    The Bruce Allen/GM Thread

I hardly post on here and I KNOW this isn’t true. He constantly posts about having some sort of insider information or being a psuedopsychologist or knowing how billionaires function or whatever. Hahahahaha this is hilarious. Isn’t the entire point of a forum to have these discussions? “Don’t respond to me, I don’t like you, here’s a long response to you telling you why”. Again, I hardly post here but it doesn’t take a PHD to see why someone would find you hypocritical. This message board should be allowed a little derailment until things start happening again football wise. You guys need to relax—this debating amongst each other is just filling the time until we actually see what the Redskins decide to do. You can run and ban me for getting off topic or whatever, but if you really want open discussion amongst the board, allow it to be actually OPEN discussion. If posters don’t like each other then let them duke it out. If you really don’t want to debate with someone i’m sure there’s a way to just mute them and move on.

    2019 Comprehensive Draft Thread

Drafting Murray at 15 wouldn’t thrill me nor break me, but if we traded up to get him i’d probably take a deep look at my fandom and if it’s worth the stress.

I’d agree with this. A few months back I fought with someone here who made the comparison to Steinbrenner. Snyder will be a piece of human garbage no matter how good or bad the Redskins’ record is. I will never care for him or respect him as a person. That being said, I’d much rather despise him for just being a scumbag than also causing me sadness and pain on most Sundays, the occasional Monday, and a rare Thursday or two every fall/winter. Snyder isn’t the only asshole rich man in power, but he’s the only one who runs my favorite sports team into the ground time and time again that’s for sure.
  4. This would be some classic Redskins way of thinking though. “Well, they didn’t lose us any games, so we might as well stick with it.” The exact attitude that leads to complete stagnation year after year. We have been outstandingly average and outstandingly embarrassing, somehow simultaneously, which is really a hell of a feat when you think about it.
  5. Yeah other than Way’s bonkers season this year we haven’t made a noteworthy special teams play in half a decade. Actually I guess we ran a fake a few years ago in week 3 against NYG that ended up being big. But 2017 we had Crowder fumble multiple punts and this year I can’t remember one single play, good or bad, that our return team made.

The thing is, if Snyder has proven anything during his embarrassing reign as the NFL’s Modernday PT Barnum, it’s that he can’t win doing it his way. He has had no sustained success because “his way” (whatever that may be) only leads to failure. Or eventual failure. I get your hotel manager analogy, but you would assume at some point he’d make a move to assuage the fans like firing Allen, even if it’s only a publicity move and he keeps him on the payroll or something. Especially during a period like this where the fan frustration has made national news. This entire offseason has just been one big bummer. From watching both Philly and Dallas win a playoff game to seeing us publicly fumble the search for new coaches/handling of current coaches. I’m very much bracing myself for some big newsworthy move in a few months that I will no doubt talk myself into believing may actually work until it becomes clear we’ve once again guided ourself into quicksand.
  7. I know it’s a joke and all, but honestly in terms of recent history, coaches seem to have a lot of success in their PostSkins careers. It makes sense considering we love to waste talent.

Redskins receiving corp is beginning to shape up

This is by no means a guarantee. Didn’t Smith once go like 18 straight games without throwing a TD to a WR? And it’s not as if Doctson has been sniffing the end zone waiting for one to come. The fact of the matter is, this is a horrible situation in regards to evaluating his future role with our team, but if we can continue to win then I don’t really care if Doctson has 20 yards or 2000 yards.

But what if we were to win? Would you be all right with it then? I’m actually curious here—not being an ass. I agree that Bruce and Dan are both douchebags, and that we are not a well oiled machine. Really i’ve just been trying to argue that we are on our way to at least being an oiled machine. Which is more than we could say when Roy Helu was breaking receiving records and Reed Doughty was starting 16 games a season. Baby steps!!

Well at this point it’s just because of where we have been in the past, right? I mean, obviously it would be great to expect all good but after years and years of having the bad outweigh the good by a large amount, I understand it’s going to take some time to change that. If you think we can become the Patriots overnight (or over-offseason) then please show me that blueprint. Maybe it’s a bad, defeatist attitude here but the fact that the good outweighs the bad for the first time in probably my entire life is a bit encouraging. I’m sorry such a seasoned redskins veteran as yourself can’t see it that way—it must be a bit headache inducing to have such high expectations for a (at least in recent times) notoriously shoddy and disorganized franchise. Man this has got to be the most defeated point of view yet. And this isn’t totally true—the Browns didn’t luck into finally being a competent team, they bottomed out and hit the reset button tenfold. Actually this is just straight bull****. Most teams that actually get good, like legitimately good, don’t luck into it at all. They induce a full culture change and bring in the right guys both coaching and player wise. A bit like bringing in the most respected offensive and defensive line coaches, a defensive coordinator that has been a head coach, and a defensive backs coach who most of the league respects on every level. But, as long as Big Bad Bruce is looming over i guess we’ll just have to keep rubbing our rabbit’s foot won’t we? I actually think there’s no hypocrisy in your takes, but tons riddled throughout your book length posts otherwise. And i’ve pointed them out in almost every post so I don’t feel the need to do so again. But I had a great big laughing fit over you using Steinbrenner as an example, and then going on now to basically say that “as long as you win you can be a scumbag”, which means IF Snyder won you’d be fine with him continuing to be a human stain. Your stance on Allen, while a bit sad and bordering on obsessive and/or ridiculous, is pretty firm i’ll give you that. I would assume Dan’s arrogance has less to do with football and more to do with being an incredibly wealthy scumbag. A family member of mine tells a story of installing a speaker system in Snyder’s sisters’ house years before he ever bought the Skins, and said Snyder was the worst person he ever met. This is someone who ran Las Vegas and New Orleans restaurants for upwards of 15 years, so you can imagine the horrible and downright evil people he met there. I’m sure thousands of people have very similar stories. I highly doubt Snyder would gain any more arrogance, or seem any more justified, if we suddenly started winning. His history of greed, mistreatment of every human being he comes across, and just overall disgrace to good natured people everywhere is duly noted both anecdotally, like I have given, and in the media. Not to be a huge prick (well, maybe i am being a bit of a prick here but whatever) it says something about YOU that you could overlook all that if it meant winning. Even if we win 3 straight super bowls I wouldn’t consider Dan Snyder a remotely good person; he’d instead actually be like a Steinbrenner/Jerry Jones and just be added to the long list of rich assholes who got vindicated through a couple of sports wins. I got off track but whatever. If we win tonight against the saints Ill have to remind myself that it’s not because of Snyder or Bruce Allen or Gruden or Smith but instead, because like most franchises eventually do, we finally got lucky.

