  1. I'm pulling for the Big 10 to crush everyone. I used to do the same with the ACC, mostly. The one exception is I am also pulling for VCU, so if someone's playing them, not so much. I've always kind of pulled for Michigan State come tourney time if they aren't playing the Terps. We still owe them a couple, but I like Tom Izzo. He and Gary Williams always reminded me of each other. as far as just coaching their asses off and getting the most out of their players. Edit: Oh well, so much for that. Big 10 all the way.
  2. Good posts in here. I think Bang is spot on. It is the duty of the beat writers to present facts, and also opinion, but Reid spent years progressively getting more aggressive and bitter with his work. Less facts, more opinion. It's his thing. He did try to personally and professionally humiliate the very entities that he was covering in the first place. It's probably a bad example, but I was just imagining a White House correspondent showing up to the press briefings and antagonizing the press secretary, then later reporting what a buffoon the press secretary is and what an inept scumbag his boss is. You can have those opinions, but you are also expected to report facts, and couch opinions in a professional manner. It used to be what was expected of journalists. Not so much anymore. People want pizzazz,
  3. The NCAA Selection Committee had Maryland ranked 14. Not media or coaches. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25109120/ncaa-tournament-selection-committee-releases-1-68-ranking But, I see other teams kind of in the same boat. If you go by the NCAA's own rankings, UVA should be the top overall #2 seed, and in the bracket with Wisconsin (the lowest 1 seed). But they got put in the same bracket as Villanova (2nd in the NCAA final rankings). You're right, rankings don't matter when they are seeding. Who knows what mysterious criteria decides who goes where. No use in crying over spilled milk though. I think this is a pretty good write up. http://www.testudotimes.com/2015/3/16/8219993/2015-ncaa-march-madness-bracket-midwest-region
  4. rivals.com "Turgeon also said that he had caught wind the day before that the Terps may be heading to the Midwest region as a No. 4 seed and that in hindsight he probably should have shared that information with his team to temper their expectations." ... "The number in front of your name, it's just a number," Turgeon said. "It's who you're playing is what's really important. So we're playing a good [Valparaiso] team but the seeding didn't really affect our reaction." https://maryland.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1747000 When it's all said and done, I'm still betting Kentucky vs. ROF in a (hopefully) Win/Win scenario
  5. I do agree with this team being not as good as their record indicates. When they cracked the top 10, it was hard to believe, but they won the games to get them there and kept winning. Georgetown getting that higher 4 seed is hard to stomach. If you look at the 4 big season stats that ESPN highlights, Georgetown does have better rankings in four big categories: PPG, RPG, APG. and FGP. The RPI though has Maryland 11 and GTown 25. Confuses me. but indeed, it is what it is. My best guess is maybe it hurt them in the 'eye test' thing because beyond the big 3, it gets a little fuzzy. If it was spun that way, maybe it would provide a little extra motivation to anyone not named Melo, Dez, or Jake. ...and they finished ranked ahead of Louisville and Georgetown in the NCAA's own final rankings. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25109120/ncaa-tournament-selection-committee-releases-1-68-ranking
  6. Wow. Guess we're gonna have to beat the best for real. What a surprising raw deal. That reaction video shows how shocked they were. And what the hell is Smotrycz doing? Is that vogueing? pffft.
  7. Man that sucks. This will get them focused for the big dance though hopefully. They did look pretty flat in the second half. Get ready for the last ride of Dez. He should be good and motivated.
  8. Gotta agree about the officiating. They have called every possible thing against us while we are getting no calls on more obvious fouls. ..and another BS call on Wells on a clean block.
  9. This team is so fun to watch. Gritty win, again. Dez reminds me of Vasquez, just how his will alone seems to make a difference in every game. I love Dez. Kinda funny from pre-game: https://v.cdn.vine.co/r/videos/035ABC6E521188296723806707712_355da5d586e.1.5.3581366148771942735.mp4?versionId=_0j4nJrbPo1oUPitMTURPxGoA.vhOlxy
  10. The rebounding is driving me nuts..I feel like the Terps should dominate the glass against them, but for the third time that's not the case.
