what I don't get. If Gates is holding out anyway, how is a suspension going to hurt him? It's like telling somebody who quit their job that they're fired.
Streater101
No way we even sniff Gates for reasons to numerous to list.
ZoEd
Don't know about Gates but we do need a receiving TE. I was really hoping we would take Heath Miller in the draft for that reason. (Hope Campbell works out) If we had a TE who could catch it sure would open up the running game and increase our red zone chances.
The X-Factor
Gates is a hell of player, but I just don't like tying up that much money to the TE position. That is one of the positions where you should have the least money invested. Plus we having a bigger need at DE, a position that certainly requires a bit of cap room. e16bball
If I'm not mistaken, I do believe the TE in our offense is basically an extra tackle who happens to be eligible for passes but goes out for them somewhat rarely. Gates is not a good blocker but is a receiving specialist. It doesn't seem like a good fit to me, especially for the money he commands, but who knows? Hence me saying he will "RE-REDEFINE" the position. Gates had one of Gonzales best years in his SECOND year. Just think what this guy can do with at least one receiver that can stretch the field. He'll torch LBs and run over safetys all day long. As athletic as Gonzales is, I see more from Gates. I dont doubt what Tony Gonzales has done, and I am well aware of Gates similarities. I just think Gates will at least see that level of accomplishment in his career.
Taylor 36
We don't need Gates. We're fine at TE. We may not have all the "flash" of a Tony Gonzalez, but we are good. And we don't want to throw Brunnel away right now. First of all, he has really shown his arm is back this preseason. Second, he has been making some excellent decisions with the ball. If something happens with Ramsey, MB may just be the saving grace of this season.

Yes but if you line a guy up on the line that can block and actually catch, a linebacker can't ignore him if he goes out as a decoy. This means one less Defensive player paying attention to Portis on his way to 1500yds this season. If he ignores the TE then we burn him across the middle; a vicious circle I would be more than happy to be caught up in.
