Darnerian McCant's Post-Game Interview

I wish I had your problems :)

Its possible we may do a live-game blog kind of a thing, where we give you updates as the game progresses, we're just not sure yet. But if you all have ideas on what you'd most like to see and hear, let us know. One thing we WILL be asking you all is WHO do you most want to hear from in post-game interviews from the locker room.

This was a great introduction in things to come this season. It will be even better once more Fans (with the merger) will have access.

Live-game blogs will be tough process I'm sure... even with a blackberry. It would be tough to write something that didn't sound like a game thread in the middle of all of that action. I would suggest a live blog thread stickied seperate from the regular game one.

Are there limits to what you can write? For example, say Gibbs launches a Flandersesque tirade at Nemo for fumbling and you guys catch it all...can you post that?

The post game will be really encouraging...especially once you guys start developing some relationships in there. The possibilties are endless. Maybe a post-game question thread...if there were a way to divide a thread into players and have fans post questions under each player, that way there's not too much pressure to get to one individual guy?

Good luck guys!

Labor of Love? :D

But if you all have ideas on what you'd most like to see and hear, let us know. One thing we WILL be asking you all is WHO do you most want to hear from in post-game interviews from the locker room. We obviously can't make guarantees, but we'd certainly go out of our way to talk to the guys you all are most interested in (we may even solicit questions during the game from you guys, and ask those if its possible).

There are a lot of possibilities.

Coolest thing here is, fans have never been this close to their team, and we're only getting started. Props to the Redskins for caring enough about their fanbase to give us this opportunity

:notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :logo:

The best part of all this is that we will be getting reports from people who actually care about the Skins, not some ding-a-ling who moved here from Chicago (*cough* Wilbon *cough*) giving what he considers an unbiased commentary simply for the money.

Darnerian McCant's Post-Game Interview

I've summarized the write-up for info that is not readily apparent by watching the game on TV or watching the post-game interviews. Hopefully this write-up is a part of the process of learning how to best use true fun access, because I'm a little disappointed in this write up.

In reading the write-up I found myself waiting for some nuggets that one could only get by being on the sideline, such as which players are the vocal leaders? Who did the players think was having a strong game? What, in general, could you hear the coaches saying to the players and to each other?

Instead I thought most of the write-up was dedicated to info and analysis that could have been made from watching the game on TV, watching the post-game, or looking at the stats. Direct fan access is great, but I'd like to see it used more as a complement to existing media, from which fans can conduct their own analysis, instead of a replacement which likely mirrors what many fans are already thinking.

I hope this constructive criticism can be used to better the exclusive coverage that ES has been granted.

Bob,

I think that's top notch and EXACTLY what we're looking for. We do need to start writing some slice of life experiences from the sidelines when we're there. Get some unique interviews based on fan requests and the like.

We are very new at this and it's coming together in very short order. We have no format for this. So, the best we have is to say we will try, once things are more settled for us, to take specific fan ideas for such coverage in as many cases as possible.

Once we get our feet under us we hope to put threads up here asking for input and then sending it to the guys we have at the game to go get that specific information as possible. We're not there yet. We probably won't be perfectly there at any point in the near future.

We're just trying to figure out how to do what we can now do in ways you guys will appreciate, if we can ever even get to that :).

A LOT of our focus for now, early on, is to build up an archive of photos we can use for the site as we go forward. We have like 800 photos from the game we will be able to use to start our archive for avatars or for stories in the future, or whatever.

This was direction we set internally, during the preseason, to start to get some things built up so we're better prepared for the regular season. So, getting a feel for things while still adding things to the archives is what we're hoping to do.

Bob - My understanding is the team bench runs from the 27 yard line to the 27 yard line. Per NFL rules only the team is allowed there. No media, no fans. Therefore I wouldn't expect to hear any nuggets from the sideline. Even at mini-camp, we weren't allowed full field access. We had roughly 30 yards on the sideline corner & the endzone.

This is going to be a learning expierance for both the members and the mods. We need to understand that this is going to get better over time and that they need our input but we need to respect their judgement on what they can do.

I think all of you are doing an amazing job. Tarhog great first post from sidline access. I would have most likely been speechless and could not have posted anything. All of you are working very hard on this and we are all learning as we go.

Thank you for your dedication to us members!

You know what? You'd think, considering the way many view Mr. Snyder and the Redskin's front office, that we'd have been through 're-training classes', a 'Redskin's Etiquette' course, and been subjected to urinalysis, psychological profiling, and polygraph exams before being allowed entrance to the inner Redskins sanctum.

Didn't happen.

They trust us to be fans, and not to embarass the organization. We think we can do both! So its not about what they've told us - theres a general restriction for all media not to snap photo's directly behind the benches, but other than that, we were given free reign. If I saw something like that, I'd keep it to myself, not because I'd been given any instructions, but because its the right thing to do. The Redskins staff is incredibly open and helpful.

Interesting question though :)

I really like your 'post-game question thread' idea. Keep them coming!

Thats fair enough Bob - truth is, this first visit my focus was on making sure we got where we needed to be, learned 'the rules' for media access, got some nice pics (which I'm about to post), and got the lay of the land. We accomplished those things.

Couple points in response to your post. We're NOT reporters. Thats not the point of this increased access. I'm not a football coach, offensive genius, or Mel Kiper, nor are most of my peers. We'll tell you our general impressions, but frankly, they're no more valid than what (as you correctly pointed out) you might figure out on your own watching from the stands or at home. We didn't post several items (such as Gibbs and Ramsey's post-game comments) because those can be found as easily on Redskins.com (so we've already determined theres no point in being redundant). And the McCants interview is an indication we'll be looking for content that you wouldn't ordinarily get from major outlets. Interviews with lesser known players for example.

We have a lot of ideas, and I appreciate the honesty. I think your expectations may just be a little ahead of what we could produce in our first visit behind the scenes.

Great job Tarhog...must have been the thrill of a lifetime...and it was only a preseason game. I can't imagine what it would be like to be on the sidelines for Redskins-Cowboys :)

Nice pics as well. ( I'm sure you will be posting the cheerleaders later :)) Just kidding...

Again Tarhog, I'm still all kinds of green with envy. Nice write up and great pics. It's one thing to get a view from fans who where there at seat 4 whatever, but it's another to get it from the sidelines. This may be exactly what many here want. In the sidelines, you can get a feel for what's up with the team and individual players as well. All from a fellow fan's perspective. I can get other things from Redskins.com and other media outlets, but as a fellow fan, I guess I'm living somewhat vicariously through you, ( and others in the future), as you go through the process of getting into the game and then the game itself. Good to "hear" what a fello fan sees and then as a result feels when there.

And about that zip thing and cheerleaders. ;)

Cheerleaders are at the bottom of the photo threads. Let me just say, and I abandon any hope of professionalism here, that those girls are beyond beautiful. From a distance they are lovely. From 5 feet away - palpitations baby. Awe-inspiring.

And Ax and Pete - you guys are in rare rare form

Very nice work.

The pictures and write up took me places I simply could not go before. The intimacy of the "fan persepctive" was worth the effort guys!

I think in the long run most will enjoy the benefit of access enriching our overall experience.

Thank you.

Weekly raffles and contests to join you? :silly: :excited:

No, we won't have weekly raffles. We won't run contests here. However, as a staff, there are a lot of you we NOTICE from the things you do and say here. One day in the coming weeks, we're going to quietly start tapping on shoulders via PM to see if some people want to go places with us. And when that happens, they can tell about it.

Call it a reward for contributing to the forum with your posts and your knowledge or whatever. Good members are going to be rewarded. That MAY even mean guys like WB, HHM and JB :).
