  1. It's over - nurse your nostalgia as you will but it's over. Now another two syllable name like "Red Wolves" or "Red Hawks"...
  2. Oh I remember - Oct. 30, 2019 might be the happiest day of my life and all because of what happened at ten-til-midnight (eastern). We love our teams in D.C. but we are, comparatively speaking, a more understated fandom - especially compared to those weirdos up in Philadelphia. Those cats are no joke and while I do expect Houston to take at least one at CBP, they are in for a rough time - especially with the Eagles putting a beatdown on Pittsburgh today. I live near Harrisburg now - about two hours away - but I can feel the energy radiating east of here.
  3. I can't believe they did it. They actually stole Game 1 after being down 5-0. Best case scenario for Houston is going to CBP at 1-1 and I do NOT like those odds for them right now.
  4. An update on the fate of the old stadium "WASHINGTON — The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, commonly known as RFK Stadium, is one step closer to demolition. This week, D.C. officials filed an application for a raze permit for the closed stadium. The request for a raze permit was submitted on July 22 but wasn't filed until Oct. 24, records show. A raze permit is required authorization needed before the demolition of a building or a structure can begin. All raze permit applications must be submitted to the Historic Preservation Office (HPO) for clearance in D.C. There is currently no word on how long it may take for HPO to complete a review of the application. A public review will also need to happen before final approval." https://www.wusa9.com/article/sports/raze-permit-filed-rfk-stadium/65-24f2865a-5f24-4440-a208-e821b9180102?fbclid=IwAR2P8UMibcoEtj-hx-5iBrh8-wTdd6H2aPL0n3RTYzalStzL-VTOsYdn2NY
  5. I love the WMAL call of this game - the guys in the booth were giggling like mad, as incredulous as they were delighted.
  6. Hey, I got one of those! They were sorta haphazardly shoving them in our hands as we left the stadium. I guess they didn't want a recreation of this - which is weird because -This is one of the more fondly remembered moments of that Gibbs I golden era -This happened during a playoff game - seriously doubt people would do this during a mid-season game against a struggling Packers team
  7. I dunno - maybe I'm getting softer but seeing Bryce Harper win a pennant in Philadelphia is like seeing your ex thrive after a weird, nasty split. You've had a few years to mull on it and you realize you two just weren't that happy together. Now, they're with someone they're clearly happier with and while it stings a little, you can't help but be happy for them to some degree - and you make your peace with the whole thing. Also doesn't hurt we won that World Series in 2019. If that didn't happen, I would almost certainly be inconsolable right now.
  8. This was my yearly game in attendance and of all the football games I've ever seen, it sure was one of them. The game felt like it was at a neutral site - developed a real dislike of those ridiculous cheese head hat things. Sorta wonder how many of those people could actually find Wisconsin on a map, much less Green Bay. But despite the relatively ho-hum play by both teams (especially on offense), it was worth it to see Aaron Rogers make a fool of himself on the last play. Of course, I was still smoking when Taylor threw that bomb to Terry so I missed out on that but whadda gonna do?
  9. Boy this franchise really has had some truly wretched people at the helm. And if we're being totally honest, JKC was a pretty awful dude in his own right. The most honorable human being to have majority ownership has been...a big wig, D.C. lawyer.
  10. I was born just over the state line in Maryland so I will always hate the Irsay's for what they did in '84. But my God, if this absolutely whacked out fool actually gets the ball rolling on removing the Snyder family from this franchise and the NFL-at-large, I will be indebted to him for the rest of my life.
  11. After the Nationals won the World Series in 2019, my relationship with sports fandom completely changed. I reached a level of catharsis that is truly transcendent and I feel like I am "fulfilled" as a sports fan in a way I'm not in any other facet of my life. So, like...I will always follow this team but more like a civic institution and less like a football team.
  12. Couldn't have said it better myself. I've said it a million times but I'll say it again: I can handle losing. I have generational familiarity with losing (my grandfather and father were Senators fans, after all). I've never known the teams in this town to be dominant in any way but they still represent my hometown and I'll pull for them all the same. It makes moments like the 2018 Stanley Cup and the 2019 World Series that much sweeter. But what's going on with this franchise is something completely different. They don't even have the decency to be bad in an endearing sort of way. They're bad in a dark, unnerving, "you're making us all genuinely uncomfortable" sort of way and it all begins with the family running the show.
  13. Yeah, like, I'd love to have the kind of atmosphere this team had at RFK in the '70s and '80s but what does Doc actually want from us here? As we've made abundantly clear: the stadium is a dump, and one bereft of any charm, in a bad location and houses a permanently mediocre franchise. Are we supposed to make the non-existent temporary bleachers rock? Are we supposed to have a goon squad in every section to keep the opposing fans out?
  14. Ya know, I've mostly emotionally distanced myself from the franchise but losing to Dallas - especially like that - still gets me a little upset.
  15. They are the most visible symbol of my hometown that isn't directly connected to the Federal Government or the nation-at-large and I've been following them my whole life so no real use in stopping now. But I barely feel anything about them outside of vague contempt, primarily pointed at their owner. They're like an estranged relative - one I've heard a lot of great stories about from their past but have yet to actually see come through in any meaningful way in my lifetime.
  16. Please tell me you're getting paid for this. PLEASE tell me you aren't caping for Dan Snyder pro bono.
  17. Hell, it's my understanding folks thought the post-Gibbs I rebuild would be over and done sooner than later. We're pushing 30 years of waiting at this point.
  18. This team has been medicore-to-bad for as long as I can remember. I've been living at acceptance
  19. Genuinely love that Scoragami has gone mainstream. Jon Bois is one of the best video producers on YouTube and he deserves that and more.
  20. FedEx sounds absolutely listless. I heard a few pity claps for that completion.
  21. Well, I guess Carson and Sonny have one thing in common today. Betcha can't guess what it is
