Hue Jackson may not be safe. The new Chiefs GM wouldn't say if Hue was coming back. He gave runaround talking about something else, when asked about Hue.  It will not shock me, to see Hue Jackson as the next Bengals coach.

I don't care how much of the blame is put on GM, you can't bring back a HC that has won ONE game out of 32.  Crazy if they do...of course, it is the ___________ we are talking about.

He didn't win them ****.  Both of those SB's were won by dominant defensive play and two of the luckiest catches you'll ever see. HE is one of the most overrated QB's in the past 20 years.  Outside of those two SB seasons, Eli has never won a playoff game.  He has made a career off of his family name, and been overrated because he happens to be a Manning.

Now, the Geno Smith part is a complete joke.  Anyone being benched for Geno should be put on suicide watch.  As bad as Eli is, he's better than Geno, but the backup QB on my high school team was better than Geno, so that's not saying much.

I disagree.  If nothing else, I thought he, similar to Flacco in his SB playoff run, passed the NFL franchise QB "eye test".  Eli, and Flacco, can really look like crap at times, but I thought in watching them during those runs that they LOOKED like top franchise QBs.  Both made big plays throughout the playoffs, and I thought Eli in particular did very well in making plays that you need a top flight QB to make in the playoffs/SB.

Denver fired their OC, that won't do much. Joseph has good shot of being one and done.

Bowles needs to finish strong, a double digit losing season and he's done.

Koetter is on the way out, Bucs have been a major disappointment. Rumors are Chucky returns.

Caldwell got an extension during the offseason apparently. He has Lions in playoff hunt, he's returning.

Del Rio is on the hot seat but not 100% sure he's gone.

Lewis's contract expires at the end of the season; doubtful Brown gives him a new one.

Can't disagree strongly with most of your assessments.

Yeah, I thought Joseph early in the season was safe no matter what just because he's a rookie.  But, I have to think Elway can't live with a coach that has his team look so ill-prepared and unmotivated.

Firing Bowles would be crazy IMO.  He's outperformed expectations this season, but crazier things have happened.

You are probably right about Caldwell, especially since they seem to be surging lately.

del Rio's team looks awful.  Not their "fault" there was  high expectations for them, but they are screwing up a chance to win the NFCW b/c it doesn't seem the Chiefs want to.

Lewis should be gone, but he's kind of like Jeff Fisher and "What about Bob".  ("He's not gone....he's NEVER gone!")

  5. So I will admit to being ignorant/sexist/naïve/etc. with not fully understanding why women who appear to be strong, confident adults would not "out" Weinstein earlier which would have hopefully resulted in him being stopped.  But the more you hear and read, the more I can understand the kind of power and control he was able to wield over most of his victims.  Good on those that initially came forward.  For those that covered, and continue to cover, his misdeeds I hope and pray that they will also seem some sort of criminal/civil charges.

    https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/harvey-weinsteins-army-of-spies

"Over the course of a year, Weinstein had the agencies “target,” or collect information on, dozens of individuals, and compile psychological profiles that sometimes focussed on their personal or sexual histories. Weinstein monitored the progress of the investigations personally. He also enlisted former employees from his film enterprises to join in the effort, collecting names and placing calls that, according to some sources who received them, felt intimidating."

  6. Joseph down to "Probably Safe".  Shouldn't enjoy first year protection after his defense quit yesterday.

Gruden up a level to "Probably Safe".  Think I saw my dad blocking for skins yesterday.

McAdoo down to a need-to-be-created level ("Won't make it to Black Monday").  Quitting doesn't quite describe what they're doing.  Good news for skins since they have them two times.

  7. On average I think 5-6 coaches are fired each year.  Expect that tradition to continue.

My take at the 1/2 way point of the season, although significant trend record-wise in either direction could adjust the second and third categories below.  The first category would need a Kevin Spacey-esque news item to be bumped into one of the lower categories.

  8. Nothing more stressful than 175deg showing on the thermometer at 2pm with people coming over for a 4pm game.  I used to try and do a large (~10-12#) butt at 225, but it would take 20+ hours on BGE if I didn't wrap it.  Now I aim for 240-250, put it on at around 9-10pm, wrap it in foil (with a little apple juice) in the morning and once it reaches 190+, I pull it, wrap in another layer of foil and several towels and quickly put in a cooler.   Will stay very warm for hours and is ready to shred for dinner.  So much less stress.

  9. Understand the knee-jerk reaction calling for Lewis to be fired. But.....I'll be the devils advocate. Not Marvin Lewis' fault the rb fumbles the ball in that spot. Only one job there for rb. They wouldn't have definitely won with a fg, but odds were in their favor. Lewis could be blamed for boneheaded penalties for sure. I personally thot Porter should be held to higher standard than player, but the lack of discipline hurt.

Big point is, Lewis had the team in a position to win with 1.5 minutes to go, with a backup QB against the team that no one wanted to play going into the playoffs. With Dalton, they were top 2-3 team in the AFC. Doesn't help Lewis that he plays in division with steelers and ravens (2 of the top-run franchises in the NFL).

In order to fire someone, you need to make sure your have a better option. Only person that fits that bill that is available wouldl be coughlin.

  10.

Not sure where I'd rather be if I were a coach deciding on a team right now.

I would imagine prospective coaches are making their decisions on two things:  1) is there a solid front office (GM/Personnel scouting) that "I" can work with, and 2) does the team have either a franchise QB or the ability to go get one (top 1-5 pick).  So, if I had to rank them based on my crappy front office ranking, I'd say (in this order):  Giants, Dolphins, Titans, Eagles, 49ers, Bucs  ..................... and Browns.

