REDSKINS ADD DAVE RAGONE TO COACHING STAFF

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have named Dave Ragone as Offensive Quality Control Coach.

Ragone joins the Redskins with six seasons of NFL experience, including three as an assistant coach for the Tennessee Titans from 2011-13. In 2012 as the Titans’ wide receivers coach, Ragone helped rookie Kendall Wright lead all NFL rookie receivers with 64 receptions.

Prior to entering the NFL coaching ranks, Ragone spent one season with the United Football League’s Hartford Colonials as the team’s quarterbacks coach. Under Ragone, Hartford quarterback Josh McCown led the league in passer rating and touchdown passes in 2010.

Ragone spent three seasons as an NFL quarterback with the Houston Texans from 2003-05. In the spring of 2005, he also spent time in NFL Europe with the Berlin Thunder and earned league Offensive MVP honors for his performance, leading the league in passer rating (97.5) and setting a league record by throwing 174 consecutive passes without an interception. He was originally a third-round selection by Houston in the 2003 NFL Draft after finishing his career at Louisville, where he was a three-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and led his team to three consecutive bowl games.

A native of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, Ragone was an All-State selection at St. Ignatius H.S. in Cleveland.

No Tampa connection?

UFL coach in 2010, could have crossed paths with Gruden there.

But this guy just basically sets up equipment and scrubs the dirt off the tackling dummies after practice, right? Spit shines Snyder's golf cart during training camp?

I love that we're expanding the staff.

I just have reservations that we've improved the staff to any large degree. Not over what we had. But to any great quality.

But the very fact we've accepted the need for serious change is a massive bonus from what we've been

Hail.

Callahan is still most interesting hire.  If he is able to bring along any of these young guys (Compton, Long, Moses, McRib) then it will give us something to build off of when Jay gets fired next season.

Also, I remember Ragone being like the only good NFL Europe player in Madden several years back so he gets a few cool points in my book  B)

Since speaking to close Texan Dallas friends, Callaghan gives me pause.

Let's just say nobody in Dallas was too upset to lose a guy on the downside of his career who they had misgivens about the last year or two.

Certainly an upgrade but I'm not jumping through hoops the way many have.

Interesting, BIG year for the staff to see who sticks and who leaves as you know I'm with you that I don't see anything other than the HC entering his last season as I currently type.

Hail.

I like the Callahan hire because he brings experience to the offensive staff that was lacking last year.

Callahan has down everything Jay has except to this point better. HC, OC and position coach.

He's someone Jay can lean on that knows the WCO better then anyone on the staff last year and arguably better then Jay.

I think people wrongly pigeon hole him Callahan as a ZBS guy or a pass heavy guy or a run heavy guy but he's been all 3 and more.

In short he's a seasoned offensive coach in the league that was sorely missing last year.

In fact he has a much better resume to be the OC then McVay but so does Matt Cavanuagh for that matter.

-As a whole I wouldn't be too worried about what fans say. Look at what gets said in this forum ;)

Take this as a major compliment when I say the Texan Dallas fans I'm close to know football and give me as stimulating and informed conversation as your good self and a select few others I class as real knowledgeable football guy's on a level FAR above the average 'fan.'

I'm one of the latter but it's good to be allowed to hang with you football geeks all the same.  :P.

Hail.
