Just a note, this article is from 2017.  It's all still true.

And Mug Night at the Grean Leaf was ...  well, not many who ever went really remember going at all....

I knew the article was dated.  Just assumed a lot of us really didn’t know too much about his background

Dan Quinn: From William & Mary to the Super Bowl

Like many in the coaching line, Dan Quinn started at the bottom, working 60-hour weeks and doing the dirty work. Even at his first stint, he showed the traits—no-nonsense grinder, quick learner, good communicator—that would eventually take him and the Falcons to the Super Bowl….

Is nobody concerned about any of these 3 QBs personality wise? I said before I want a culture shifting QB like Allen or Jackson and that goes far beyond what they do on the field (Herbert is a great QB, he isn't culture changing - neither is Lawrence and that's the difference). We know there are already concerns about Caleb's personality, Drake Maye is apparently a good kid who says stuff like "golly" but is very quiet and stoic and not vocal or passionate leader, and while Daniels is apparently jovial and approachable he's not the most fiery either. We need someone that guys will want to run through a wall for.

One common theme from the players when they were cleaning out their lockers is they needed more vocal and passionate leaders - basically there are very few dawgs on the team. Dotson, Leno, and Cosmi all said the same thing.

I was not anti-Howell but you very rarely saw him on the sidelines hyping up guys, bringing them together to give them encouragement, etc.

Excellent point.  If the QB is your franchise, he HAS to be the leader.  It’s an inherent duty of the position.

Good read from The Athletic's Randy Mueller:https://theathletic.com/5183201/2024/01/08/michael-penix-jj-mccarthy-cfp-final/?access_token=6846337

     Comparisons

For McCarthy, I see the upside of a Jim Kelly, if he were to be inserted into the K-Gun system of yesteryear’s Buffalo Bills. For younger readers, he’s a less polished C.J. Stroud, with major upside.

As for Penix, I’m dating myself again, but he reminds me of another Huskies great: He is a left-handed Warren Moon with an uncanny ability to throw the deep ball and instincts and touch that can’t be coached.

Penix has excellent vision downfield in identifying targets and reading coverage. His decision-making is solid, and because of his patience, he can let plays develop before he pulls the trigger. His anticipation and trust in his receivers and the system allow him to make some throws that are impossible to defend. You rarely see this at the college level. The word that best describes Penix for me is polished.

    Bottom line

Trying to predict how Penix and McCarthy will be picked without a complete evaluation is really difficult. Their talent tells me they are worthy of being top-10 picks, but that will be affected by the quality of the draft at other positions as well. With certainty though, a college game of this magnitude will carry more weight than almost any other in the eyes of coaches and scouts. Bright lights are a big part of any evaluation. Teams will decide who is the best fit for their systems. One player might be more polished, but the other might have more upside. The order of QB1 through QB5 in this class is about to get interesting in draft rooms across the NFL. Get your popcorn ready.

The moon-penix comp is a really good one.  Good eye

Are you aware Penix has tore his right ACL twice and had two surgeries on his throwing shoulder already?

Terry Allen had a nice run with us after his knee was destroyed and replaced twice.  Injuries happen.  I’d applaud his resilience instead of saying he’s an injury waiting to happen.  I mean….every player is

Penix Jr is one Myles Garrett or Nick Bosa sack away from retirement. Don't see why any team would take that kind of risk in the 1st round much less top 10

To be fair, aren’t all the QBs?  Or any player for that matter.  It’s a physical game and injuries happen

Tough call.  If we beat the Jets and lets say are out of the top 3 QB sweepstakes.

I am still digesting the Wrs but I think Nabers might end up #2 for me.  I love Bowers.  And I like Fashanu better than some others here.  Ditto Alt.

For example Nabers versus Bowers versus Fashanu -- I don't have a strong opinion either way.

    Lets say we pick 6

    Bears -- Caleb Williams

    Pats -- Drake Maye

    Cards -- Marvin Harrison

    Jets -- Fashanu

    Giants -- Daniels

    Washington

That's my best guess that would leave Alt, Nabers, Bowers. If you put a gun to my head I'd take Bowers but its close.  I'd trade down if I could.

Good depth at WR with Oduzne, Legete, mayne Coleman in a trade down.  Ditto at RT with Mims, Fauga, Latham, Morgan, Guyton.

Given that draft scenario, agree 100% the pick should be bowers.  However, I’m only taking bowers after I’ve solicited our pick for a swap, 2d or 3d and next years 1.  Once and or if we’re  out of the top 5, I think it cements Sam as the qb moving forward and the more picks we can accumulate to build around him the better

Wait wait wait… Guys guys guys!! Has Ron announced that we are eliminated from playoff contention yet!?   Nooo I didn’t think so.  Any talk of our pick is really premature at this point.  I’m going wait until I hear Ron tell me we have been eliminated before I get my hopes up about an early first round draft pick.

    sheeesh.

In all fairness, you ain’t wrong.  😕

buttttt….from the looks of everything, it appears off-season plans are made.  We don’t have anyone vying for bonus pay realistically.  Annnnnd, we’re the get right team.

I think we’re done.  It shows and it’s not cool to see
