MattFancy
I know there used to be a DirecTV thread somewhere but I couldn't find it. But for any current DTV customers, there's a huge discount being offered right now. You just have to call and cancel your service. Yes, actually go through with cancelling and everything. Set a date for a week or so out so they don't just turn it off on you right away. Don't accept any offers they throw ouut right away. They'll call you a couple hours after you cancel and offer you the deal of deals... $47 off a month for 12 months Free Sunday Ticket Max 3 months movies channels $200 Visa Gift Card I had read about this earlier in the week on Slick Deals and decided to give it a shot on Friday. Worked like a charm! I even had 6 months left on my current contract.
Dont Taze Me Bro
Isn't there a chance they call you on the bluff? Make you pay the cancellation fee. I've never been one to threaten to cancel or actually do so (except one threat back in 2004). I've always just called, told the first person that I needed a supervisor. Then the next person, I want to speak the manager who has the authorization to make anything I want happen. Always have just spit out the straight facts to them. That I pay $200/month for the premium package, have for years, have always gotten Sunday NFL ticket, have been lining their pockets since 2001. Then toss in that I want the NFL Sunday Ticket for free that while I know its a selling point for new subscribers, I should be rewarded for how much money I drop to them each month. Also toss in a line like, "Listen, I'm not that guy who is going to threaten to cancel or go to Dish, Dish sucks. Just make this right." I've learned that over the years, if you have the premier package, local/regional sports package/extra HD movie channels/etc. There really isn't anything "free" they can give you, or so they will say. They usually discount the **** out of all my stuff over a 6 month and 12 month period. End result is it pays for the NFL Sunday Ticket and gives me an extra total savings (usually $50-75). I dunno, I went down the "I'll cancel" route in 2004 and was told ok, sorry to lose your business.
MattFancy
If they called my bluff then it was cheaper for me to cancel then it would have been to keep them. And if they didn't call me or whatever before they were going to shut it off I could have just told them I changed my mind and to keep the service on.
