I Bleed Burgundy N Gold
Just read the article that Mike Shanahan spoke about RG3 stating that injuries aren't to blame. I would like to hear what Redskins Nation thinks about that. Please comment.
goskins10
Just read the article that Mike Shanahan spoke about RG3 stating that injuries aren't to blame. I would like to hear what Redskins Nation thinks about that. Please comment.  During the first 9 gms of 2012, the Off scored 25.1 pts/gm. The 7 gm winning streak they scored 28.7 pts/gm. (with Robert at QB, have to back out the Cleveland gm as Cousins was the QB that gm. However, at the same time, the Def in the first 9 gms, gave up 27.6 pt/gm! During the 6 gms Robert was in, the D gave up 19.8 pts/gm, So, the offense went up by 3.6 pt/s gm! But the D went down an incredible 7.8 pts. While yes the 2 gms after the bye Robert threw for 8 TD, he only threw for 4 more the rest of the season! But also Roberts runs went from 9/gm to 6.5/gms.  MS is trying to make it sound like he was the reason for the winning streak, that the adjustments he made to make things easier for Robert were the reason for the 7 gm winning streak.  Based on the data: Mike Shanahan = liar. manchild157
There are some truths in what Shanahan said. For instance...for the passing game they closed down half the field for Griffin because he was inept at running a pro-style offense(still struggles with it obviously). Griffin has always been a workout warrior but has never spent the extra time needed to learn to be a pocket passer opting to spend his time working on his branding and tshirt slogans. Griffin never had a playbook in college, not his fault, but he's such a natural talent for running he was able to get by without having to learn a pro style offense. There are some areas where Shanahan was up against the wall as Dan Snyder gave Griffin preferential treatment and told Shanahan to decrease Griffin's runs in the 2nd year. But Shanahan is not faultless in Griffin's fall from grace. It would probably take a criminal law team to sift through all the he said/he did rhetoric to find blame but I believe it could all be blamed equally between Snyder, Shanahan, and Griffin. We all have to remember that Griffin was very young and had an incredible amount of success that fueled his arrogance. Can't say that I would have handled it any better. goskins10
I seriously do not get the personal attacks on Robert - The claims of not working hard enough - being arrogant etc.  He has struggled with playing. But you no one that does not spend every day with him can say how much he works on getting better. All his team mates say he is constantly watching film, working with the coaches, reading the playbook.  It takes 3 to 4 yrs to learn to really learn a pro-style offence. His first yr the shanny's put him an offence he cold be successful in but they knew would not last.  Yr 2, he came back from injury too soon - blame this on Robert if you want or even Snyder, but the coach makes call as to who plays. He had 100% roster control. If he did not exercise it that's on him. It's not like he needed the money, not to mention if the team fires him he gets paid anyway! He had some decent games but he also struggled. But again, let's look at a Def that gave up 30 PTs/GM!!! 30 ****ing pts a game!!! Let that sink in!!!! 30 pts!!! STs was a complete disaster - the worst I have ever seen at most any level of play (USFL, Arena League, NFL, CFL, College, High School!!). The Oline could not pass block in a pro-style offense. I am not in any way saying Robert is blameless, but you put anyone back there, especially someone learning, they would have done at least as bad. He numbers were not really that bad (before anyone says it, he almost the same yds and TDs in the first half of gms than the second - also 13 gm we were within a single score in the 4th period.)  Yr. 3 - He started pretty decent - 70% comp - did what the coaches wanted - hit the dump-offs and hope the WRs get some YAC. He gets injured early in gm 2. Comes back to get embarrassed by Tampa and SF and gets benched (something that I think was good for him.) He comes back in for the final 3 and looked at least decent. The Philly was really nice. He played very well. Oh, and again we have a D giving up 30 pts/gm. Oline regressed yet again. All 3 QBs were running for their life.  He has a great deal to learn - and this yr is a put up or shut up yr. He is gone if he doesn't play well. But keep in mind it's realistically just the second half of his 2nd yr and just the second half for this particular Off.  September cannot come soon enough! manchild157
I'm not attacking Griffin's personal life so you can stop with that...it's all about football here. I don't think his teammates who say he's constantly watching film, etc. knows what it takes to be an elite level qb ...all NFL players watch alot of film, work closely with coaches, reads the playbook whether it's defense or offense. It's not just Shanahan who says Griffin needs to spend more time studying offenses and defenses, it's past qb's like Steve Young, NFL commentators, Brian Mitchell, Doc Walker, Chris Cooley and others. People make excuses for him because he's been injured and is busy rehabbing but that's bullcrud too because what's lacking in him is spending the time one on one with as Jon Gruden has said''pouring over defenses and his offenses'' when he's not on the trainer's table. Yeah, the oline has been horrendous but Cousins had some pretty darn good games with that oline and the reason is? That's right he gets rid of the ball quickly and anticipates the timing of his receiver unlike Griffin who stares down receivers until they come open. Maybe Cousins would benefit most from the power run game, a better defense, so he doesn't have to play catch up at the end of the game which is where his interceptions come from. Anyway, I was a Griffin supportor in 2012 but some of the things after that have soured me on him, I don't think he will be the guy we want this year. Maybe he will show enough improvement to warrant keeping him for 2016. I would prefer him to take his act elsewhere and spare the team of the drama and sideshow that he has created. Â September seems forever. How about some traing camp at least!?!
goskins10
I am not going down this path again. I feel like calling him arrogant and more interested in his branding to be personal attacks. You clearly have a different opinion. OK fair enough. But please, Cousins is not the answer. He had his chances and has blown them. He has a good half here and there but pretty much stinks otherwise. Instead of sacks he throws ints. I will be glad to compare stats and results any time. Cousins will be on the short end every time.  I was not in favor of having Hard Knocks come here but now I truly wish they would. I think it would be an education for quite a few people, and I include myself in that group. Maybe we can put to rest much of the rumor and innuendo that's been floating around this team, one way or the other.
manchild157
I really don't know of anything in his personal life that I could comment about and people shouldn't even mention it, although I think he's a good citizen, son, and husband and will be a good father. That being said most of the things I have a problem with is the result of him having alot of success so early in his career(his success was only 7 games) that he didn't feel the need to work on the mental aspects of the game and opted to work on his body, then getting in league with the owner to tell the coach to stop running him so much. He wanted to be a pocket passer without doing the necessary work involved...that's arrogance. Â Face it, we don't have a starting qb off their performance. We got a starting qb off of potential...potential that may or may not come to fruition. Â I was against Hard Knocks but I've kinda softened on that because I can't get enough of the Redskins. Plus maybe Scot will instruct to be as vanilla as possible to not give HBO what they crave. Then again we got the name issue that will rears it's ugly head with protests outside the gates. Â We can disagree without banging our heads trying to convince each other. Peace!
