Boss_Hogg
Baltimore Police say they have received a "credible threat" that rival gangs have teamed up to "take out" law enforcement officers. Police said in a statement that they have received information that members of "various gangs" — including the Black Guerrilla Family, the Bloods and the Crips — have "entered into a partnership" to harm police. "Law enforcement agencies should take appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of their officers," police said. Capt. Eric Kowalczyk, the agency's chief spokesman, said he could not immediately elaborate on how the information was received or why police found it credible. He would not say whether it was believed connected to the ongoing demonstrations regarding the death of Freddie Gray. In December, the Baltimore FBI office issued a memo that the Black Guerrilla Family gang was targeting "white cops" in Maryland, an agency spokeswoman confirmed. The memo, circulating among officers, said a contact who had given reliable information in the past said members of the gang — connected to the high-profile corruption scandal at the Baltimore City Detention Center — were planning to target white officers to "send a message." And in January, police were on heightened alert after a man brought a gun into the Northeastern District police station with a handgun and said it was part of a "security test" ordered by the BGF. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/blog/bs-md-ci-freddie-gray-gang-threat-20150427-story.html

Bang
It makes me sad that I cannot tell if this is just a terrible coincidence, or a more coordinated effort to influence the narrative over what's going on. I believe 1000000% that there are some in this country actively encouraging this sort of thing, agitating protests, antagonizing and threatening. Fear and anger.. there's profit there. There's profit in trying to touch off revolts, in trying to touch off race wars, in trying to touch off civil wars. There's profit in the death it can cause, there's profit in the headlines it creates, it rings the cash register. Anger one side, frighten the other, and what do you know, they all go buy the same stuff. Politicians cash in. Media cashes in. Interest group;s cash in. Agitators don't cost much compared to the profit. ~Bang

If people would look even deeper they might see that the first and biggest step towards creating this environment, was when almost everyone was made a criminal by making so many things illegal. Even our presidents were criminals.
Bang
Yeah, but why is the story breaking today? They said they got this information, and sent memos around, in January and December. Now, end of April, after some protests over a controversy with someone dying while in police custody, they release it. Either a huge coincidence, or... Well, i can see why you don't release this info. It can cause a panic in the public, divisiveness in the public, vigilantes "helping" the cops, or helping the gangs.. . all sorts of things. Especially since December or when this was released we also have not seen any reported cases of this gang cooperation happening to take out or take on any Baltimore cops. (Reported, mind you. Never know.) But now when there's potential trouble that could easily spill over into more and more violent riots and mob rule streets.. rather than panic the public, now it becomes info that they need to be aware of situations that could develop. I'd say the chances of something like a coordinated ambush have increased exponentially in the last few days. After the riots in Missouri, an ambush happened. In NYC an ambush (by someone from Baltimore if i recall correctly) happened and two cops were killed sitting in their squad car. ~Bang

tshile
Well, I'd like to see the Mayor spin this into it being outsiders... it's kids, after they got out school. Not outsiders. I honestly think the police need to leave and let it all happen. What we don't need is for a cop to shoot someone (justified or not) today. Part of me agrees with you, but the other part of me recognizes there are people that live/work there that will have their stuff destroyed if the police just leave them be. They pay taxes too... how is that fair to them?

I'm sure the insurance companies will love her for this too. She spent all weekend saying that what went on over the weekend was from outsiders. I don't doubt that for a second, but what happened (is happening) today is from their own kids once they got out of school. At this point I'm sure outsiders are also contributing... This is what people want... if they try to shut it down then everyone criticizes the local government (not just the police) for "infringing on free speech." The best is when the cops show up in full riot gear with the armored vehicles and then they blame the police for instigating it by making it a military zone. So we have to accept that when this happens people get to destroy whatever crap they want to. I think it's absurd, but this is where we are right now. As wrong as I think the officials are for letting this go on the way they do, they're stuck in a bind. They clearly have decided it's better to let them destroy stuff. Wonder who pays for it all... Lombardi's_kid_brother
Yeah these riots will certain accomplish something good...... Maybe. Maybe not. What has 20 years of protest against increased militarization of police departments accomplished? I'm not writing this to say that violence is a proper means of addressing these types of wrongs. But I was in law school in Pittsburgh in the late 90s when the Johnny Gammage story happened. I was at the peaceful protests around that. Nothing changed. Around that same time, Abner Louima happened. Perhaps because the man did not die, those officers actually were convicted. Which is the definition of irony. But it changed nothing within Guiliani's NYPD. A few years later, Amadou Diallo happened. Again, nothing changed within the NYPD. In fact, most people seemed to support the NYPD when they protested Springsteen's 41 Shots song a few years later. When these kinds of incidents happen time and time again, and local officials react with a shrug, eventually this is going to happen.
Kosher Ham
Rioting is flat out stupid. There is no reason to destroy your communities, or even another place to make your point. Sit ins and peaceful protests did the job back in the 60's. I hate it. LKB, Are you suggesting anarchy ? I really don't want to go into the safe.
