I think some owners would love to cancel the season.  There are some owners who want the full impact of covid losses now and next year.  I read that could be a 70 million cap reduction for 2021.  That isn't happening. To many teams would have to pair their roster down.

I think training camp doesn't start on time.

No owner wants the season cancelled. They would have to give back some of the TV contract money because they are not fulfilling their end of the bargain.

No sir I won’t, I promise you that, my love of the Redskins died with the name. ..I have long said if they change the name I’m done and it’s unfortunately come to that...This whole situation of the PC culture is out of control...I hate it but I’m done 😢

I envy you. I wish I could leave. At this point I'm probably operating 3% on old memories and 97% on Stockholm syndrome.

  3. Complete rollercoaster of a day.

I went from horrified about the WP article to hopeful that Snyder might get forced out to completely deflated because with Snyder not being specifically named and liked among the other owners he's probably safe.

So, as a fan base we are more embarrassed than usual at the beginning of rebuild while still stuck with the person who's ruined this once proud franchise.

Just change the name to the Washinton Snyders already and be done with it.

  4. I'll continue to wear my gear, but like all the current stuff it will be eventually replaced with new branded merchandise in time.

Eventually I'll have all new stuff that is a bit more trendy.

Part of me is happy to see the Redskin chapter close. I was getting sick of having the same damn conversation over and over again especially while the team has been struggling. I'm excited for the new name/logo. I hope the marketing team goes full rebuild and get some creative designs.

How? He was a UDFA to the ‘Skins and Seattle didn’t sign him as a FA or draft him.

He didn't get extended, so if he leaves for a decent deal Seattle will get a comp pick. Chances are it will be higher than a 5th. Looking at next year's free agency period.

  6. This doesn't bode well for the Trent Williams impasse. It seems when a player doesn't want to be here coach is willing to ship them out for peanuts.

Just as an FYI, Dunbar will net more than a 5th in a comp pick this following season. This effectively will cost Seattle nothing for a young, good corner on a cheap one year deal.

    Witten...Retire.

Your crossing patterns were slower than Electric Football last year.

No sympathy if he starts whining on the CTE stuff in a few years.

I look at it a bit differently. This is a massive FU to the Cowboys. He is their all time receptions leader and was brought back largely because of his leadership. By all accounts he had a very frustrating season and for him to choose another team over the booth means something.

  8. Here's where I'm setting my expectations - We won't get too much back in return. I'm setting these expectations for the following reasons:

1 - Trent's been pretty dug in and it appears he's not giving the new regime much of a chance to change his mind. This just lowers the leverage the Redskins have in those negotiations.

    2 - Injury history.

3 - Ron Rivera's history - When a player is not a part of his team's future he seems willing to move on for little compensation. I'm thinking of the Josh Norman situation where he was under contract and when they realized Josh didn't want to be a Panther they moved on getting nothing in return (removed the franchise tag). That's not all on Rivera as he wasn't the GM, but I'm assuming he had a voice in that room.

4 - Whomever takes him on will be giving him a pretty big raise. That will cut into the draft pick compensation we can expect back.

5 - I want to have low expectations - This might be the most important of the bunch. If I'm preparing myself for a 5th that can conditionally become a 3rd and it turns out to be better, I'll be happy. For this team with a new coach, GM and rebuilding the roster I want to give them a long leash. If I expect a 1st and it ends up to be a 4th then I'll be pissed, meanwhile I don't know all the details and if that was the best offer available.

    FWIW

I'm not disagreeing with you, but for Trent, not including last season he's missed time in each of the last 5 seasons. Peters was similar around that age, but Whitworth really hasn't missed much time.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is Trent's 31, when you factor in his injuries which has happened from age 26, could be worse than Peters or Whitworth at that respective point in their career.

I'd add, being off a year doesn't mean he's 100% healthy. Sometimes when players take a year off their bodies have difficult time getting in 'football shape', meaning they can't take the pounding.

  10. I'm on the fence on how we should grow going forward. We have been freeing up a lot of cap space. We currently sit just over $60M, but there are other moves that can be made, specifically trading Trent, Kerrigan or maybe Dunbar. I'm not wanting to discuss each player, but more the overall strategy. Should we go into a mode where the sole focus is getting future assets (draft picks) and signing younger players?

Would it better if Rivera completely cleans house and start new with a combination of picks and cap space OR should he go into free agency, grab some vets that can help immediately and look to compete right out the gates?

I'm sort of leaning towards a full rebuild. Have a season of lowered expectations. Maybe make the entire season about developing our young QB. After this year we'll have a good idea what we can expect from Haskins and can ideally use those future assets to surround him with talent or go a different direction if needed.

Browns are said to be ready to move on from David Njoku.....Do we offer a 5th and see if they'll take it or is he overrated? He turns 24 this July so he is still young.

He was a first rounder (29th overall) and is still young and talented. You think a 5th is going to be good enough to get it done?

I'm ready for a boring, cheap TE. Give me a blocker who can run some routes, but their job is fairly defined.

  12. I think a couple years ago I wanted him to just retire. I'd find myself rooting for him in the jersey hoping he doesn't get hurt, knowing that he'll probably get hurt. Watching him come back was a great story, but after a while I knew the story always had a bad ending.

Sadly, I'm worried how things will look in 10-15 years. The damage he's sustained could put him at risk of being the next Junior Seau.  It's just sad.

Anyway, thanking Jordan for his effort and performances. That 2015 season was awesome. He was uncoverable and I think really helped Kirk develop. He'll be missed, but it got to a point where I was cringing every time he took a hit. That's no way to watch players you are rooting for.

  13. Without Allen at the table what's the hold up?

I mean Dunbar is a young, good player. Why not negotiate now where he's not a FA, so there's some leverage in extending him?

Anyway, it will be interesting how Rivera handles this. We all assume it would be better because Allen is gone, but we can't forget how things broke down between Rivera and Norman in Carolina. They pulled the franchise tag after free agency starts, which is typically a dirty move. Most teams spent their cash, so Norman had less suitors. Granted, in that situation there was one team left that was willing to overpay for his services...

  14. I'm happy he's gone, but I also remember how excited we all were when we signed him.

He's regressed every year. Hopefully we learn older corners typically don't do well. If we follow this up with sighing a 30 year old to a 4 year deal we'll be in facepalm town.

  15. The underlying problem with the premise is that we the fans think the product is failing us while the owner has been getting very wealthy off the same product.

All your suggestions involve Dan making less money. I'd ask, if he hasn't made any sacrafices and been rewarded why would be do so now? Is there a business case for him to forgo profits today for more in the future?

Kyle Smith was the Director of College Personnel at the time of this draft.  He was promoted to that position just after the 2017 draft so he's primarily responsible for last year, and the year before which was a pretty good draft.

    Okay. That's good to know.

I'm not too excited about the 2018 draft. Like the talent, but still waiting to see if it will translate to on field production. Guys like Guice have always bugged me because I'm so excited to see them on the field and with every injury I wonder what kind of player is left. I think Payne is a complete hit, but just for reference here's how the rest of the first round went:

There's players that I'd consider better and players I'd consider worse. Obviously seeing Jackson at 32 is a bit annoying, but I'm sure almost all the other 31 teams that drafted before are saying that.
