"I never knowingly took steroids"

first Raffy's lying ass, then this chump from the Mariners, Ryan Franklin. They've both used this excuse. Where does this rank in your all time excuse list?

for me, right near the top. I don't buy this crap, especially from Raffy's ***** ass.

Two things, what world class athlete doesn't know whats getting put into their bodies?

Second, in response to Raffy's dumbass comments about "why would I risk this, the year that I was to get 3,000 hits, i have everything to lose..." well why the hell wouldn't you become even MORE careful after testifying before congress you moron? It's kind of like after you get a speeding ticket and drive around for a few weeks after, doing the speed limit cause you're paranoid...well wouldn't you be a bit more careful with whatever your trainer was supposedly giving you? wouldn't it be in the back of your mind, "hey, canseco named me in his book, i had to testify, i'm a target, i need to be extra careful" what a dumbass, i'm so pissed right now.

and now it comes to light that the roids that were found in palmeiro were some heavy duty ****, the same roids that were in ben johnson in the olympics back in 88.

I really am starting to become more jaded with athletes after the past couple of days. I hate feeling that way because Raffy was one of the guys I really liked, always thought he was a class act. Now after all this not only do I think he's a liar, but he's also insulting the publics intelligence with his bull**** lie, the same that sheffield used and this other punk is using.

Sorry, it's 2 am, I had to vent. feel free to opine.

if Raffy had tested positive for some borderline substance I might actually lean towards believing him...

"Source: Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol

NEW YORK -- Rafael Palmeiro's positive steroid test was for stanozolol, a powerful anabolic steroid that is not available in dietary supplements, according to a newspaper report.

The New York Times, citing a person in baseball with direct knowledge of the sport's drug-testing program, reported on its Web site Tuesday that Palmeiro tested positive for the drug known by the brand name Winstrol, most notably linked to the Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson of Canada.

The person who said that Palmeiro tested positive for stanozolol did not want to be identified because the testing policy prohibits anyone in baseball from disclosing information about test results without authorization, the Times said.

The Baltimore Orioles first baseman was suspended by Major League Baseball for 10 days on Monday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. The highest profiled player to be punished so far, Palmeiro testified before Congress in March that he "never used steroids."

The test was taken some weeks after Palmeiro testified before Congress in March, meaning he is probably not at risk for perjury, the Times reported, citing a committee staff member who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity because official statements are supposed to come from members of Congress.

The Baltimore Sun reported on its Web site Tuesday night that Palmeiro tested positive in May and chased his 3,000th hit with the knowledge that he had failed a drug test. Palmeiro appealed the ruling in secret arbitration proceedings in June, a source told the Sun.

The Sun also said that Congress is looking more closely into the chronology of Palmeiro's case and is poised to call on baseball to reveal more details: when his drug test was conducted, analyzed and disclosed to the player and the team. Some members also want officials to reveal what Palmeiro tested positive for.

The House Government Reform Committee was drafting a tentative information request Tuesday, the Sun said.

Palmeiro didn't deny turning in a positive test, but was adamant it was an accident.

Johnson was stripped of his 100-meter gold medal in 1988 after testing positive for stanozolol.

"It's a mildly strong to strong steroid," Dr. Gary Wadler, a professor at New York University and an expert in sports doping, told the Times. "Potent is the word I would use."

Palmeiro was the seventh player to fall under baseball's new, tougher steroids policy; Seattle Mariners right-hander Ryan Franklin became the eighth when he was also suspended 10 days for a violation Tuesday. Baseball does not release what type of drug a player has tested positive for, and so far none of the eight have spoken openly about details of their violations."

Raffy cmon man who are you trying to fool.

The "I have no idea how it got in my system" excuse is so lame. That's all we are going to hear because so many people have given Bonds a pass on the sterioids. It seemed to work for him so that's what everyone is going to say.

That's just pitiful.

Palmiero (who I've always been a fan of) is worse than Pete Rose IMO. There's no way he should ever get into the hall of fame. I hope he's booed everytime he steps foot on the field when he comes back from his suspension.

Quite frankly, if players are stupid enough to take something without learning about it, blilndly 'trusting' whoever gave it to them, then they deserve to be suspended/ banned. These are 'highly trained' athletes who are 'supposedly' in tune with their finely tuned bodies. I have zero sympathy.

As for 'Raffy', well, he may have just gotten himself booted off of the Copperstown list.

Raffy is an idiot and keeping it a secret since May really ticks me off. He says that somehow without his knowledge a rather potent steriod entered his system while he was not doing well at the plate. Total BS!

I don't like how MLB handled this either. People in the front office of MLB knew about this in May and decided to keep it hidden. MLB knew about this when they took a full page out in USA Today celebrating Raffy's 3000th hit. MLB wanted the publicity for Raffy's hit record and for his subsequent steroid abuse.

*****WARNING!!! CONSPIRACY THEORY ALERT!!!*****

Stay with me now. I have no proof of any of this, but I overheard my friends neighbors dog tell this to the stray mutt that lives down by the highway overpass.

Raffy's wife, who is a babe I hear, pissed off because Raffy forgot to refill his Viagra prescription, began a secret affair with Jose Conseco, (sp) and in order to make the claims from his book seem more credible, agrees to spike Raffy's meals.

And there you have it.

PCS, look at this quote

"why would I risk this, the year that I was to get 3,000 hits, i have everything to lose..."

Because he is an egotistical moron. The Senate testimony is the one that really gets me. It just goes to show you, people who act strong in their convictions are hiding something behind their demeanor.

I actually bought his line of BS in 04', but not any more. He could have just retired in luxury, now his name will forever be linked with Canseco/Bonds/Balco & steroids. I have to say that he deserves it.

10 days is an insult to the fans of baseball and to the sport itself. You think Raffy would have lied to Congress and risked getting caught with steroids in his system if a 1st time offense meant getting banned for a year and an automatic lifetime exclusion from the Hall of Fame?

i agree the suspension should be longer but i don't agree with not letting him in the HOF

he got those numbers, and MANY of the guys in the HOF cheated, heck back in the 60's and 70's they would pass a bowl of amphetamines around before the games

no, they are very specific differences in the tests, heck they were able to pinpoint the actual steroid use, and it was a biggie that is not in any supplements

now i am not a chemist but did stay at the holiday inn last night :D

Yeah, you should hear the people hear in Baltimore. They are all in total denial. They actually believe Palmerio didn't know he was taking steriods. News coverage was big the first day it came out and now that local news hasn't commented on it lately. These peopl can never admit their home town heroes do anything wrong. I can't stand it.

We can admit that Dexter Manley was an idiot. Sean Taylor stupidly may go to jail over ATV's. These people will never admit wrong doing.......ever.

Most Balti-morons still do not believe that Edgar Allen Poe NEVER lived in Baltimore. He got drunk one night, on his way to New York, and died in the streets. He's only buried in Baltimore.

I could go on........it just burns me up that they can't admit wrong doings.

The last words that would ever be used to describe me are "science geek", but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night:D

Seriously, I was listening to sports radio on the way into work today and they did have an "expert" on and they asked him this question - except they said Viagra and any other drug in their question. The expert gave an emphatic "NO, not possible" response.

Take it for what it's worth...
