Sacks 'n' Stuff
Looking for projects that kids can do (some of them as young as 6 years-old) The theme is providing opportunities to other children in neighborhoods or communities where they are not as abundant. Looking for things like... * Organize a fun activity (bowling party, flag football game, etc) for kids at the local youth shelter * Run an equipment drive then donate the gear * Create spirit packs with cards and gifts for special olympians

Redskin4ever
Kickball. It takes very little equipment and kids of all skills can participate. You can have families bring all kinds of equipment for donations, not just kickballs/soccer balls.
daveakl
Laps for _________ (insert tagline) Basically the kids get pledges of $x for every lap they can walk/run around a field (we do a 1/8th mile lap) from as many people as possible. Use the money raised to purchase equipment for shelters and after school programs.

Use the money raised to purchase equipment for shelters and after school programs. That's very much along the lines of what I'm thinking except the service project replaces the laps. Kid does a service project > we create a webpage for them to share their good work > friends and family can support their efforts with donations > that money goes to provide additional opportunities to economically disadvantaged children. dfitzo53
What about fixing up peoples' old bikes to donate to families in need? You might even be able to get a local bike shop or sporting goods store to donate bike helmets to go with them or their time/expertise in terms of whatever maintenance is needed. They do the same type of thing with wheelchairs for people that can't afford them. Just as easy as working on a bike. Might be a bit boring for a kid though. gbear
Special Olympic's coach or volunteer. Just having somebody to work with them one on one can be huge. I remember volunteering and helping a special Olympics soccer team. Also, if old enough, just going to shelters and day cares for play time can be huge. The exposure for the kids helps all sides.
