Kirk Cousins Overcomes Adversity In First Start

Recommended Posts

Wells it's apparently official - Kirk Cousins is the starter for the Washington Redskins - So:

I am and always will be a Redskins fan first. I really like Robert and hope he does well somewhere, maybe even still here if there is an injury and he gets back on the field (do not read that as hoping Cousins get's injured, not at all what I am saying.)

Having said that I am all in for Cousins. I am ready to support him as much as I supported Robert. I will say my main concern with him (I had main concerns about Robert - confidence and his inability to dodge direct hits) - consistency and bouncing back from adversity. He seems to have gotten past the adversity issue but let's see if he can maintain this level of play for several weeks in a row.

I am hoping he is awesome and helps us win some games. Hail to the Kirk Cousins era in Washington!   HTTR!!   Let's win some damn games for once!

I wonder if any other QB has been asked to do more than Kirk to prove he should start? Send RG3 to Oakland, he can high five Campbell on the way.

Let's not make this something it's not. Kirk absolutely deserves this chance and I wish him the best success. I hope he ends up the HOF! That would be great for us!

But it's not like he wasn't given other chances. He was given several other opportunities and came up woefully short. I hope this time is different., And there is reason to think it will be. He recovered from a bad Int and fumble to put in a nice game.

But let's also be honest about that. He had 2 picks dropped. His first TD was a gift and his 2nd TD was against mostly 2s. Again, I still think based his performance he definitely deserves the keys to the car. But it was not a flawless performance but any stretch of the imagination.

To me the most surprising thing is how quickly the annoucement came. I thought that they might drag this out with the typical, 'we're still evaluating' line. Not saying only the Redskins do this, it's something I am used to hearing.

I get the part about wanting to establish your team leader and such but wow. This is like the jury coming back after a 20 minute deliberation.

Anyway good luck to all. I would think that they would keep RGIII around even @ $16M this year but who knows? Scot let Matt Flynn walk after paying him a $10M signing bonus in favor of Wilson.

I commend Gruden and McCloughan for standing up to Snotty Nosed Snyder and run this damn team the way good football people should. Don't care if Gruden says SNS was on board with it....we all know the stupid **** that he has done to ruin this team. No more ''Yes Men'' (well maybe Allen) on board we got guys who are able to make the tough call and go with it.

I feel invigorated by this decision.

This decision has Scot written all over it. I really think Dan has been out of things longer than people realize. But this absolute proof positive that Dan is letting football guy be football. While I see being angry it took this long (I know I am), I also feel we need to give him just a little credit for finally seeing the light.

Again I wish Robert the best but I am all in for Cousins! Hope he does well.

One question - typically the starters do not play in preseason gm 4. Do you play Cousins and the 1s since he has not had much work with the 1s? I would, if only for a Q.

If they plan to trade Robert, look for an UDFA QB to be signed to play the second half of the gm. If not they will likely let McCoy play the entire game.

Just a few random thoughts.

Yeah I was wondering about that even before the announcement, no matter who that starter was going to be. None of these 3 QBs have spent much time on the field with the #1s. And Kirk did have a rough start last week.

I think they come out for a series and that's it, no matter how it goes. But that's just me. Don't want to see an injury but there are questions about how this offense is going to gel.

That's a great point about how the reps are going to get split. Obviously you can't put Griffin in with that $16M option injury clause ax hanging over the teams head. Maybe a UFDA like you said. Maybe a one day contract with a vet or something. Grossman got signed by Atlanta but he would be the type of guy I would look at.

Gruden said in yesterday's presser that Colt would play the whole game 4. But we all know that Kirk could use the extra work even though it would be against 2nd, 3rd stringers. Guess he should be given the same privillege that other starters around the league would recieve.

I think that Snyder has realized his reputation is at an all time low, he's double crossed enough coaches, pretended to know something about talent which he doesn't, and has meddled in the football side of his business for far too long. He had to relinquish his perverse attachment with being Griffin's buddy. Snyder is the most hated owner in the NFL from polls. I refuse to buy any products of the Redskins, don't buy tickets to games, and generally won't do anything to put a dollar in his pocket.

Glad there is closure to the Griffin era and I know he has enough money if he never plays again to have a good life. What I don't like is taking a roster spot for Griffin when we have so many other needs and so much fresh young talent that needs to be secured.

Again, I feel invigorated and justified in my opinion of Griffin over the past few years. I'm ready to not even speak of him anymore.

I am surprised they have not brought in a TC arm just for this week. That's what I would do. Just get a few day rental to play the second half.

You have to assume McCoy is the #2. If you are not starting Robert, again I think you need to cut him loose. If he gets injured and we eat $16M the **** storm from that will be like nothing we have ever seen.

Makes no sense to play Cousins this week. To sacrifice having your starting qb against opposing players who are desperate to get some film on themselves to impress a coach...nope, no way. But our whole team could really use another game and the experience of playing together. Chance of injury is too great for something that doesn't count. Give our guys a break like the other starters around the league.

If we're rolling with Cousins this year then IMO Cousins should play the entire game or at very least 3/4's of it. As well as all the rookie, 2nd & 3rd year O-linemen. They could all use the live action regardless of them playing against the Jags 2nd & 3rd teamers.

HTTR!!!

Hail Canada!!!  Was thinking about pinging you!  Good to see you!

I can see your point but I have to say I also worry about them playing against guys who would literally do anything to maker their team, including take a cheap shot at an established starter.

I could go either way on this one.

I get what you're saying, I really do. & to be honest I agree. But like you said, the team could use more game experience playing together & for me no other person could use the work more than Cousins. As you & I both know he has the habit of turning the ball over so the more reps he gets the better as far as I'm concerned. Obviously I don't want to put him in harms way but with risks comes rewards & I can't think of a better reward than to have Cousins play at a high level with relatively no turn overs.

HTTR!!!
