China
Navy Yard in Washington on lockdown after report of active shooter WASHINGTON — The Navy Yard, located less than a mile south of the U.S. Capitol, was placed on lockdown Thursday following an unconfirmed report of an active shooter, WUSA reports. There are no immediate report of casualties inside the 41-acre facility, which was the scene of a mass killing by a lone gunman in 2013. Police source tells WUSA reporter Nikki Burdine that Navy security has reported two shooters, but there has been no official confirmation of any gunman siighted. The U.S. Navy said on Twitter that a lockdown and shelter-in-place is in effect, but said no incident had yet been confirmed. U.S. Park Police, U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security officers quickly responded to the scene and local roads were closed. The Navy yard is located on the Anacostia River, south of the National Mall. The nearby U.S. Department of Transportation building was also placed on lockdown as a precaution. Police are tightly controlling the flow of pedestrians and traffic at the Navy Yard Metro Station. In 2013, a gunman shot who got into a building at the Navy Yard killed 12 people and injured three others. He was fatally shot by a Washington Metropolitan police officer. TheGoodBits
@SegravesNBC4: Navy Yard security has located the person who made the emergency call about a shot fired. They are interviewing that person now. Hopefully a false report.

Burgold
I thought there was a new development in that shooting from a few years back. Glad no one seems to have been hurt this time.
CrypticVillain
Woke up this morning, phone got hit up from the DC texting servicing saying M St from South Capital Street to 8th Street was blocked off because of police activity. I thought it was maybe a car accident or something. Went downstairs and caught FOX 5 and saw what was really going on. I can't believe it was happening again. Seeing all the police zooming down the street and hearing all the sirens made me think about 2013 again.

Dan T.
Why do early accounts of these incidents seem to always report two shooters, which invariably proves to be incorrect? It seems like that happens every time.
tshile
Side thoughts:Looking at the coverage and the number of officers and agencies involved, I can't help but wonder how the logistics are handled. Who has authority, how are they all communicating, is it a complete cluster-youknowwhat or is it actually well organized? Stuff you don't get to know about unless you're directly involved... Why do early accounts of these incidents seem to always report two shooters, which invariably proves to be incorrect? It seems like that happens every time. this is the first i've heard of multiple people. *shrug*

It seems like that happens every time. Because it's typical for witness statements to contradict each other? Who has authority, how are they all communicating, is it a complete cluster-youknowwhat or is it actually well organized? I bet we would all place really long odds on one of those options. RFKFedEx
The chopper has been hovering here for over 2 hours, but this is looking more and more like much ado about nothing. The hundreds of police units have begun to thin out on M St. SE.
tshile
I bet we would all place really long odds on one of those options. Yeah, my dad is retired LE, and he just walked in... I asked him what he thought... he thinks 100% it's a cluster-youknowhat. That's a lot of people, in a high stress situation, to organize... I know they train, but it still has to be extremely difficult.

skinswillwin06
Don't believe everything they tell you on the news. Steve Chenevey's (FOX 5) twitter was a complete joke. Blatantly false rumors. Disgraceful.
Renegade7
This thread title should be changed to "The problem with Television News Media trying to be first instead of Correct". I may watch PBS Newshour or want the checkout Lester Holt, but otherwise, I'm done with TV news. It's not news anymore, its entertainment.
The 12th Commandment
What it is about the Naval Yard that has attracted attention? I have no idea what it is beyond a vague picture of the place where tv NCIS headquarters is located.
