Really does say a lot about the power of todays media. Very interested to see how they handle this.

Brady vilified for having air taken out of a football (allegedly).
Cam vilified for being upset in an interview after losing the biggest game of his career.

Surely the darling of the media can't get away with it again just like he did with the HGH story. The protection he gets from the media just isn't right tbh.

Agree that what Peyton supposedly did was disgusting and he should've gotten in trouble at the time for it.

However, in a time where a day doesn't go by with us hearing about the latest Johnny Manziel knuckleheaded thing, unless its ever shown that Manning continuously sexually assaulted women, this close-to-20 year old incident likely isn't going to move the needle.

I think you're slightly missing the point though.

The alleged assault is obviously horrible. But I think what Peyton and his dad did to this woman after the alleged incident is even worse. Completely ruining her career.

I don't think Manziel is a fair comparison to Peyton either. If Manziel was a perceived model citizen like Peyton is and something like this came out about him, the media would be all over it. As something happens with Manziel practically every week nobody really cares anymore.

If he lies about this then who is to say he didn't lie about the whole HGH allegation. Opens up another can of worms entirely.

Up to the media whether they make a big deal of this or not but I do think at some point, he will have to answer for his actions and own up to them.

Manning sounds like he was a massive douche...when he was 19. Like a lot of rich spoiled 19 year olds.

The timing of this is also strange. Why now, right after he just won a Super Bowl?

The timing is due to Shaun King, who's basically done nothing but make race relations worse, being mad over the way Cam Newton was talked about after his post game presser. It sucks that he's the one who relayed this because he's such an smarmy douche.

With that said, it doesn't paint an pretty picture for Peyton. It's sad what happened to the doctor and it sucks the way the Mannings treated her. This isn't okay at all.

Didn't they already prove that the story put out about his HGH use was false? I thought the person recanted their story...

No surprises here..

Dennis and Callahan ‏@DandCShow

I was just told by a current ESPN anchor that all ESPN employees were told not to report or discuss the Daily News story on Peyton Manning.

Can't have him angry at espn, especially when they want him on all their NFL coverage next year.

Manning is one of the most classiest and concillatory players to ever wear a NFL uniform in modern time. Yet he is constantly the victim of egregious attack. At first it was the lack of playoff success. Then it was the HGH. Then it was the commercialism. How dare he sell out to Papa Johns and Budweiser. How dare he kiss Papa John.

To me this all seems ridiculous IMO. Manning is a great of the game, and he is going to the HoF. If he were acting like a dick, sure, I'd bash him too just like everyone else. I'm not going to say I know him because I've never met him personally. But everything I have read and seen about him, there is absolutely nothing that indicates that he isn't anything but one of the most classy players to play the game.

I remember reading a story about Manning against the Ravens. After the Ravens had stunned the Broncos in overtime, Manning could have easily done his press duties and gone home. He could have stewed over the loss. But he was still there, several hours after the game, and he went into the Ravens locker room to meet up with Ray Lewis. He brought his family, his baby son, his wife, and they mingled with Ray and they had nothing but positive things to say about his final run. To me, that really showed what a guy Manning is. To stay after the game had ended, to congratulate and show how much you admire your opponent, that is the sign of class.

I'm not saying this didn't happen or anything like that, but I always question when its brought up way after the fact. Just seems shady. A lot of big time celebs get caught in the "alleged sexual assault" web and it turns out to be BS.

I feel the same. I don't know him personally, so I can't say it's true or not, but the daggers always come out after a superstar wins a major event. I'll let the story take its course. If it amounts to anything, we'll hear about it again; if not, it's forgotten anyway.

Not really.  This story has come out before.  It just gets more attention each time it comes out as social media gets stronger every day.  This isn't a new finding.

If you read the article, the writer goes into how he came across this. Explains the timing.

If it was an agenda driven hit piece, it would have come out the week before the Super Bowl. Not the week after when nobody is paying attention to football anymore.

Where do you come up with this bull**** from?

Yeah poor Peyton has been constantly victimized his whole career. Not the NFL golden boy. Not being protected because he's Archie's kid. No no he's a victim.

That's why the sexual assault allegation, which was public knowledge for more than a decade, was known by maybe 1% of NFL fans. That's why the article written, which was nothing more than a reminder as to what the allegations were, was so eye opening to so many people.

But yeah he's a victim.

I mean from recent memory Manning is one of the most distinguished and classy individuals to ever play the game. So it boggles the mind why we redditors are so brash to accuse, and tear him down.

I call it "Amy Schumer Syndrome". If you're a celebrity, people are going to just come after you. And I'm tired of it.

