  1. Based on the database above, and obviously anything can happen with these players before Next month, but let’s dissect this a little and see where we should really be pursuing FAs and what we should be finding in the draft. I think it’s also notable to consider balancing younger rookie players with veterans at any given position. This helps to balance cap space, right? so: RB Bell (!?) Mckinnon Hyde lets make a run at any of these guys. Any of them will balance well with CT and Perine. OG A Norwell J Pugh J Mewhort DT S Richardson D Poe B Logan S Lotululei Kyle Williams CB M Butler Tr Johnson Kyle Fuller (why not?!) Morrus Claiborne (ding ding ding) S L Joyner E Reid M Burnett WR Allen Robinson S Watkins M Lee D Montcrief J Brown EDGE D Lawrence? He’s more of a 4-3 end... not a lot of edge this year on the market. i think in this order of importance, based on these few selections, we should prioritize these positions in FA: DT RB OG WR safety depends on what the deal is with Su’a. Hoping and praying he returns because the dude is a straight playmaker and he had serious concussion symptoms until Last December. so that said, in the draft in rounds 1 and 2, assuming we don’t trade back, we should be considering BPA. To me snagging one of the top two WRs will make a huge difference in the offense and would fill an immediate need. We need like two new WRs. I just don’t see this FA pool being the whole answer for WR. DT draft class is deep and we have the coaching to bring someone along from the later rounds and up to rotate with Johnathan and one of these FA DTs that can make an immediate impact. And then if Lamar Jackson is there in 2nd round, or even mason Rudolph, I think we’d have to really think about that. This class of QBs is incredible and it’s not out of the question to still pull one in the 2nd, but also a deeper QB could be just as valuable. Lots of ways to cut it! Just spitballin

I’m all about drafting speed. I think R.J. is gonna go in the 1st when it’s all said and done... an RB in the 1st would be sweet but I just don’t see it happening given what the team needs most. plus, we resigned Bibbs (?), CT, Perine, Rob Kelley guys is still in the building, so. That’s what we’re working with. Adding another RB in the late rounds is more likely. Possible mid-late rounders: Bo Scar John Kelly (started over kamara y’all). Not a good offense and he had some epic SEC games (watch vs Florida) ballage... Akrum Wadley has *some* shady appeal but not really. if we wanna spend money in Fa we should chase Le’Veon. WTF not?? Better to pay him than Jarvis. Gimme Le’Veon, or McKinnon, or Hyde. Make a for real run at them. while it would be awesome to get a Guice or R.J., the available capable RBs in Fa tell me at we should spend the money in FA. Bring in a vet as the Rb room is pretty young overall. Plus I still have faith in Perine.

This is interesting as NFL.com and LZ gather their intel. I’m listing below the top prospects that *could* be avail for #13 overall. Some of their comps are epic: Q Nelson 7.4 (Larry Allen) T Edmunds 7.2 (Brian Urlacher) C Ridley 7.0 (Marvin Harrison) D Payne 6.6 (Brandon Williams) R Smith 6.5 (Deon Jones) V Vea 6.5 (Danny Shelton) D James 6.4 (Eric Berry) D Guice 6.4 (Marshawn Lynch) Ronald Jones 6.4 (Jamaal Charles) ... Baker Mayfield 6.0 (Doug Flutie) Lamaar Jackson 6.0 (Michael Vick) http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-grade/dt-by-grade-input:1/dt-by-position-input:dl

I have thought about this as well, it seems the team is willing to move pieces around, even with Su’a as you could make the argument that decision to have him play out of his natural position brought on his concussion symptoms and thus him missing a season. To me Ryan Anderson is just what your saying here- strong, emotional leader, smart, but not a lot of athletic advantages, being shorter etc. I recall him saying he can play any LB position, so if we need that depth at ILB let’s see how he does. He is very good however at sealing the edge, and has excellent speed to power, which is good for rushing the QB as well so that versatility could be utilized. we also have to point out that players going into the NFL, there is a clear adjustment that has to happen. For some players they jump right in and are effective. others need more time to get on the field, for others, many years even... Ryan Anderson didn’t play much from what I saw this past season as he was still learning... when the dude gets on the field, and gets comfortable, he can be dominant, we’ve seen it at the highest collegiate level. We have to have faith in these picks and sort of believe in their talent if we want to built effectively. to me Zach Brown is a major piece. Getting Trent Murphy back this year will be crucial as well.

True. Kirk is money. Will the Bears pass on a Q Nelson or any other top tier talent to get him though with the WRs they already have? Cam Meredith, Kevin White? Who knows. They could trade back as well if one of those top QBs is avail with another team... Ultimately any QB run in the early first will push down top talent to 13 inevitably... skins sit in a great position. also it’s funny, I saw for the first time Lance Z’s rankings on NFL.com and he has Kirk as a 4th rounder...! Says he doesn’t have elite speed. Interesting. I guess we’ll see in a few weeks. He also had Ridley as top WR. Ridley is a 7.0 according to him while Kirk is a 5.6.