It is mind-boggling to me how owners can't "get it".  EVERYONE in the world sees that it is fairly "simple" process for the owner:

    1) Hire a competent GM that at least has experience working for a functional front office and has a vision of how to build a team.

    2) Ensure GM stocks his PP team with talent.

    3) Have the GM perform a coaching search that meshes with his vision.

    4) Hire coaching staff for 4 years minimum.

    5) Go to Carribean a lot & drink beer in the owners box during games for four years (you're making money no matter what!).

    6) After(!!!!) 4 years, reevaluate.

Invest the Vanguard way.  Stability normally = success (unless you don't get a franchise QB).  Churn in the NFL is rarely good, and definitely not for long-term success.

Never got all the love for Lovie (see what I did there?). He's not a bad coach, but to me he was very average. He reminds me of Norv Turner or Steve Spagnolo in that he makes a much better coordinator than head coach.

Glad Payton stayed in NO. I was afraid he'd go to Philly or the Giants.

He went to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman as his QB...I think he should be first ballot HOF!

  11. Eli sucks, always has but when your defense holds Tom Brady to 14 how many 1/2 way decent Qbs lose?

IMO the Giants are going to become the new Redskins of the NFCE if the Eagles don't beat them to it.

We'll have to agree to disagree.  IMHO, Eli's the best QB in the NFCE, and top-3 or 4 in the NFC overall (behind Rodgers, Brees and maybe Wilson?).  I'd put Palmer above him but he's done nothing in the playoffs, granted not all his fault.  If Cousins continues on his trajectory he would pass him, but postseason is where the QBs earn their $$.

  12. The NFCE is ours for the foreseeable future.

Giants and the Eagles keep their Vinny over their coaches and skeletor still believes that all that "talent" is going to win with him and his sockpuppet Jason Garrett.

Not necessarily.  Looking at it right now, unless Romo is 100% all year next year, you would expect the division to be the Skins again.  But after that year, it's impossible to make predictions.  As long as the Giants have Eli, they have a chance to be very good.  The skins are going to have to PAY Cousins, which is going to make for tough choices elsewhere.

Has any NFCE team repeated in the past 5-6 years?

  13. Wow--kind of shocked by the Coughlin resignation, since I'm sure it was essentially a sword of Damacleus like scenario, where they essentially said you can resign or we can fire you.  The person who deserves the heat is the GM, Reese.  Massive parts of that team (secondary, LB, ST, offensive line, RB) have been neglected for years.

Coughlin is an absolutely top notch coach.

When Andy Reid IV leads Philadelphia Eagles to their first SB, he will have a job for life.  Much less two!

Coughlin is a great coach and I've sort of viewed him as the glue holding an aging Giants squad together the past few years. Curious who they bring in to go down with that sinking ship.

They have Eli & Odell....better than most rebuilding teams.

  14. Hardwood (solid) flooring.  So, I've laid hardwood in the past (2x) but am considering doing a critical area (entrance, dining room, large living room & hallway.  Couple of questions if anyone has experience in the area:

    1) Is tearing up old hardwood flooring hard?  Seems to me it would be, especially 2.25".  I have about a 1/3 of it already covered with hardwood flooring, but I want all of it to match.

    2) How to tell difference between "good" and "bad" flooring?  Only way I know is manufacturer, wood type and cost.  Seems to me entry-level is about $4.50-$6.00/sqft and to get quality hardwood flooring, you're looking at ~$7-8/sqft.  I did a room for charity and used Lowe's Bruce oak that they had in stock and it was garbage.  Probably 10-15% waste.

  15. Does seem a little strange to make the change with one game left to play, guess Lurie wasn't to thrilled with what he heard with Chip's plans for next season and bit the bullet now. Lot of ex eagles rejoicing tonight I'd expect.

Not really, given that they are out of the playoffs and can start talking to coaches earlier than most other teams that will have vacancies.  My hope is they bring in a honest-to-goodness GM who is in charge of the hiring process, but I don't have a lot of faith in that.  Seems like it's going to be Smolenski, Roseman and Lurie doing the interviews.

  16. I think the Eagles would want what the Raiders got for Gruden and no coach is worth that.

Titans are better off not trying to trade for Kelly.

I will accept their 2nd & 4th round picks, and one of their starting OG.  If they don't buy that...then one of their OGs and a couple of free tickets to a show in Nashville.  If that still doesn't fly, free U-Haul rental from PHI-TEN (one way).

  17. I'd probably consider myself more Republican than Democrat.  I think Trump is an idiot however, but think Obama has struggled mightily in some areas, but don't see him as the anti-Christ, and certainly don't blame him for all of American societal ills.  So...I think both parties kind of suck right now, but I am definitely more conservative than most on here probably.

All that being said...the Syrian refugees are EXACTLY the refugees we should be accepting as part of our country's immigration plan.  To turn them away is un-American, IMHO.  I'm actually ashamed/embarrassed that so many leaders are proposing this so publicly.  We can't fix our immigration mess for years, yet now we're going to block one group of people?  Ignorant.

New Haven is WAY nicer than Indiana anyway!  Maybe they could join the Yale protests?  I kid...

  18. "The United States Soccer Federation has outlined plans to stop children aged 10 and under heading footballs."

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34780549

I coach U14 girls club team and we are "behind" in heading development.  Most of our training has been using volleyballs, and only for nodding balls to the ground, not clearing a punted or corner-kick ball.  I've kind of seen this coming for awhile.  At some point (this year for us), they have to begin heading the ball, especially defenders.

I don't know how you really stop heading balls, so not sure how they're going to implement this.  Hopefully better than the age-year mess they've created.
