Joe Sick Posted August 20, 2005 Share Posted August 20, 2005 It seems several times the Bengals QB had all day to throw. When this happened, guys looked wide open. Is this a case of: Not running our real defense, especially with the second team. or Are we still lacking that pass rush threat? It seemed the 1st team D used the blitzes well, missing a couple of opportunities (Rogers' non-sack comes to mind). They looked good. Marcus W. was coming hard off the end. I can't remember any of the 2nd team CBs coming off the edge. Wynn and Daniels have never shown much as real pass rushers, more as run stoppers. Don't remember Griffin making much impact at all. Not even our pass rush guys, like Evans or Clemons, seemed to be bringing it. Are we going to have to blitz to bring the pressure? Is this a cause for worry? Will Arrington help? Are we running our plain jane D to evaluate players one-on-one? (Man, I have a lot of questions... ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ignatius J. Posted August 20, 2005 Share Posted August 20, 2005 I think we don't have the kind of team that gets sacks with our front four. We just don't have those types of players. But that doesn't mean our pass rush isn't getting the job done. Remember roger's interception? that was directly caused by phillip daniels grabbing a hold of palmer's jersey. all day we had people in the QB's face, forcing him to rush throws, and just plain be uncomfortable. Our defense is designed to have a line that causes disruptions while occupying blockers. You remember how washington, holdman, and marshall were in on every play? that's because the guys on the edge were taking away the opposing offense's ability to get in the way of our linebackers. Our DE's seem to control the edge while our tackles get upfield. It doesn't result in big sack numbers, but it sure seems to get the job done. jwsleep Posted August 20, 2005 Share Posted August 20, 2005 DId they have all day against the first-stringers? I didn't think so...but I was listening on the radio. After the second stringers came in, we had no rush, and didn't bring much in the blitz. I think Williams was evaluating players from that point on. Lavar will help.
