  1. Fun little exercise here from JP Finley.  I post this purely for entertainment. Not maknig any statement. It's two guys messing around. That's literally all it's worth. But again thoguht it was entertaining, especailly sicne they go past #2.

I will say, as they both did, I would be really surprised if the team doesn't move back into the 1st rd for a OT. But you never know.

  2.

A pretty reasoned take on the all QBs visiting at once and Top Golf thing. Not the biggest Criag Hoffman fan but he makes some good points here. Also, I am not sure why people completly ignore several key facts:

    1. Bill B. and other HCs/GMs/ FO personel have said this approach is not new. While it's not done by all teams all the time it has been used by teams before. He said in NE they used to bring in a bunch of players at once.

    2. Adam Peters made it clear while they had the group time, they also made sure each player had alone time with coaches. So the idea they had no time to meet wit the players individually is just not true.

Anyway, it's a more rational take than some.

    Thought this was interesting.

We all figured this was a better GM destination than most since we had a easy pathway to a new QB, but according to Peters he did not study QBs last year.

I can buy that he was not intimately going over QBs w/ a fine tooth comb (SF had no real reason to chase one) but I gotta assume a guy in his position would at least know this was a "QB strong" draft.

I think that knowledge helped lure him here, but it seems there was no specific guy that he came in with penciled in within his mind. Made the process even more open.

that’s not what he said.  He said he didn’t look into them the way he would have liked to if he knew he would have this opportunity.  I agree it’s likely he didn’t come in with a favorite but he absolutely had and has a plan. And he is executing that plan.

on another note I really like the group outing. You gain a lot of insight to peoples character when in group and social settings.  He is looking for talent but also character fits.  That includes how they interact with other players.

Not directed at you, more a general statement, it be over next Thursday and the hysteria can begin in earnest!   😂😂

When I traveled fro work I did the same. 17 days in China and did not check. I did the around the world tour gonigf to CHina first, then India, then back home. gone almost a month and did not check. Luggage gets lost, schedules change, timing between different types of transportation can be tight. Just learned it's best to go light when traveling for work. Did that for 20+ yrs.

I have to confess now that I am mostly traveling for fun I take what I want. 🙂

I'm not sure if no decision being made yet is a good thing or bad thing.

Even if they have made a decision, what does it benifit them to braodcast that decision? ALso, why make it now when the draft is next week?

No saying you, but the way it's being presented is that because they have not said who they are drafting at #2, they have no idea. Why not make sure you have turned every rock before making what all would agree will be the biggest decision to be made by this FO to date and for the near future? Also, people gloss over they did this in SF. There must be a reason. There has to be some value they get out of it or Adam would not have convinced everyone it was a good idea.

One thing coming out for me is Daniels camp is showing hard to get along with. That can start with the player. That is a pretty important data point. And despite that dumbass greenie's opinion, I love to take prospective employees into a social situation and see how they treat the service staff. Speaks volumes to thier character.

I am Ok trusting the room until they give me reason not to.

Yeah, it would be the biggest smokescreen ever and it might only work once. All this extra attention to Daniels and we draft Maye.  Future prospects might be a little Leary in the future of our intentions.

Not at all. Players know this is bull**** season. It's all smoke and miirrors. Anyone drawing anything out of this other than the team doing due diligence is not worth having. Too weak minded.

Not directed at you - just a starting point.

As for the way they picked Daniels up vs the others 🙂  That is really looking for any morsel of something to give people a clue. Also, the video above with DJ says they did this type of thing in SF also. Did anyone clock who was picked up by whom? Much ado about nothing fro me.

But agian, I have less of a care on who they choose. I think they are both phenmenol QBs. I also know that statistically speaking if Caleb Williams is successful, the chances of BOTH Maye and Daniels being busts is huge.

Although I think of some of your post is a little antagonistic, I think you touch on something to consider.

Is the new NFL approach to QBs to get early success under the first contract and perhaps be content the guy is not an all-time great? If that's the case, you really would want to compete right out of the game, see if you can win a SB (or at least get there) by year 4.  I disagree with this sort of logic but I have seen some indications and articles that talk about a new approach with QBs, especially since so many are coming in with the ability to extend or win games with their legs.  Yes, you'd prefer a 15 year guy who starts with ability to move and becomes progressively more of a surgeon as he ages and you win a SB or two.  But if you are uncertain about your shot at hitting on "legend" maybe you take a shot on a guy like RG3 (but assuming health) who you could build a scheme around for a few years while they either a) develop into a strong passer or b) you see that they're not it past a certain point and you can move on.

