Florida College Student Charged With Murder For Allegedly Killing Couple, Eating Victim’s Face

A 19-year-old Florida State University student was having dinner with his family Monday night in Tequesta, Florida, when he got angry, stormed out of the restaurant, killed two people, then ate a victim’s face, officials said.

Austin Harrouff was charged on Friday with first degree murder, attempted murder, and burglary, the Associated Press reported.

The sheriff’s office released a video Friday showing Harrouff calmly walking out of the restaurant moments before police responded to a 911 call of a stabbing attack and arrived to find the teen biting off part of a dead man’s face in the driveway of a Tequesta couple’s home, officials said. The man’s wife was found dead in the garage and a neighbor suffered multiple stab wounds.

Harrouff was taken to a nearby hospital where he remained in an unconscious state. Police and hospital workers have completed some tests, but have not yet found any evidence of drug use.

“He had no criminal record … he was a good kid,” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told reporters Tuesday, adding that Harrouff had no apparent relationship to his victims and that the attack seemed to be “completely random.”

Fox 4 Investigation: Southwest Florida sex offender lists Walmart as home address

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.  - A 4 in Your Corner investigation finds a registered sex offender officially listed as living at a Southwest Florida Walmart.

The man was convicted of using a computer to lure children for sex.  One of Walmart's employees even recognized the sex offender but couldn't tell us much about him.

But he's not here because of all the great markdowns. Instead, he's a registered sex offender.

...

Jones listed his status as "transient", or homeless, and registered his main home address as the Lehigh Walmart.

We asked the manager on duty about it.  He told Fox 4 that "he knew nothing about Jones living there" and promised he "will tell his store manager" and they will "take action".

Tampa Bay cities still assessing how much sewage overflowed after Hurricane Hermine

Tampa wastewater officials said Wednesday that Hurricane Hermine's heavy winds and rain led to 1.7 million gallons of raw and partially treated sewage to overflow from the city's system into the bay.

That brings the official total of sewage that last week's storm spilled into Tampa Bay to 30 million gallons — and that figure will only grow.

She wanted her ex to be a ‘sex slave’ before hiring a hitman, cops say

BY MARC R. MASFERRER AND JESSICA DE LEON

Bradenton Herald

BRADENTON, FLA.

Rachael Natalie Leahy, the Manatee County woman charged with trying to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband, wanted him gone so she could have custody of their children, but maybe he didn’t have to die. Maybe, she told an undercover detective she thought was a killer for hire, he could be “kidnapped and taken to other country and made into a sex slave.”

There also may have been a second person on her hit list.

After rejecting the sex slave idea as unrealistic, Leahy, 34, paid the undercover detective a total of $2,500, half of the $5,000 she agreed to pay to have her 59-year-old ex-husband killed, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said .

Depending how that went, Leahy also told the detective she might have another “job” for him.

Leahy was arrested Thursday.

On Friday, Leahy appeared before a Manatee County Judge Robert Farrance for an initial hearing. Farrance set her bond at $100,000 with the conditions that she also be placed on supervised release, wear an ankle monitoring device, surrender her passport, surrender any weapons or firearms and have no contact with her ex-husband.

“I agree to all the stipulations, your honor, but I can’t do a bond that high,” Leahy said.

Leahy told Farrance she was on food stamps, occasionally stayed with a male friend and didn’t have a job but sometimes did auto detailing to earn gas money.

Assistant State Attorney Darlene Ragoonanan had asked for a $1 million bond, in addition to all the conditions, because Leahy had plans to leave the country at the time of her arrest, she said.

“During the investigation, it was discovered that she had plans to leave the country today out of Miami and not return next Friday,” Detective Angel Posada-Wilcher said in court Friday.

At the time of her arrest, Leahy had her passport with her and had her bags packed and ready to go, he added.

Police say, ‘Challenge accepted' to Tampa man's ‘Catch Me If You Can' Facebook post

TAMPA, Fla. - A 24-year-old Tampa man wanted on numerous criminal charges was in jail Wednesday after making a Facebook post daring investigators to find him, the Tampa Police Department said.

Cameron Cox was wanted on charges of dealing in stolen property, two counts of giving false information on a pawnbroker form, three counts of burglary, grand theft and petit theft.

Apparently knowing the police were looking for him, so far unsuccessfully, Cox pulled out all the stops and made a post on his public Facebook page.

He posted the cover photo for the Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio movie, “Catch Me If You Can” with the caption: “F--- it. Might as well have some fun with this. LOL.”

Officers tracked down and arrested Cox at a South Manhattan Avenue McDonald’s on Sept. 20, two weeks after he made his Facebook post.

i was just coming here to add that story :)

Quote

According to the Florida Sun Post, the couple - who have requested to remain anonymous - came to the startling discovery while looking through the 68-year-old’s photo albums, which included pictures of his first wife and their children. His 24-year-old wife instantly recognized one of the children as her estranged father, who she says kicked her out of the house when she was a teenager after she’d accidentally gotten pregnant.

could you get more Jerry Springer than that....?

I remember a former co-worker called in a bomb threat so she didn't have to go to work on time.  They caught her through the gas station video feed; where she made a call from a pay phone.  This was a decade ago; so still had pay phones then.

GPD: Women vandalize home with duct tape, animal feces

Two Gainesville women were arrested Saturday afternoon after police said they broke into the home of an acquaintance and vandalized the bedroom using duct tape and animal feces, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.

Police said Nikki Rowena Sismanidis, 18, and Jasmine Marie Suarez, 19, both of whom reside at 1000 SW 62nd Blvd., allegedly broke into the Southwest Ninth Way home of a common friend.

Once inside, the pair allegedly placed strips of duct tape on the victim’s bedroom walls, which caused damage to the painted walls when later removed, the report said. Also, a large portion of one wall was covered in a pattern using duct tape that spelled out an expletive and police said the pair planted animal feces on the victim's bed.

The victim told police that Sismanidis has become hostile in the past when she chooses not to hang out with her, and on the previous day, the victim did not respond to texts from Sismanidis asking the victim to hang out.

Dead man found inside SUV with pile of parking tickets on windshield

For four days, city parking officers slapped tickets on an SUV parked three blocks from the Broward County Courthouse. When Carolyn White noticed the pile of citations, she wondered what was going on. She stepped closer to the car to peek inside.

"Oh my God, please tell me this man is not dead," White thought.

Inside the Isuzu Axiom was the body of Jacob Morpeau, 62, of Miami. He was sitting in the driver's seat, and his upper body lay face down over the SUV's center console. His hand held a credit card, White said.

The Broward County Medical Examiner's office later said Morpeau had died from natural causes and had been ill with hypertensive cardiovascular disease. What's not known is how long Morpeau's body had been inside the Isuzu.

The medical examiner could not pinpoint the date of death.

The SUV was issued tickets from Nov. 12 through Nov. 15, the day Morpeau's body was found. Whether he was inside the Isuzu when the tickets were put on the windshield is also not known.
