  1. Who knows, it might not be Johnson after all.

Dan Campbell was the fire and brimstone guy in Detroit, and if they feel that Johnson is incapable of replicating at least some of that, despite his offensive and analytical pedigree, they might not want him. I can understand they don't want another Norv Turner here.

  2. I wonder if Pete Carroll’s “advisor role” is a sticking point for either candidates, especially how it was forced upon him. Is he still active in the organization? Is he going to be in the facility? What was Schneider’s role in that, if any? These are some of the questions I’d be asking if I were MacDonald or Johnson. No one outside of the Seahawks brass saw that firing coming and that surprise can manifest uncertainty that could work against Seattle.

Perennial winning culture - recent SB and playoff appearances.

Also, a way more talented roster than Washington.

What does any of that mean for 2024? We have a new owner, a new GM, and will reahaul the front office. Things can change dramatically over the course of  a year or so. New England had a winning culture and a recent dynasty, and now they’re more likely to return to the cellar than repeat their success.

He can be as confident as he wants.

He also knows full well that a couple well placed injuries to key guys and he'd be S.O.L. Even the best laid plans can be ruined 4 snaps into a season.

You can't guarantee success in the NFL. You can guarantee money tho.

    Practically everybody chases bag.

Yeah, never heard of a quality HC whose whole career was encapsulated and derailed by player injuries. If he fails, it won’t be because players got hurt.

Plus it likely wont be a 20 Mil diff.

If we offer 4 yrs 11 Mil and Car goes 8 Yr 15 Mil your asking Ben to walk away from 76 Mil to come here... I'd know where I'd be coaching.

If he’s confident in his ability to succeed as HC, then he knows we’d extend him beyond those 4 years and make him one of the highest paid coaches at the same time. In addition to the competitive job security and money that are contingent upon his performance here, he has a better supporting team to help ensure his continued success.

  6. Love Raheem, but we've had coaches here who were "beloved" or liked by players, and that usually didn't end well. I prefer a disciplinarian first but who's fair, consistent, detail-oriented, and can clearly/efficiently communicate X's/O's to the players. If Morris is that guy, then bring him in. If not, I hope the team looks elsewhere. To be honest, none of the coaches favored to come here are all that impressive to me.

Absolutely. Especially if that complementary quarterback is the greatest of all time, and only accounts for a fraction of his fair market value against the salary cap because his model wife is worth ten times more.

Not going to restart the chicken or the egg argument (Belichick vs. Brady). They should be equally credited for their accomplishments in NE, and I’ve read a couple of Patriots book to understand that culture of accountability and simplicity imposed by the Hood played a significant role in TB12’s growth and success there.

My gut with Bill is his well is running dry and his style (the patriot way) will never work again in the NFL

I think it can work, provided he has a complementary QB to promote it in the locker room. Belichick can instill it at the coaching level, but he also needs a leader among the players to push the agenda at the player level and who can produce. If it's only the coaches, there could be a disconnect, you're right.

He needs 20+ wins to become the winningest HC before he retires. His standards may relax a bit to take over a talented team that can coast to 10+ wins per season and a playoff berth with the right defensive coaching. It has been reported he’s developed a decent relationship with both Jerry and Stephen Jones over the years.

I’m not afraid of him landing there, but just from the perspective of legacy I can see the appeal. I think he’ll have a hard time convincing that locker room of his Patriot Way culture though, given the Cowboys manage to craft their own weird identity despite no playoff success. Jerry manages to bluff that team into thinking it’s a prestige destination and builds an arrogant culture despite having nothing to show for it for decades. That may be tough to contend with, if you’re Belichick and trying to change how they operate. Whether he’s washed or not as a coach.

If he intends to implement a different offense or bring in McDaniels, not sure if coasting to 10+ wins would be a given. How will Dak/Lamb respond? Will they struggle under a new philosophy? The way I see it, for Dallas to keep getting their 12-13 wins regardless of coaching changes they'd have to maintain continuity on the offensive side of the ball, which means running a similar or compatible scheme to what they're already using and I'm not sure Belichick goes for that.

  10. Belichick would never go to Dallas. He turned down the Jets to go to New England for the same reason he's going to avoid the Cowboys, namely ownership issues.

If lets say someone else offered you twice the money and twice the power to return to your home state -- might be tempting

Might be tempting but it might also be short-sighted.

I’m sure he’d be compensated handsomely and enjoy a sound quality of life, but there’s a higher risk that his career would stall and his reputation diminished if his relationship with such an ill-tempered and unpredictable owner deteriorates and culminates in his abrupt firing. By then, he wouldn’t be a hot commodity, a new cluster of offensive gurus could emerge, and people will have forgotten about his bright stint in Detroit. Financial achievement can breed failure if money is one’s primary focus and motivation. If it’s the promise of personnel control that entices him, then it’s even more prudent for us to analyze our commitment to such a person who has yet coached an entire team much less been responsible for its composition.

I’m not here to debate with you cause I’m in total agreement with your above stated facts, but on the reverse side he also got Stephan Davis in the 4th round out of Auburn who as we know was very good here and also signed probably the best QB we’ve had here not named Cousins in Brad Johnson, so while he had bad draft picks he also had some good moves too, I think it’s always a 50/50 when it comes to this type of stuff….

You're right. I think things were turning around. Our defense still stunk, but we had one of the best offenses in the league, outside of Minnesota and of course the St. Louis Rams. Of course Snyder's first round of meddling was enough to tank the whole momentum into oblivion

How much input can Caleb actually have on Chicago’s decision?  This may be wishful thinking but what if he really sends out signals of not wanting to play for the Bears and preferring the Skins….  Perhaps it would only add to his reputational issues but since the Commanders are literally so close to being in position to draft him, it might be tempting for him?…

That would put a dent on the value of the #1 pick because no one would trade Chi for it if their intention to do so was to grab CW. I’d assume that hit to the #1 pick would upset the Bears more than CW’s supposed preference to play elsewhere.

What is the deal with Mike Florio? I can't believe I just watched a youtube video of him saying there are warning signs in Washington of Josh Harris bringing in Myers and Spielman as a cover for him going after Belichick?! Also that Washington is not desirable. What?

Like many aged-out reporters, he rested on his brief laurels, failed to establish new contacts and make new insider connections which the profession ruthlessly demands, and is embittered because he’s now on the outside looking in.