Listen, I don't know the lad, I've never spoken to him in my life. But I can tell you without a tinge of doubt that the boy is one of the classiest individuals that comes across on the field. And is part of it due to a massive PR campaign that makes him seem such? Could he really be a monster like Joe Pa, another guy who the media built up as a STRONG GOOD MORAL MAN who really wasn't? Maybe. But until more concrete evidence comes out, and more recent stories come out (the article in question is from several decades ago!) I'm not going to jump to any conclusions here.

So forgive me for not having the rash trigger finger to react outrageously to old-ass news.

Edit: I didn't downvote you, it's valentines day. i'm upvoting Everyone.

One- are you copy/pasting your own Reddit comments onto here? This is not Reddit.

Two- is the content you are copying even yours?

Three- I'm not sure what your argument is and I don't think you know either. Your first post was about unfairly targeting Peyton. I demonstrated how ludicrous that notion is, and your response basically said that you are a fan of Peyton's public persona, but acknowledge that you don't personally know "the lad."

The problem with that is that the only thing this article brings into question is the public persona itself. The actual allegations are old news. What is also in question is how the Mannings (and apparently the NFL) were able to protect Peyton's reputation after these allegations. It's clear to me that few other athletes would be as insulated as he has been. Not just a racial thing either. Brady, for instance, would have seen his reputation severely tarnished by a sexual assault allegation.

Last night i was thinking the same thing until I did a bit of deductive reasoning, realized that FB had only been around for a few months when this event occurred and most folks did not even have a computer, let alone internet access. Then I took time to actually read the 74 page court document, not just focus on Shaun King's possible agenda, which I cover below.

Because once you read the 74 page court document you can't possibly come away from it and think Peyton is innocent.  Actually you come away with the understanding that Peyton dodged a grenade. One he threw himself by the way based upon a belief that said it was okay to act in that manner.  The woman had a doctorate. She was not a kid. She had an impeccable reputation and you have to ask yourself how many of Peyton's teammates backed his poorly crafted story? None. How many of her colleagues backed Peyton's perception of her?  None.  None of his teammates nor any of the student athletes or her colleagues went along with Peyton's depiction that she had a vulgar mouth/  Clearly none of them was willing to go along with his fabricated story at any price.  Those were young men of character. They did the right thing.

When I think of the money and the settlement with the University of Tennessee you had to figure she lost out financially big time They paid her a pittance. It was lost wages based on merit. She had to start over. Everything is money in the world of collegiate and professional sports. We all know that. Of course the school chose the athlete over the staff member. Again the truth is none of Peyton's allegations about her were corroborated or this would have had a very different ending. Most of us understand that.

On another note, Shaun King's timing was despicable IMO, and agenda based.   He in part wrote that article to say being a white athlete has its privilege and the media protects them but the same is not true for black athletes. That the media goes out of their way to depict black athletes in a negative way.  In this case Cam Newton. And Cam, make no mistake, has the emotional I.Q. of a 5 year old child in need of a nap. So King threw the race card out which IMO undercut everything that could have been achieved with his well written article.  Had he waited until say the Combine or Peyton's retirement announcement to bring it all up you could say it was good journalism. But NO. He was going to sell the perceived double standard and how the media purposively neglected to show what a great sport Cam really was because he hugged Peyton and said, "good game." So he hugged Peyton after the game. So what.  It was his only class move in the whole game.  The truth is Cam acted like a narcissistic spoiled brat by throwing a tantrum on the sidelines and then at the podium after the game on national T.V.

And Peyton Manning?  Read the court document.

And then there is the book Peyton wrote with his father Archie and the ghost writer.  They dredge up the whole affair again to manipulate public perception. They all knew full well he had signed an NDA and was bound to abide by it.  Peyton also knew full well that NONE of his former teammates or other student athletes in other departments at the University of Tennessee supported his story ever.  He had not one supporter.  For me personally it is a guy who was going to arrogantly continue to play charades with all of us.

Timing of the article aside, appears the story is true.  As Morrison pointed out, what the heck was Manning thinking about not only putting the incident in the book, but rub the victim's face in it.  He could have just not put it in the book and probably nothing would have happened.

Seems like the victim in all this is Dr. Jamie Naughright.  She never really got justice.  Had to deal with the actual assault than had to read about it years later in a book.  Had to get fired from two different jobs for doing nothing wrong, and have her image tarnished.  She seems like the one who is really classy and professional.

That the story came alive now is purely agenda driven.  I doubt Dr. Naughright wants to bring this up again.