I understand what you are saying but I would phrase it slightly different - It's not that they plan to be OK with say an average starter and look for another one instead of sign them to a second much more costly contract..It's that those 15 yr franchise QBs are very hard to find. It's more a plan for the worst but hope for the best type thing. So you hopefully build your team with the idea you will get OK performance from your QB. But if you get that franchise guy you pay him and be happy.

There are no certainties in this entire evaluation process. The best of experts will tell you that. So many fans think because they said someone would bust and they did, it's just obvious and they are smarter than the guys being paid. Fact is 1st rd QBs historically fail at about a 78% clip. So they had a 4 or 5 chance in being right even if they knew nothing at all. So statistically speaking of the 5 to 6 QBs likely to be taken in this years 1st rd, only 1 will be a long term starter - not a long term franchise top 5 QB, just someone who can be that Kirk Cousins type QB - never going to carry the team but is compentent enough that if you give him decent support you can win a lot of games (this was NOT to start a Kirk Cousins discussion - just making a point and using him as an example).

New to the forum thanks for having me!

I’ve been following this thread all off season and all I can say is I agree with the camp that feels fortunate that we are picking 2 this year with a chance at a very good prospect no matter what.

I would be fine with Maye or Daniels. McCarthy would feel like a reach for me.

The crowd that feels like one is absolutely better than the other seems out of touch with reality in my honest opinion. They both do different things well. They both could be great. They both could bust. To read posts that one is absolutely a no brainer at 2 while the other would be “ok” at 3 but still not great is mind boggling to me. This is mostly in reference to taking Daniels at 2, but clearly there is a camp out there that really loves him as a prospect. Could they all be wrong? Absolutely, it’s definitely possible he flops and they are wrong and it would not be the first time they are. But there’s enough smoke out there that daniels is a legitimately good prospect worth taking at 2 that its hard for me to side with the group that thinks it’s an absolute malpractice to select him second over Maye.

I’d be happy with either and I love Maye and his potential. I love daniels too. I feel legitimately fortunate to have the choice between these two guys, they are way better prospects than Zach Wilson or Sam Darnold or Blake Bortles. Reading some of the takes in here feels a bit overkill when siding with one side over the other.

First, welcome to crazyland! 🙂  Very happy to have another nutcase like the rest of us!

You will find the term Extreme is very much earned here, hence the very strong opinions about which QB, especially when it comes to QBs! Long tradition of taking very strong polar opposite positions.

I am more in your camp though. I like Maye more but it's not lights out difference. They both do things well and they both have struggles. I was surprised at how strong Daniels legs are compared to some of the other more slight QBs. And he does know how to get down. The issue will be, will he adjust to how fast the defense is to get down fast enough early on. I think that's the problem with rookie QBs who like to run some. They misjudge how fast these DLine and LBs and anyone else can close. Howell is a good example. I think he always thought he had more time than he did and got popped a lot. Too bad, I really liked him.

But Daniels is not dumb. He has 5 yrs starting experience. And yes the last one was best, but you could see steady improvement, esepcially once he got to LSU. Was that just better players? Well if so, good news all the players in the NFL are better. Seriously, it's not like we have dregs and I expect them to add more weapons no matter which QB they take.

I do not see JJ as an option unless they trade down. That could make things interesting. Pick up an additional RD 1 pick and take JJ. The chances of that happening are slim and none, and slim probably just walked out the door. And that's a good thing. I prefer we stay put. But stranger things have happened. Peters is not afraid to go out on a limb. Plus he already has better relationships with the rest of the league. Who knows what sourcery he might cook up... 🙂

Again, I lean towards Maye but I am not losing my **** if they take Daniels. Have to trust the people in the room. Also, it's not like Adam Peters or any of those guys just dropped out of the sky and started looking at QBs. Several of them, especially Adam have likely been tracking these guys since middle school.

  9. Below is the final Arizona draft. Very happy with this draft. Trade out of #4 picking up a 3rd 1st rd pick. Then trade back up from #11 only using a 3rd and late 6th to end up with Malik Nabors. Really never say that happening. Was almost tempted to take Nabors for Atlanta at #8 but really they need help on the DLine so much more than a WR. But I had to think about it.

At Pick #23 we selected Chop Robinson, a very athletically elite edge rusher, another major need. With some coaching he could become a very disruptive force on the AZ dline. Our 2nd yr DC need some athletes and Chop fits that bill. I honestly really wanted to get a CB at #27. But the ones I wanted at #27 were off the board (looked I was going to drink some kool-aid until the pack stepped in.) I ended up gonig interior line. Our C is a free agent at the end of 2024. And even though the line play has been really good overall, to date the Cardinals have not signed him to any kind of extension meaning it's either find a replacement or potentially franchise tag him as even interior lineman are getting expenive. His backup is on a 1 yr deal and Jon Gaines drafted last yr in the 4th did not impress enough to not be concerned about depth here. With 3 1st rd picks I took the opportunity to go strength and look forward. Jackson Powers-Johnson   This says it all much better than I could :  “He’s tough, smart and strong. I just don’t overthink it with centers. When you get those elements, you usually have a starter.” - NFC scouting directo    r He will at the very least provide very strong depth. How many Cs did Washington start the last 2 yrs? And could end up replacing Hjalte after this year.

