REDSKINS ADD CHAD GRIMM TO COACHING STAFF

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have named Chad Grimm as Defensive Quality Control Coach.

Grimm is entering his seventh NFL season after spending the last two years in the same capacity with the San Diego Chargers. Grimm spent his first four NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after entering the league in 2009 as an offensive quality control coach.

Grimm played collegiately as a linebacker and special teamer at Virginia Tech from 2003-06. The Fairfax, Va. native played both football and lacrosse at Oakton H.S. in Vienna, Va., helping the school reach the state finals in both sports for the first time in school history.

Grimm is the son of Russ Grimm, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champion who stands as one of the most decorated players in Redskins history. Russ – a founding member of the franchise’s famed “Hogs” – played 11 seasons in Washington from 1981-91 and served in various assistant roles for the team from 1992-2000.

GRIMM FOOTBALL TIMELINE

2013-14: Defensive Quality Control Coach, San Diego Chargers

2009-12: Offensive Quality Control Coach, Arizona Cardinals

2003-06: Linebacker, Virginia Tech

Heady reputation to live up to.

Here's hoping your even a tenth as influential on this franchise as your father.

If you are, we'll have one heck of an addition.

Hail.

Kind of odd that we only have two folks associated with that era in the entire building.  Grimm and Doug Williams.  Maybe it's not strange at all actually, but kind of an odd reflection.

Sounds like he's a QUALITY signing. Ahahaha. Ha. ha.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

This is an important signing. Last year, a frequent criticism was that the locker room was too loose and the team lacked focus.  One thing we know is that Chad will bring a Grimm seriousness to this squad.

(I will not be out punned!)

Good for him though. Russ was always a good dude and I am sure he taught his son's Cody and Chad well.

Both just had "it" ... think Cody was like 5'11 and built but not big in HS ... but the kid laid the wood and got a walk-on at VT and ended up being quite the safety there ... to the extent he was drafted by the Bucs. If you saw this kid in HS you would not think "NFL" ... they just have it in their blood.

oddly enough, I played football and lacrosse against him, and youth soccer when we were younger... It was fun whoopin' his ass.

Cool. I know people joke, but IMO lacrosse is a bad ass game.

I don't know. He might have a sonny disposition.

Yes sir. Fastest game on two feet. Would have played collegiate but had injuries.  I actually coach youth lacrosse now and my neighbor owns a Lacrosse wear and accessories store.

Casey Powell is the legend... look him up if you don't know him and are interested in the game.

CHAMPIONSHIP! No seriously, his stats from the past several season have been fairly impressive.  Top 10 in at least 2 categories for 2 out of the past 3.  One of his former coaches said about him "He really controls his quality.  Its one of the things we like most about him".

I like the hire. Young pup trying to get his feet wet.

But someone will come in here and say this is a Grimm hire.

Touché!

More nepotism huh? Ols

Most of the Gibbs I era Redskins that are in coaching or in Personnel jobs are doing outstanding work.  So I'm okay with hiring the offspring of one of them (Mackenzie, Murphy, Bowles, Russ Grimm has had success).

Right now we're dealing with the offspring of the decade prior.

Can someone tell me what a quality control coach is? I've honestly never heard of this position before.

I've seen that be a starting position for a few coaches, Kyle Shanahan sticks out.  Gibbs's son Coy was a quality assistant for the offense during 2.0.  I see it on a lot of resumés, and it always seems to be an entry-level position.
