  1. (showyourselves III thread) which by the way is no longer stickied- I just happened across it.
  2. The noise was doing this before the Fire hydrant incident. However, it's not nearly as bad as before. The noise happens turning either side and it's almost like I can feel it in the steering wheel, it's like a squeeky door when you open and close it. I'll have to take it in and I'll ask them to check the steering line.
  3. 1999 Toyota 4 Runner-approx 135k miles. Way back I posted about a weird noise in the stearing area. Tried the stearing fluid, didn't work. Then in March I slid into a fire hydrant (posted a thread and pics). I didn't really drive it, maybe once to the store until I got it fixed. They "fixed" the front wheel bearing and joint and did the alignment. The mechanic said my alignment won't go 100% straight, and might have a bent frame. But the noise when I turn is still there. ideas? I'll add that they said the struts were fine (someone locally thought it was that). It only makes the noise when I turn- sorta grinding, but also the stearing wheel feels tight.
  4. so to continue with the theme of my dog eating stuff...last summer he ate several seatbelts in my truck. The drivers belt is duck taped to stay together, but the others are pretty much gone, chewed in half. It is a ***** trying to find replacement belts without buying brand new ones. anyone know of a good website to get that stuff from cheap? The ones at the local junk yards are in trucks that have been wrecked, so I can't use the belts. ****ing dog! PS- it's a 99 Toyota 4 Runner
  5. anyone good with lawn mower mechanics? My dog ate the cord to the mower. I fixed it last year, but have to wind the damn thing each time I want to start it. Then he ate it again this week, AND ate the cord on my g/f's mower. ( I have to leave him in garage during work, but will now be leaving mower in outside shed:doh:) Anyway, I fixed one of the mowers again...but I still have to wind the cord each start. It's a bit annoying and I can't figure out how to wind it so it will coil back up once I start it.
  6. From the "Pelosi is a liar" thread
  7. (sorry, Keets, that was too easy)
  8. oh ****, that is funny!!! I just now caught it:hysterical:
  9. funny MTH oh yeah and **** Dallas
  10. I had to replace the back axel seal and brakes, along with the 'stuff' that goes along with that. (don't ya love the "non mechanic" way of putting things? I finally found out why my truck was making noise up front, and it's not the steering or struts...the ball bearings. My sister asked why I don't just go buy a new car since has been costing some large chunks of money recently. I guess it's cause I love this truck and don't mind the maintenance that it takes after 134K miles.... thoughts anyone?
  11. well, the shop just called. $600. The alignment is $85 w/ tax (a bit more due to 4x4)....he said my struts are fine, that the noise my front is making is something else and damn if I can't remember what the hell he said. But the quote is only for the alignment, my back brakes and ball bearing? thing in the back. I was listening to him and trying to pay attention to something else. I'll repost the exacts tomorrow when I get the paperwork.....but all in all, the fire hydrant deal isn't the problem, just the typical wear and tear after 133k miles.
  12. twa, I know that I need new struts, one of the things happening when I take it in tonight. I wonder if the accident just made the strut issue worse... thanks for your info!
  13. Thanks...I paid $155 for the Explorer work, so I guess that was about right. He said the parts were $70 (minus the wiper motor cause i had that already). on the 4 runner, do you have an idea of what could be bent? I'll have to take a look when I get home.
  14. ok, another one. 99 Toyota 4 runner-The steering wheel is turned sideways due to my killing a fire hydrant a couple weeks ago. did bumper damage mostly. I can let go of steering wheel and my truck still drives straight. BUT...it does seem to pull in other than perfect conditions. Is it still the alignment even though it doesn't "pull"? I'm taking it in tonight, but just wanted an ES opinion. Thanks!
  15. I have a couple questions... #1How much should a fuel pump cost for a Winstar mini van? A friends went out, but thinks her mechanic is charging way too much. I think in the $450 range for parts/labor. #2- 91 Ford explorer. How much would it cost for an oil change w/ new filter, replace the wiper motor (the part was free, so just labor on that) and to flush/refil the transmission fluid? Just trying to see if this mechanic is charging way too much, or is fair. Thanks guys!
  16. TWA- not a whining, more of a growl/grind....and it's not really loud, I almost didn't hear it. and it just started yesterday afternoon. I car pool, so I don't have to drive this week..If I fill up the steering fluid and it still makes that noise...what is next? thanks!
  17. so haven't posted in this yet....and really didn't want to read all 374 posts... My 4 runner is an automatic...making funny noises when I turn. Do I just need to add steerling fluid? Should I be more concerned.?