  11. Yup. Indiana it is. I'd love to see a big win in a stress-less game, but pretty sure that ain't happening. Hopefully they get past IU, and I think we may be seeing Izzo and Sparty in the post season yet again. Who do you guys think would be the better match up between MSU and OSU if they get the win against Indiana? Game times: Michigan-Wisconsin: Noon Penn State-Purdue: 2:30 Maryland-Indiana: 6:30 Michigan State-Ohio State: 9:00
  12. 51 total fouls called! 27-Maryland 24-Nebraska. I think MD averages around 16 a game. Another squeaker and Dez comes up big again. At least this team will be accustomed to tight games come tourney time. Edit: And good thing Nebraska can't make free throws. They were terrible at the line. 23 of 37.
  13. It looks like three teams can still get that 10 seed; Nebraska, Northwestern, and Minnesota. Of those, Northwestern has been playing better as of of late, and just beat Indiana. IU is in a bit of a slump. We barely eeked out the win against NW in January when Dez was in the right place at the right time, and got that putback on a missed Trimble 3. The Terps got lucky in that one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed Minnesota is who the Terps end up matched up against in the quarterfinals. I hope whoever is 10 beats Indiana, but I don't think NW would be a cakewalk. Nebraska either. Really no one is an easy out. The Terps are usually great at raising blood pressure regardless of who they are playing. Good luck to the ladies tonight! I'll be switching between games.
  14. Clinched at least the 2 seed. That double bye is pretty sweet. http://www.testudotimes.com/2015/3/3/8145595/maryland-big-ten-tournament-seeding-2015 Dave Tucker ‏@TestudoDave 7m7 minutes ago If season ended right now (via BTN broadcast)
  15. This did get a little lost in the fray last night Maryland Basketball ‏@TerrapinHoops 11m11 minutes agoCollege Park, MD Lost in the excitement of last night, our guy Dez Wells passed Joe Smith for 25th on the Terps' career points list.
  16. Storming the court for winning a game few expected you'd win, after missing the tourney for years, in the first year in a new conference that everyone thought you'd be a middling team in, against the conference leader who happens to be a top 5 team. Let the students have their fun. I say. No biggie. That was the best win since Vasquez was there. I hope Dez gets to see some post season glory too. He was super Dez tonight.
  17. Just a FYI for future games that might be on CBS but not in your viewing area on DTV or whatever, but that game was streamable on cbssports.com, in case anyone didn't know. Not sure if all CBS games are like that, but there was a link right on their main page to watch it.
  18. It is pretty damn cool to be able to catch nearly every game on the Big Ten Network and not need to watch ESPN3 streams. I think there was only one game I had to stream so far this year. Turgeon on last night's loss: http://maryland.247sports.com/Article/Turgeon-For-First-Time-This-Season-Players-Didnt-Give-All-34564547
  19. Man that sucks. I was just thinking how the world seemed a little more right with Terps bball seemingly back on track. Better now than later though. If Dez is out 4 weeks, then I think they should still be in pretty good shape. Really puts a damper on the UVA, OK State, and maybe Michigan State games though. Hopefully, they can get at least one of those big 3 in the next month and Dez will be back for when the conference schedule kicks in, starting on Dec 30. Any other potential pitfalls here? Monmouth today VMI-Nov 30 UVA-Dec 3 Winthrop- Dec 6 NCCU- Dec 10 UPST- Dec 13 OK St- Dec 21 Oak- Dec 27 MSU- Dec 30 http://terrapinstationmd.com/2014/11/28/dez-wells-miss-four-weeks-fractured-wrist/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter http://www.testudotimes.com/2014/11/28/7302857/maryland-basketball-dez-wells-injury-replacement-2014
  20. "Money spiders are tiny arachnids that often appear on your clothes and cars at this time of the year." So they just float off over our heads, and drop down out of the sky? If there was ever a good place to just install some random powerlines, all around that godforsaken place would be it. Catch em on takeoff.

  23. Thank you zoony. If it looks like a duck...
  24. Not a DIY question but I'm looking for some HVAC advice. We've been getting quotes for central air and the two we got are pretty far apart. One is from a contractor type and one is from a full-blown you are gonna pay a lot, but very reputable type company. We're also having to relocate our service panel (the actual power meter-not the circuit breaker panel; it's a very old house) from the basement to outside We've got a quote for Goodman Seer 13 heat pumps, one in the attic and one downstairs. This guy is telling me he wants to put the one downstairs in our half basement. Am I right that this is a bad idea? Won't that create noise, temperature, and moisture issues?
