DC9
Just saw this retweeted... Koolblue13
I'm telling anyone who will listen that Kelley is going to have a say.that's my guess too. I have little faith in Jones. I also think CT is going to be very active. Yeah, I was just telling someone (as I was typing out the secondary) that we're probably going to be cutting Greg Toler. Crazy right? that's just nuts. There was a coming home story about him and I'm kind of pulling for him, but there just isn't any space to spare. AlvinWaltonIsMyBoy
Our WRs look great on paper. I'm thinking that somebody from that young group is gonna push Grant or Ross for a roster spot. I think Gruden is a big fan of Grant, mostly because coaches love guys who run the right routes and are consistently where they're supposed to be. With the new touch back rule, a guy like Ross could lose his luster. I'm a fan of Reggie Diggs, he certainly looks the part. Either way, it's awesome to see so much potential from this group. Just a couple of years ago, it was so bad that I thought Devery Henderson had an outside chance to make the roster. That was until he showed up to camp weighing about as much as Ribs. Shanny cut him first day because he was afraid he might hurt himself. The times they are a changin'.
Koolblue13
Our TEs look incredible too. 4 potential starters. Remember Paul beat Reed out a couple years ago. Say what you want about Jones and CT, but those two are very good catching the football too. DJax automatically holds a safety deep. Reed, Davis and Paul in there and Jones behind the line. I mean, is that a power rushing formation or is it putting 5 good receivers out there? I love the potential of this team. So much better than recent years, when our potential was all invested in UDFA, probably injured DBs or back up QBs.

Panamon28
So one open roster spot right now......best guess is that we add a veteran RB to compete with all of the young guys that we have now. Also important to remember that Jones, Thompson and Marshall have all missed a fair amount of time in college/pros due to injury so we could end up relying on an UDFA if injuries hit the position. Our roster is set up to be a pass heavy team, but it would still be nice to have one proven commodity at RB on the roster. Don't get me wrong - I hope that one of the UDFA young RBs on the team shine in training camp - but I think that its a gamble not to have a Plan B. Assuming that we add another RB, the likely FA choices would be Pierre Thomas or Joique Bell since both can play 3 downs. I wonder though if SM would try to pick someone up in a trade. KC, for example, is sitting on four RBs who have experience (J.Charles, C.West, S.Ware, K.Davis). With nine picks already in next year's draft, I can see us giving up a mid to late round pick to boost our RB depth. Fingers crossed that one of our UDFAs step up....but I'd feel better with one experienced back-up.

We would be on the hook for a vested veteran's contract if he's on that initial 53. I'd love to trade for Knile Davis, too. I don't see it. Not with an extremely deep draft class next year at running back.

Not with an extremely deep draft class next year at running back. Agreed. I think the FO is looking at MJones to carry the load, with CThompson as a change of pace. I think they are hoping that Kelley/Marshall can become the backup guy, though I am on record as not being as high on Marshall as most. I give Kelley the inside track there. If it doesn't shake out, PThomas is on speed dial. Also worthy of note, we've kept Mack Brown around for a while. I'm pretty sure he's been on and off the practice squad, but he might get a look as a one year stopgap/backup until we draft another back.
Conn
Knile Davis is not very good. That's why he's been passed by Charcadrick West and Spencer Ware despite at one time being the clear backup to Charles. He's very straight-linish, upright, and not very agile. Actually, if Jones doesn't work out here it will be because his weaknesses are too similar to what's held Knile Davis back.
Mr. Sinister
Our WRs look great on paper. I'm thinking that somebody from that young group is gonna push Grant or Ross for a roster spot. I think they might end up battling for the last spot, and Id rather have Ross. Grant is like Jerry Rice in these camps and practices the way Gruden talks about him, but is barely even ordinary even for a 5th/6th option. Ross can at least take the top off the defense with hiss speed.

Fingers crossed that one of our UDFAs step up....but I'd feel better with one experienced back-up. Larry Michael has said several times on his show that he thinks the Skins will not be looking to sign any veteran RB before training camp starts. The team wants to first give their young RBs a good shot to make the roster. Michael further says that when final cut down comes, there will be more good veteran RBs available on waivers than one can shake a stick at. I think Michael is right. Hardly any team keeps more than 4 RBs any more, and rarely do teams draft a RB high. It would make no sense to use up a draft choice to trade for a RB at this point. You say it would be nice to have one proven commodity at RB. Why is Matt Jones not one? He already has a year under his belt. Assuming he doesn't put the ball on the ground, he is plenty proven as far as I am concerned. You also need to remember that there are very few older "proven" RBs worth a damn any more. Most RBs are regarded to be over the hill as they near 30. Even a good RB nowadays have a career not much longer than 5-6 seasons. So, I am not the least bit concerned about how young the Skins RB corp is. If you want to worry about something, worry about the Skins Dline. But, I believe he is the fastest WR on the roster except for DJax. With DJax's cap numbers and age, it is problematic whether he would be here beyond this season. So, unless one of the younger WRs step up to show his ability to stretch the field, Ross could be kept around for at least another year to see how things shake out after 2016. It's quite a stretch to call Matt Jones a proven commodity......490 yds, 3.4 ypc average, 5 fumbles last year - and only 1 college season with more than 400 yds rushing. Don't get me wrong - I hope Jones becomes an 1200 yd, 10 TD back this year - but it would be nice to have someone more proven to fall back on if Jones doesn't develop as hoped, or gets banged up. I like Thompson as a 3rd down back, but he 's not built to take on the lead back role if Jones were to be injured. I agree that it would be GREAT to pick up a difference maker at DLine - but I can't see that happening at this point in the offseason. I think that we'll use a high draft pick (or two) next year to strengthen the DLine as SM continues to add depth/talent. Don't forget the context of the post - who/what position will we sign with our 90th roster spot. I think that RB and FS are the two positions with the least amount of proven depth. I assume that the Skins will add a player in the next couple of days so they can get to camp by day 1 - so we'll know soon enough!

I believe the prevailing thought is that DJax will be re-signed and Garcon will be allowed to walk. I'm sure a lot of that depends on the performances this year. Next year is a huge year in terms of potential roster turnover. I do know that Ross was being "groomed" to take over the DJax routes the last year or two. I'm not sure kickoff rules are going to change the amount of players you keep on teams, though. You're still going to need someone back their to field the kicks and you're not going to be putting one of your starters in that position (ideally).