I agree that Dan and Bruce are not a winning combo and are unlikable. But i also think the good here could outweigh the bad, and that Bruce’s role isn’t enough to totally destroy us. But it’s strange because i’m generally a more pessimistic fan...somewhere along the lines here i’ve inherently transformed into a Bruce fanboy and I don’t understand why other than reading so much pessimism here that i now understand why our stadium is empty on opening day and silent with our seasons on the line. I mean at some point I wonder if people here wouldn’t rather have us lose just to say I told you so. And its not just SIPor you or whoever...it’s a general overall sickness amongst our fans. In a thread about Doctson getting hurt earlier a guy literally typed “i hope he does” in reference to him going on IR, and then told me he doesn’t wish for players to get hurt. And my annoyance at SIPs hypocrisy is noted ad nauseam above so i won’t repeat it. So maybe my literacy is shot or something but it’s starting to feel like the theater of the absurd.

    The Bruce Allen/GM Thread

Somehow Ive been mixed up here in defending Bruce, which is almost never the case, and i should be completely transparent here in that I am no fan of Bruce Allen, by any stretch. I don’t even think Bruce is a large part of why our drafts have been better. And obviously being better than Cerrato at anything is hardly a compliment. But I do think it’s a bit absurd to talk about Allen like he’s destroying this franchise, as I’ve said before. And if he is this Machiavellian figure that you love to paint him as then he isn’t a very successful one is he? I mean in his time here he’s done nothing but get tormented by the media, bad press, and apparently all but demoted to New Stadium Guy. If he is this evil genius then we need to pull back on the ‘genius’ here because unless this was all part of some master plan to tarnish his reputation. In which case then he deserves all the credit and is a mastermind. All of this is a roundabout way of saying that I’m not here to tell you why bruce allen is a good guy or good at his job or anything good. Im not even here to ask you how you could make a huge post telling me the media doesn’t play a role in your perception of these people but then make numerous posts still discussing how these people look in interviews or whatever. That’s neither here nor there. Im actually glad to read that winning the super bowl under Allen would force you to change your opinion on him, that at least proves you aren’t to the point of no return here. I do, however, feel the need to point out that you said you want ‘good people’ running the team and then you say you’d be happy if Snyder turned out like George Steinbrenner. This actually is pretty symbolic of your posting as a whole, as it tends to be often hypocritical to the point of comedy. I mean, come on...Steinbrenner was a scumbag, and pretty much the perfect representation of the things you seem to dislike about Bruce and Dan, through and through from the day he was born until the day he croaked. But he won, so people stopped giving a ****, and yeah the same thing WOULD happen with Snyder if we ever started winning. So it seems like you really would be able to overlook personal qualms as long as winning is involved, which is fine, but you continue attempting to construe your words in ways which make it seem like everyone is coming at you inaccurately and not understanding your posts, which is just not the case at all.

Its not that I don’t understand your point, or where you’re coming from, it’s just that hoping a guy who’s inability to stay healthy has hampered his development goes on injured reserve seems...counterproductive to hoping for our success? I hope Doctson’s value rises to the point of where we can’t afford him. At least that means he’s produced to some extent. Despite how bad Doctson has been, shouldn’t we trust our coaching staff that if he’s still playing over Mo Harris & the other unproven WRs that it’s because he might just be more talented?

Look, I don’t want to keep you from your ever important work deadlines, but I just have one quick hypothetical to run by you here. I absolutely get your frustration and dislike for Vruce, and it even takes a lot to admit you’re so far beyond the pale that a couple random words from some asshole anonymous (me) aren’t going to change your opinion. That’s fine. But let’s just say for a second we succeed this year and win the division (not outrageous, considering the current state of the NFC East), for the 2nd time in 4 years. And maybe we even win a playoff game (a little outrageous, but hey these things do happen). Or let’s get really crazy and say we make it to the NFC Championship game (OUTRAGEOUS!!!) and lose (back to reality), but in a respectable manner, and we go into next season with actual hope for once. If all those things were to magically fall into place, with Bruce Almighty still working his current job (whatever the hell it may be), would you still be leading the mob against him? Or at the very least claiming we had success despite him? Im asking only because i’m curious if you really think the problem with this team is Bruce Allen. Or if your problems with Bruce Allen are even redskins related. You’ve met him and genuinely dislike him as a person and wish nothing but bad fortune to him—but at what point did this stop becoming a football thing and start becoming a personal one? If there’s nothing I, or anyone else here, can say to even slightly change your mind, what, if anything, can Bruce do to accomplish that?
