The stupid politician of the day thread - Share your quotes here!

Lets keep this as light and fun as possible.

I've had this idea for some time. People keep accusing me of being unfair to republicans, the common refrain being that there are stupid politicians on both sides. So here's your chance to chance to prove it. Lets all post the dumbest things politicians from any party say and have a good laugh at our morons in office.

I'll start with the most recent, dumbest thing I have heard:

Idaho lawmaker asks if woman can swallow camera for gynecological exam before medical abortion | Star Tribune

Dr. Julie Madsen, a physician who said she has provided various telemedicine services in Idaho, was testifying in opposition to the bill. She said some colonoscopy patients may swallow a small device to give doctors a closer look at parts of their colon.

"Can this same procedure then be done in a pregnancy? Swallowing a camera and helping the doctor determine what the situation is?" Barbieri asked.

Madsen replied that would be impossible because swallowed pills do not end up in the vagina.

"Fascinating. That makes sense," Barbieri said, amid the crowd's laughter.

And in an effort towards fairness since I cant think of anything recent from the left, I'll go with one of the dumbest statements I have ever heard from a sitting VP.

Biden encourages Americans to use shotguns to scare off intruders | Fox News

Dr. Julie Madsen, a physician who said she has provided various telemedicine services in Idaho, was testifying in opposition to the bill. She said some colonoscopy patients may swallow a small device to give doctors a closer look at parts of their colon.

Yeah, I'll admit that I believe one party is far dumber than the other at this point in time but I'll keep an open mind and allow the evidence to speak for itself.

Please include links to quotes for verification and context.

Oh and remember, lets keep this as light and fun as possible. :)

Might as well put that last sentence bolded at the top and bottom of the OP.

Good luck man.

The parties do not always reflect the views of people.

I agree...both parties have elected pitiful examples a t times, of what they intend to represent.

That said...We just need a giant eraser...we don't need party lines...we need to focus on the greater goal.

Good point. Will do.

And I have said for 30+ years that the party system doomed to failure because it creates conflict rather than cooperation.

Why don't we start with a modern classic...

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

– William Todd Akin-- U.S. Representative for Missouri

His one's real old, but it's pretty funny. As a speaker, Quayle made Joe Biden look like Winston Churchill.

“The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation’s history. … No, not our nation’s, but in World War II. I mean, we all lived in this century. I didn’t live in this century, but in this century’s history”

– Dan Quayle (former Vice President) – Source

And as long as we're picking on Quayle, Obama being a constitutional lawyer should know better...

“I’ve now been in 57 states… I think one left to go.”

– President Barack Obama – Source

I love you, dude...Todd Akin's response will never die, tho he wants it to, desperately...his next will be "Get On With Life"..."your responses to a cry for help"

You could fill this entire thread with Biden soundbites. I am surprised they let him open his mouth.

Don't do that. Just post them so we can laugh at them. Otherwise, it's just sniping.  Besides, no one out Bushism's Bush :silly:

One of the issues I had with starting this thread is the recognition that "stupid" will be open to interpretation at times. That being said, I find Scott Walkers comments on this issue, simple minded at best, and moronic at the extreme.

Scott Walker Stands By Claim Reagan's Union-Busting Was 'Most Significant' Foreign Policy Decision

"It sent a message not only across America, it sent a message around the world," Walker said, according to The Washington Post, claiming the action showed foreign allies and enemies that "we weren't to be messed with."

"Years later, documents released from the Soviet Union showed that that exactly was the case," he said. "The Soviet Union started treating [Reagan] more seriously once he did something like that. Ideas have to have consequences. And I think [President Barack Obama] has failed mainly because he's made threats and hasn't followed through on them."

PolitiFact investigated the claims, finding no evidence the documents ever existed. "It's utter nonsense," Jack Matlock, Reagan's ambassador to the Soviet Union, told PolitiFact. "There is no evidence of that whatever."

Now come on people, I honestly want to see some current stupid democrat quotes. I freely admit my bias in noticing stupid republican statements and I would like to see the worst the dems have to offer.

Seriously, I'm thinkin' hard...I've got Sarah all over the board, and Louie is an ace in the hole, (but that asparagus saying was actually valid)...

Dems should win this game easily.

(If it were a game. Unfortunately, it's our reality.)

Lets see some links please. And I have to point out that some of those are CLEARLY only stupid to partizan opinions.

Every month that we do not have an economic recovery package 500 million Americans lose their jobs. --Pelosi

Total 2008 job loss: 2.6 million - Jan. 9, 2009

"We're seeing a complete unraveling of the labor market and are on track for getting beyond 10% unemployment," said Lawrence Mishel, president of the Economic Policy Institute.

The total number of unemployed Americans rose by 632,000 to 11.1 million.

November, in which 584,000 jobs were lost, and December marked the first time in the 70-year history of the report in which the economy lost more than 500,000 jobs in consecutive months.

While stupid on the surface, it seems clear that she misspoke and was trying to reference the 500,000 job number from this report. And I'm no fan of Pelosi.

Then there is this one:

“What we’ve done is we’ve expanded my authorities under executive action and prosecutorial discretion…” Obama

Its a statement. I fail to see what is funny about it or what point you are trying to make.

List of United States federal executive orders - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Executive orders by...

Reagan: 381

GW Bush: 291

Obama: 194

The Hank Johnson quote is more in line with the theme of this thread. Clearly moronic to anyone with three functional brain cells.

Jodie Laubenberg, Texas GOP Lawmaker, Suggests Rape Kits Can Give Abortions

Amid a heated debate over a restrictive anti-abortion bill being pushed by Texas GOP lawmakers, one Republican argued that a proposed exemption for rape victims was unnecessary because assaulted women could simply turn to rape kits for abortions.

"In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits, where a woman can get cleaned out," said state Rep. Jodie Laubenberg ®, sponsor of the controversial SB 5,according to The Associated Press.

Like the idea of the thread.  But I suggest that a rule requiring only NEW quotes might greatly enhance the odds of the thread's (and some posters) surviving.

I think it'll be OK, those who feel the need to use the way back machine will soon run out of material while those who understand the premiss will be provided new material almost daily.

I remember doing this for a while on the subject of bias in the mainstream media.  I was shocked given the tens of thousands of articles, tv and radio shows produced daily how little bias could actually be found (and there were some doing their damnedest to find some). Made me feel pretty good about our modern American mainstream media.  Now, if ya added FOX and conservative radio into the question... the bias jumped like a moonshot.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on being elected despite being besieged by accusations of groping and Nazi sympathy:

“The people of California have spoken. And they have said a resounding ‘yes’ to the groping and a resounding ‘yes’ to Hitler!”

I declare this post null and void.  :)

Toehold: An election night memory.

An election night memory.

Shortly after Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected Governor of CaliforniaConan O'Briendid a bit where a Clutch Cargo mock up of the Governor discussed his victory. There had been talk about a connection to Nazis, and there had been talk about sexual harassment.

The simulated Schwarzenegger commented on the election, "the people of California have spoken. And they have said a resounding yes to the groping and a resounding yes to Hitler!"

Again..... PLEASE PROVIDE QUOTES FOR VERIFICATION AND CONTEXT.
