    The Grilling and Cooking Thread

What are your thoughts on it? I've been REALLY tempted to pick one up. I want to use it for low-n-slow smoking because the Weber kettle is just painful to keep a balanced temp, but I've heard the kamado style grills are a pain if they over heat because they take forever to cool.

Let's brag about our kids thread

Ethan is having a very good summer, Univ. Akron Men's Soccer camp this weekend. Ethan was selected as the starting GK for the All-Star team and named as the Most Valuable Goalkeeper for the camp out of 24 goalkeepers. We had some more very good conversations with the coaches. For those who may not know Akron, they have won their conference championship every year since 2002, they've had several NCAA tourney Final Fours and a National Championship, in short they are a men's college soccer powerhouse. We were talking with the head coach and he said that Ethan was the fan favorite among the coaches. This was the 2nd All Star team he's been named to at NCAA Division 1 teams this summer.
  3. Someone once said that there ought to be a book written on how to navigate the path between high school athletics, travel ball, and college recruiting for up and coming athletes. (That someone was me BTW...last night) I know there are a lot of us out there trying to figure out this crazy world of developmental and college prep sports. This is a place to ask questions, share concerns, share proud parent moments, and vent. All sports are welcome. Do NOT come here to bash the current state of athletic development systems. Take your anti-AAU, anti-travel ball rants somewhere else. @Kilmer17 @dchogs

@PleaseBlitz is that the Acron smoker from Lowes
  6. Like sure, ok Karen, but don't I need my own understanding to understand the Bible or when god is supposedly talking to me? Or should I listen to others? But if I listen to others aren't they leaning on their own understanding? Oh, I will know when god is leading me? Really, because in my head god sounds a lot like the voice telling me to slap the **** out of the annoying lady in line at Walmart.
  7. “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” ~DC Talk And apparently, it's what a believing world simply finds unbelievable.

    US Soccer thread.

What is this a joke?! Are you joking? This is a joke right?! What are you from a radio station?!
  9. We're talking about the state of Christianity in America in a Trumpian world, I'm just reflecting to you exactly what I got from the good religious folks for 20 years whenever I tried to talk about things like evolution and god. You're trying to have an honest debate, and I'm telling you that they don't give a **** about what you, the Pope, or any other educated ****ing liberal has to say. They know what god said and that's it. Hell, as soon as you bring the Pope into the discussion most of them will take the opposite position BECAUSE the Pope believes it.

    BitCoin falling like a Dotcom

Same....literally I expect the value of the dollar to plummet any second now.
  11. It's the same sarcastic bull**** response I got for 20 years every time I talked to Evangelicals about that exact same thing.
  12. You're right, I missed one, 3) you pretend there aren't serious concerns about the authenticity and accuracy of the Bible and you simply theologize away any problems and pretend it's all part of the glory that is the mystery of god. Which is just another way of saying the first one.
  13. I don't care just so long as its singular Observations: .2-.3% in DC and South Dakota....statistical anomaly? Kentucky's 12% is bigger than I thought, same with W. Virginia. Red States are showing a BIG shift. BTW, got a link?
  14. I love having these conversations, but "Revelations" is like nails on a chalkboard to me...It's the Revelation of John, singular. Sorry, serious pet peeve says more about me than you, but I have to put that out there.
  15. Yup. Wanna hear a trippy theory on Revelation and the Gospel of John? Written by Lazarus. I'm not even kidding a little. I'd have to search up my old notes, but I had a professor who laid out some interesting questions about the theory. I'm not gonna read that article, but thank you for posting it. As for the theories about angels etc, I'm sorry but that's a bull**** cheat to avoid the fact that they're reading their Bibles wrong. As to your last point, it becomes very difficult to the point where you either plug your nose and surrender on faith, or you close the book one last time and let it collect dust. Somewhere along the way I chose the latter.
  16. Trump: "Lots of excellent stuff, the greatest stuff. Truly great stuff. The best."
  17. Revelation was most likely not even written by John, isn't that the **** of it all? All this haggling over scripture and most of the texts (other than the letters) weren't even written by those they are attributed to, but yeah, let's argue about the authority of a text. Hell, the gluttony alone would gag her!!
  18. Freaking genius, pure comedic gold.
  19. Pentateuch or Torah, yes. The discussion around how the canon was decided upon is a much broader topic than I can go into in this thread, but there was a lot of debate about a lot of parts, including the Torah, and more hotly contested Revelation itself which barely snuck in.
  20. Exactly....and yes I get the joke, but still.....exactly. Well actually, that same type of verse shows up in Deuteronomy and that's like in the first five books......sooooooo Deuteronomy 4:2 New American Standard Bible (NASB) You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. But to that verse in Revelation, you do know that it was written for that particular apocalyptic work alone right? Because it wasn't like John was sitting on the Isle of Patmos with a Bible in his hands and thought, "Now, I've got time to write that final chapter." The individual works weren't compiled until 397AD. So that passage in Revelation couldn't have meant the entire canon of scripture, because when it was written it wasn't even considered scripture. Unless of course you're going to argue that the scholars in 397AD added that passage, in which case is it really ordained scripture since it's not part of the original text? Yeah, don't **** with me. LOL
  21. You mean like God's ways don't change....except for eating shrimp....and stoning disobedient children. God said it...I believe it...that settles it.
  22. No no, see those are just bad examples of the religion. See, me and the hidden ones practice the authentic Christianity. You'll never see us because the group is a fiction that Christians tell themselves to make themselves feel better when confronted with the reality that it's the Evangelicals who put a troll like Trump in power and it's them that are keeping him there. So as "authentic" Christian sits in her pew surrounded by active and passive Trump supporters she has to tell her that she's different, that there is a group like her who "get it right" where all of these others fail. It's this pursuit for the authentic Christianity that has caused EVERY split in the church. I was once that person, thinking god was speaking to me to voice the purity of His will. And what I found was that no one cares, and those that do spend most of their time debating about how their version is the right one, that true strain of authenticity that draws a line straight to Jesus' heart. Meanwhile a guy in Tennessee stands behind a pulpit preaching that cops should be arresting and killing homosexuals because that's what the Bible teaches and he's the voice of authenticity with the line to the will of God! In the end it's nothing more than a Rorschach Blot, liberals, moderates, conservatives all staring into the face of Jesus and praising his beauty without ever realizing the portrait before them is a mirror.
  23. Just saw this gem...this **** infuriates me. The people who believe this **** feel that since they are publicly shamed for their bigotry and desire to deny equal rights to LGBTQ's that they are the persecuted. Hey dumbass, wake up!
