Culliver Released

All hail St. McCloughan Patron Saint of Decimated Franchises!

Fuller might not be healthy for a bit, so who knows there. They have Dunbar, Blackmon, and Toler holding it down until he is. But the great thing here is that St. Scot saw he wasn't worth it, immediately, he did not force the issue because of his contract, his ego or what have you.

I wonder if they try to bring him back on a cheaper deal?

I doubt it cuz he's kinda been squeezed out. Provided he's healthy, by next season, he can find a better situation if he wants to play. He surely thinks he's better than a 3rd or 4th corner.

The writing was on the wall once you combined Norman's big deal with Culliver's clause that removed all his guaranteed money.

Norman and Breeland your starters

Toler and Blackmon as your vet backups

Dunbar, Everett, and Fuller competing as your young depth.

If he'll come back on a cheaper contract I'd welcome him happily, as he'd be better than Toler or Blackmon.

Smart having a clause to void guaranteed money for a suspension, when in all likelihood he was going to be suspended. Fuller is the obvious nickel when healthy. If he isn't, I thought Dunbar was playing well by the end of the season. Blackmon was playing good as well. So much depth in that area. Maybe they won't have to sign Cary Williams before the playoffs :P

That's a solid group of corners.

They mentioned a move to Safety at some point and he's younger than D Hall for sure. Maybe he comes back on the cheap as Safety depth and could move to CB if needed due to injuries.

I would think a move to safety is several years down the line.

GMSM Just announced Culliver's release.  So who do you think gets the work?  Is Fuller penciled immediately?  Who gets first shot?  Looks like we save 5.5 mil?

Fuller is still rehabbing from a bad knee injury.

The #3 corner is probably Dunbar, with Blackmon waiting in the wings.  If Fuller looks healthy enough, then Toler might not make the squad.  I doubt Fuller contributes much for the first half of the season.

Super surprising for me considering we still have Roberts on the roster.  I thought you can't release a player while injured.

That what my thinking as well.

A bit surprised by the move, most probably by the timing zvzn if releasing him soon allow him to find other options before TC.

I think we could release Roberts right now too, but we'd save $1 million more if we cut him after June 1st.

With the addition of Norman and Breeland's growth (and future contract), retaining Culliver at $8MM a pop was too much money at one position. Fuller, and some combination of Toler, Blackmon and Dunbar can fill the 3-4-5 CB roles. I agree with the posts above though - I wouldn't mind seeing Culliver come back either - but it has to be in the $3-4MM range, given his injury history.
