2016 National League East Division Champion: Washington Nationals Thread

Time to turn the page and move on from an extremely disappointing 2015--from an injury plagued, thud of a regular season, to missing on several targeted Free Agents, and still having Papelbon on the roster.

There is a lot of talent on this team--but we are underdogs once again--let everyone celebrate the Mets, Cubs, Giants, even the D-Backs. No one wins the World Series in January.

New season, new hope, can't wait for Spring Training! Let's Go Nats!

Ian Desmond working on a deal with the Padres, per MLBTV.

We fleece them for their star SS of the future and they get stuck having to overpay for our inconsistent(to put it nicely)offense SS who can't field.

Its weird that D.C. teams now all of a sudden have such shrewd FOs.

I had a friend complaining about that deal at the time, thinking we would need Souza b/c of Werth's shoulder. He was definitely right about the injury situation, but Souza is going to be nothing but a 4th/5th OF, and we netted a #2/#3 starter and prototype leadoff hitter.

Mark my words, Turner will steal 40+ bases in the very near future.

good spot, I can root for him from afar

If he does sign, I will be there July 22nd to give him a standing O at his 1st AB. He struggled this past year--but the guy never complained, never whined, never made excuses. He is a class act and true professional. His character, if not his bat, will be missed.

I'm gonna miss him snatching helmets off of players heads. Hopefully someone continues that tradition.

It might have been in the other thread before this one was started, but did anyone notice that we signed Stephen Drew to be the bench infielder?

Yes, there was the typical "rabblerabblerabble...we need OUTFIELDERS!!!! ZOMG!!!11!" outrage...well from at least one poster.

Okay, I missed it.  I stopped reading that thread for this one and saw no mention.  He's not a bad bench guy, in my opinion.

He's an upgrade over Uggla--which isn't saying much. He hit 17 HRs, and had descent July and August last year. However, if he has to start for extended periods of time--like Uggla did--we're ****ed

Here is something particularly interesting about Murphy. Look at his home/road splits 4 of the last 5 years:

2015:

Home: .251/.290/.417

Road: .310/.351/.480

2014:

Home: 250/.301/.351

Road: .322/.359/.447

2013:

Home: .263/.298/.381

Road: .308/.338/.447

2012:

Home: .322/.361/.440

Road: .262/.305/.369

2011:

Home: .313/.363/.413

Road: .325/.361/.476

Daniel Murphy is wearing uniform 20. #Nationals #MLB

Great presser with Murphy. Seems very excited to be here. Seemed very eager to hit in the same lineup as Bryce.

Will be strange to see #20 without Desmond on the back though. At least at first.

We'll get used to it when the errors come! :)

I missed the PC, but I did see this quote: "Negotiations were swift. This was the place where I wanted to be," he said. "Both sides felt this was a good fit and the right fit for both of us."

For all the FAs that have spurned us for whatever reason--I really want someone that wants to be here--and not just for the paycheck. We've seen many of those types come and go in the his town--one very heavy, scumbag of a human being is still ****ing about it--I am excited about Murph. I know he has his limitations, but if he approaches those road splits outside of Citi Field, we'll get over it!