I got my secondary some help in the 2nd and 3rd rd with some nice players. Much of the rest was depth with what we felt was high potential. The sleeper in this draft could be WIll Shipley. After James Conner there is not much depth <400 yds and 2TD and less than 30 receptions. Will could push for RB 2 early and could play STs. We really like his potential.

Overall very happy with this draft.

Been lot's of fun again! I really enjoy this time of year! This group was amazing! We got done quickly! Very nice job of everyone keeping up and making thier picks in a timely manner.

Special thanks to @COWBOY-KILLA- for keeping up the OP and doing the dirty work to make this draft happen! And he did a great job drafting for the Commanders (wait I think he just drafted another Oline...)  @Chump Bailey deserves an honorable mention also for keeping this thing going!

I am constantly amazing at the depth of knowledge you all have. This year I had more guys I wanted taken from me. I see that as I sign I am catching up a little but man you all are just so well prepared! A job truly well done!!

Since we have some down time, lets look at a few meaningless statistics - like how many by position:

Overall we have selected from 82 universities and the Toronto Argonauts LOL

Here are the schools with at least 5 players chosen.

  14. Ok, been away a while, life and stuff. Let me get caught up:

Eclipse! SAo much fun. I remember as a kid seeing a full eclipse. We met a bunch of folks from our building on the roof and all watched together. What a cool expereince. Reminds you of how fragle we are. We think we contol everything in our lives when ion fact we control very little. Me and a couple of the neighbors had fun watching the other neighborws comeo uyt and immediatly look up. One of our neighbors kids thought it was lame until I gave them the glasses and they saw the cresent for the first time.

@WelshSkinsFan I mean this will all due respect - I hate you!! I thought for sure Matt Lee would fall through btu noooooo, SOmeone had to take him! Was gonig bto round out the Cardinals draft. BTW Good picK 🙂

Great pace! Into the 7th rd. We should be done before the weekend! Great job and as always I am so impressed with the details you guys get into! I had a lot more targts taken this year menaing either I am getting better or you are getting worse! I am counting on the first one.

    The Atlanta draft is complete:

We went into the draft neding DL, secondary and some more weaponms for our new QB one Kirk Cousins. More on that in a bit. We started off getng who we believe is the best edge rusher in the draft in Dallas Turner thanks tro 4 QBs gonig off the top. This sums him up better than I could:

“He’s such a talented athlete. One of the biggest mistakes people make is looking past athletic ability and focusing too much on technique or polish when they come out. Just look for ‘dudes’ and coach the rest of it.” - NFC executive

We then got another weapon for Kirk Cousins. Our #2 and #3 had 750 yds and 2TDs combined. Yes, we hope to better use Kyle Pitts and we have Drake London. But we needed a legit WR2. Roman WIlson fits that's bill. We then got a really solid CB in Kris Abraims-Draine in the 3rd. He should at least provide depth and CB3 and with some development be a full time starter. A sleeper i nthis draft is Marcus Harris, DL Auburn.

He may be a bit undesized but he plays with explosivness and quickness to overcome that size. If he can add a few pounds without his quickness suffering (and we think he can) he he should instantly push for rotational support but possible even get some starting reps.  Overall we are very pleased.

    Atlanta Draft:

Team (Total Pick Number) PLAYER SCHOOL YEAR POS
😎 Atlanta Falcons Dallas Turner Alabama Jr EDGE
    43) Atlanta Falcons Roman Wilson Michigan Sr WR
    74) Atlanta Falcons Kris Abrams-Draine Missouri Jr CB
    79) Atlanta Falcons (from Jacksonville) Ruke Orhorhoro Clemson Sr DT
    109) Atlanta Falcons Devontez Walker North Carolina Jr WR
    143) Atlanta Falcons Caedan Wallace Penn State Sr OL
    187) Atlanta Falcons Layden Robinson Texas A&M Sr IOL

We are on a 6 hour clock now correct?

8 Hours : - I think we talked one time about 6 hours but left it at 8.

    - For Round 1, the 12 hour rule stays in place.

     - For Round 2, this decreases by 2 hours to 10 hours.

     - Rounds 3 through 7 will decrease by a further two hours to give you 8 hours on the clock.