Agreed, Paris is fast. Kirk is already creeping into Saquon territory- SEC country has him going to Bears at 8! I think they’ll go with Ridley, a bit more traditional #1, but since we sort of have that type with Doctson, Kirk is the guy. Just watch, post combine we’ll be hoping he falls to 13. https://www.seccountry.com/sec/nfl-mock-draft-2018-first-round-picks-top-players-order-2018-nfl-draft-1-31#.WnIriq6nGpo

These picks are notable- obviously the team felt Moreau was read to take on more of the responsibly and hence the Fuller trade... right? Moreau had a 1st round grade but tore his pectoral muscle at his pro day, causing him to fall to the 3rd. the question I have is with Anderson- a lot of solid prospects were there last year second round, but Anderson wasn’t a flashy one and he was kind of a surprise. He fought some injury last season but didn’t do very much. Are these guys the future of the positions?

Fiest of all let just mention how much I appreciate this conversation. secondly, I hear ya and I think TE depth is interesting to think about. Here’s what we know: Reed’s concussion history is concerning, as well as his other multitude of injuries. Davis is still athletic however he is older (and already has rapport with Alex Smith from San Fran). I had heard Sprinkle is starting to come on... he was a good receiver in school... and niles P is a jack of all trades. but a Geodert, a Fumagalli, a Hurst, even an Akins could provide to be valuable depth as well. Just thinking tho we had to part ways with carrier last season... maybe a later round thing? I think Gesicki is gonna do well too.

Right on, yeah I mean I guess it really will come down to how all these players test... for sure there is deep WR talent there and the speed guy can be later rounds... Keke Coutee is another one... and this can translate into depth at the position and maybe eventually being a solid contributor... I’m just thinking we might need someone with HUGE upside when the opportunity is there. If we trade back in some scenario then I’m not opposed to adding a potential gamebreaking offensive asset. Watch his vs tape on YouTube, even against Bama, dude is ballin. Really I just don’t want him to go to Dallas. Yeah the move is probably adding the WR via FA, however not a lot of prospects there... some. Agreed we have solid youth at the WR position. also I’m not sure about adding TE depth, seems like Jordan Reed, being one of the best in the league, will have live up to his contract and get on the field, right? Davis still kickin and locked up for a few more years and with Niles P and Sprinkle, I think we’re set at TE tho for sure this is a strong class coming out.

Yeah I think he slipped a little last season, injuries were part of the problem, but look he’s like 6’3” and rangey and flies to the ball and is gonna be a starter in the league for sure. However I have seen other reports say that Jordan Whitehead is a better prospect...could be had later... there aren’t a lot of safeties tho overall... seems like with Monte and DJ and still holding out hope for Su’a... safety isn’t too thin?

Im extremely interested in seeing how Christian Kirk tests at the combine. Dude was a gamebreaker in the SEC. it seems like this offense needs someone to take the top off the D, a la DeSean, and he could be Tyreek-esque. Vicious punt returner as well. I know some had him very high on their big board at one point before A&M’s offense went sour. Again Kiper and McShay basically agreed that Ridley and Kirk are the only WRs in the top tier and Kirk has ODB upside, it’s true. which reminds me, Kyle Allen again seems like a great candidate for developmental QB and he might go undrafted; he and Kirk had great rapport. Hopefully tho Bruce doesn’t call him Christian Kurt lol

Here’s Mel and Todd discussing Smith/Cousins, QB class post senior bowl and DL depth: https://t.co/gl2OTmuuNk a couple points that stand out: QB class got deeper after the senior bowl... the top tier of WRs is only two- Kirk and Ridley. DL depth could extend into early second round with names like Settle, Trenton Thompson, Lotulelei, and maybe even Taven Bryan, Rasheem green etc. Might be a top tier RB at our 2nd round pick as well...? Not Bryce love tho, he was my fave: RJ2 Michel Chubb also tossing in that i agree, adding Q Nelson would be worth staying put at 13, augmenting any later round RB scoopage a la bo Scarborough... imagine that. Not sure of Bo’s Pass pro but has height and athletic ability and rare freakish speed/size combo. Let’s see how these RBs test later this month!! Also John Kelly sleeper. RB talent is kinda deep.

With the Smith trade, it actually puts the team more in the drivers’ seat come April: they sign AS Cheaper than Cousins, who if nothing else is an savvy veteran who understands how to play the position. cousins gets set free to the league and one of the teams picking in front of the skins will *probably* scoop him and arguably overpay for him, thus freeing at least one top tier QB prospect to be sitting right around 13. The skins could take that QB and still develop them over the next two years or so. or buffalo or jacksonville etc might have their eye on someone and the skins are in a great spot to trade back... ahead of the cardinals... A late 1st round WR might be a consideration, or d line... Vea, Davenport maybe... with even one extra pick in late 1st or 2nd round there is talent avail at all levels of need, RB, DT, OG, CB, WR, QB even. You gotta figure that the team scouts saw something in the later round QB projects in Mike White, Kyle Lualetta (sp?) etc, with their senior bowl performances. They also probably saw that none of these prospects, at least the top prospects, that will be avail for the skins, are anywhere near ready to lead an NFL team, but with a vet who had a near MVP season, he could teach any of them well. Luke Faulk also has potential, and anyone remember Kyle Allen? Are we talking about him at all?? Many different ways to go to solidify the most important position for the franchise. more random thoughts: if we pass on Christian Kirk, we are going to regret it. Baby Beckham they say... could be a Tyreek hill type...!? A top tier pass catcher opposite Doctson will be crucial... he’s up there. RB: what about bo Scarborough in the 4th or so? Jaylon Samuels?? Kalen Ballage? John Kelly started over Kamara in the SEC and had some solid games. I dig the McKinnon idea too, now with more cap space we can go after some of these FAs, and when we do, we’ll have a better idea how this will all shake out obviously.
