GIF Breakdown: Cousins' Final Interception to Grant

Cousins was getting backed up by MLB #54 Stupar who wasn't picked up. Cousins definitley couldn't step up into the pass because the defender was there. Grant slipped, which Gruden repeated MULTIPLE times in his post-game interview.

If you watch the slowed down version when it switches to the WR view, notice that the CB was INSIDE Grant. Cousins was placing the ball to Grant's outside shoulder on the hitch route which is where it's supposed to be. Instead, Grant turns inside... why you may ask? IMO either Grant read it wrong or since Cousins had to throw it so early because of the pressure Grant didn't have time to turn and release to the ball. This combined with Grant slipping and the pressure on Cousins not allowing him to step into it is what caused the INT.

We didn't pick up the blitz which could have been a protection scheme issue.

Edit: By the way, if this breaks sub rules let me know. I can delete it. Just thought it was interesting to look at because of the misinformation.

Thank you, but people will still want Kirk drawn and quartered. Great effort by the team, short handed (DJax, Hall, Cully, Reed) on the road against a 4-0 team.

We shut down the 2nd highest scoring team in the league to 19 points, created turnovers and sacks. Nothing to be ashamed about.

Beat the Jets and Bucs and we're 4-3 going into the bye.

We'll win this game next year. We're just not quite there.

He did almost everything wrong, that can be done as a QB, on that pass. I watched it, and knew immediately, it was going to be bad.  If Kirk is our "guy" going forward, we need to strengthen our D, OL, and Special Teams.  We will need to to make up for our QB deficiency. He just cracks under pressure.  I hate it & wish is it was not so.  Hail

Bottom line is it is second down and eight in overtime you take the sack or throw it away it was a horrible pass. You can't turn the ball over and win a lot in the NFL.  Can't blame it all on Kurt horrible conservative redzone play calling. Jay just does not coach to win games.

Who's Kurt?

Your recent postings of the same stuff in multiple threads suggests otherwise.

Kirk has improved greatly from the last few seasons. I can and have admitted I was wrong about where his ceiling was, others have too, but some will stick to their opinion no matter what. No reason to think he can't continue to improve. Young QBs get rushed and make mistakes. Important thing is if they learn from it. We have all season to see. Making a final conclusion now is foolish. no good coach would count out a player so early like you're doing.

Last game and the drive to get us in FG range to send it to overtime this game, strongly suggest he's improving and that your summation is a gross oversimplification and overreaction.

Also, keep in mind.... 2nd and 8 at midfield. A savvy vet looks to throw that away or certainly put it somewhere that eliminate the possibility of a pick 6.

A learning experience for Kirk.

That too. It's just not a shock that this happens to Cousins. If that had been 3rd or 4th and something, OK fine. But it was totally unnecessary on 2nd and 8 at midfield. That's his fatal flaw.

He basically had no help today though. Nothing from the running game and nothing from the receivers. Jamison Crowder can't be your leading receiver every week. Nice complimentary player, but he's the go to guy now.

Because he sucks.......duh

And Manning just threw to a wide open defender in the endzone a few minutes ago. I guess he sucks too. You people want perfection and it aint going to happen. Get over it. Last year or this would have been 32 to 9. Right now who do you want instead of Cousins? WHO? Who's available?

I told everyone about Jamison Crowder. He is a player and will continue to be. The people all over Kirk should go and look at Joe Theismann's career stats.Look at his win and loss record, his touchdown to interception ratio and notice he was not the great quarterback we all remember until he had a great offensive line, great receivers, and a really good defense. Kirk is no different than where Joe Theismann start off. Give Kirk weapons, a good offensive line and he will be every bit as good as Joe.

if the WR ran the wrong route and slipped on the play, how are you blaming him on this particular play?

Is it confirmed the WR ran the wrong route? Besides Kirk stared Grant down the whole way. Alford jumped the pass before Grant even turned his head. He already knew where Kirk was going with the ball.

I was all pumped up and seriously seeing and believing in the upset until for some reason; and this can be corroborated by my son, who was sitting next to me--When they showed the close-up shot from the end zone of Kirk Cousins face as he was awaiting the last snap, I said out loud, "I have a bad feeling about this play." I don't know if it is just me, but when I saw Kirk's face as he was preparing to take that last snap, something guttural bellowed out of me. Three seconds later, call it coincidence, or whatever you like, but while almost in denial, I got to witness my fears actualized. I still root for Kirk, but for some reason we who support him are most likely all going to be ultimately disappointed. I know I can hear the 'give him time' crowd and I am for that, but truthfully not believing the starter for 2016 is on this team right now. Hail.

Grant runs a hook/curl route, which is why he faced inside. He falls/slips only after locating the ball going to the outside and trying to adjust. The fall/slip doesn't impact the pick, IMHO. Now, if he ran the wrong route (I doubt it because he's known as a precise route runner since day 1 of his rookie year), you can call it a miscommunication. Otherwise, I don't think the fall resulted in the pick.

Of 20+ years of watching football, I've never seen a WR lined up so close to the sideline run an out pattern by turning inside first.

the blitz was coming you throw it away or take the sack. Not a good throw.  I am a Cousins supporter he gives the team the best chance to win but bottom line he played sub par today at best to many overthrows and bad passes. Was he the sole reason the Redskins lost this game no. But, I would like to see him put a good string of games together where he just plays consistently

the over reaction is strong with this one.

seriously. its a week after he engineered a comeback like we almost never see around here.

and he drove down with 24 seconds for a game tying FG vs a 4-0 team in their house.

i have no idea if cousins is a future pro bowler, or just a guy, but the responses to this particular play are ridiculous.
