Brandon Scherff 'Pretty Happy' With Pro Day Performance

Recommended Posts

Ok, where is Canada????   You win!  I am with you on Oline at #5, if we don't trade back. I still like trading back better as I think we can still get starting quality Oline later in the draft, and trading back gives us more quality picks to fill those gapping holes faster.

But this kid Scherff is last years Zack Martin. He starts day 1 and sits there for 10 yrs. Instant Pro-bowler. Just forget about the position, probably LG.RG. They say that's too high for a Guard and I was buying that for a while. But a guy who is starter ready, in a position we need desperately, that will plug that hole for the next 8 to 10 yrs or more barring injuries? Hard to pass on that guy if we don't trade back.

To me, the whole point of having a high draft pick is having the luxury of selecting whomever you want at any position you want. As a team you obviously address the biggest need & in my eyes that's the O-line. This Scherff kid is supposed to be 1 of, if not the best, linemen in the draft. So, if the O-line is a priority, & you have the pick of the litter, then why not take the best player you can? Who cares if its a G at #5. Like you said, that hole will be plugged for the next 10 years. Isn't that what having the #5 overall pick is supposed to do for you?

He apparently has amazingly quick feet for a big guy:

Scherff didn't run all the drills at the combine, mostly because his high profile didn't dictate he needed to, but his 3-cone score measured at his pro day was off-the-charts impressive. Measuring change of direction and short area burst, Scherff's time, according to Josh Norris of Rotoworld and NBC Sports, would have been the second-best at the combine for an offensive lineman since 2006.

Packers' writer Nick Schwalbach tweeted:

Brandon Scherff's 7.07 3 cone at his pro day was faster than 7 WR's at the combine, including Jamison Crowder.
