NOTES ON THE REDSKINS’ OVERALL DRAFT

· The Redskins made seven selections in the 2016 NFL Draft. Dating back to 2011, the Redskins have now selected at least seven players in six consecutive drafts for the first time since the league adopted the seven-round format in 1994.

· The Redskins made three trades during the draft, including one during Day 1 on Thursday and two during Day 3 on Saturday. With the trades, the Redskins tentatively enter the 2017 NFL Draft with nine selections.

· On Thursday, the Redskins traded their first-round pick (No. 21 overall) to the Houston Texans in exchange for Houston’s first-round pick (No. 22 overall) and a 2017 sixth-round pick.

· On Saturday, the Redskins traded their fourth-round pick (No. 120 overall) to the New Orleans Saints for New Orleans’ fifth-round pick (No. 152 overall) and a 2017 fifth-round pick. Later in the day, the Redskins traded their fifth-round pick (No. 158 overall) to the New York Jets for a 2017 fourth-round pick.

· The three trades completed by the Redskins during the 2016 NFL Draft were the team’s most during a draft since 2011 (four).

· The Redskins acquired four players in picks acquired by trade: WR Josh Doctson, DE Matt Ioannidis, QB Nate Sudfeld and LB Steven Daniels. Sudfeld was selected with a pick acquired during the 2015 NFL Draft, and Daniels was selected with a pick acquired during the 2015 offseason.

· This marks the third consecutive year the Redskins have made four selections with picks acquired by trade.

· The Redskins did not draft a pair of college teammates in 2016. Entering the 2016 NFL Draft, the Redskins had selected college teammates in the same year in four of the previous five drafts from 2011-15 (Nebraska’s Roy Helu, Jr., DeJon Gomes and Niles Paul in 2011; SMU’s Josh LeRibeus and Richard Crawford in 2012; Florida State’s Chris Thompson and Brandon Jenkins in 2013; Arkansas’ Martrell Spaight and Tevin Mitchel in 2015).

· The Redskins made multiple selections in Round 7 for the first time since 2014. It marks the 12th time the Redskins have made multiple seventh-round picks since the league moved to the seven-round format in 1994 (1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014).

· All seven of the Redskins’ draft picks played their collegiate careers in the Football Bowl Subdivision, marking the fourth straight year the team’s entire draft class had played at the FBS level. The last Redskins draft pick to play in the Football Championship Subdivision was South Dakota’s Tom Compton (2012).

· The Redskins selected at least one player from each of the “Power Five” conferences (in order of selection: Big 12, Pac-12, ACC (two), Big Ten and SEC) and one player from the American Athletic Conference.

The team’s three first-round selections from the Big 12 (LB Brian Orakpo, QB Robert Griffin III and T Trent Williams) have earned eight combined Pro Bowl selections.

· With Doctson’s selection, the Redskins have now selected players from Legacy H.S. in Mansfield, Texas, in consecutive drafts. The Redskins selected Doctson’s high school teammate, CB Tevin Mitchel, in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
