ES has found a few good new mods

We've typically not added staff this way, but after discussion internally we've decided we wanted to know who out there in ES land is genuinely interested in becoming a moderator on this site

We plan on adding a few members to the ES staff over the coming months. So if you're interested, let us know by raising your hand. Obviously we are looking for members who are active on the site and are passionate about the board. IT competence is definitely a plus but not required

I don't have IT skills, but I do hate everything and everyone. My question is, as objective observers, will we be allowed to give our 2 cents as to an individuals qualifications and/or suitability for the job? I would like to be able to argue for/against different posters without it becoming a big deal.

I think the current mods are well qualified to choose from those who volunteer to moderate ES.  I don't think this process should be open to debate among the ES general population (sounds like prison!).

Having been a mod for a board in the past, I know what a hard job it is, especially amongst those who are regularly contentious and rulebreaking.

Let me make clear, I am not throwing my hat into the ring, I have a very packed personal agenda right now, between work assignments, trying to get my house ready for sale, and going full time RV and all that entails.

I respect the mods' decision as to whom they choose.  Thank you all for a most times thankless task!

What is the time requirment? And does it help to be a know-it-all bully who will ban anyone and everyone the moment they disagree with anything you say?

Seriously though--I'd love to help out, but I have a 40+ hr a week job, plus an 11-month old...

Well, part of the issue is a lot of the current staff has had life (or attitude :P) intrude upon their availability. I have long been harassed by some in my life (not ES'ers) who question the time I put in here given my personal and professional schedule (but that's been changing). But even though we need some time from those selected to do what needs to be done the most, it should still be a matter of maybe around than 6-8 hours per week (spitballin', don't crucify me for inaccuracy) unless one has more time. The best thing is to maybe have an hour or more each day, some of it as you can in pieces, and hopefully some of it where you can be on the board for a hour or so continuous several times  each week. Roughly.  :P

Other mods will likely have other feedback on this.  :)

^Sounds good, I'll throw my hat in the pile... I'm here entirely too much, even if I try to stay away anyway, lol. I have an IT background (Bachelors in Computer Science), though my career has taken quite a different course and I haven't used it at all for almost ten years now. But, yeah, definitely computer literate I'd say.

I love the rules here and believe it's one of the cleanest, well-maintained and easy to read discussion boards I've ever seen so I think I'd be good at handling that side of it.

The one warning I would give (although this may just speak to where my own head is at) is when I was promoted from reporter/producer to senior producer the relationships changed and they way people communicated with you do as well. I very fondly remember Zoony and Jumbo as very funny guys pre-modship, but while that persona occassionally still peeks out so often I see them wearing their serious face.. or more when they enter the room it's like when the adult enters the room during a kids' sleep over.

That said, it's probably a worthy position and the perks are extraordinary!

I can put up with a lot, burg, but calling me an adult is really taking liberties.

And I am still funnier than hell a whole bunch of the time. So there.

I'm not sure I have the ego to be sure that I'm the right fit for this, or the coping ability to withstand a glance behind the curtain so to speak. ;) But I'll throw my hat into the ring as well.

I'm a little younger than your average ES'er, I believe. But I like to think that over the years as my posts have become a little less impulsive, they've become a little more thoughtful. :) I've been around for a while now and I'm passionate about this place. I posted recently about it, and many times over the years, but ES holds a special place in my heart. Raised a Skins fan in CT (and now being in Boston), this place was my first real chance to "hang out" and interact with other Redskins fans, and I owe everyone here a great amount due to that. I'd like to give back, and I'd be willing to help shoulder the load of what I know (as much as an outsider can) is thankless work. Over the years I think I've proven to be one of the members who "gets it", but then I'm not privy to my own user notes :)

I'm a night owl, and message board browsing has and continues to be a nightly ritual. So I have an hour or two a day to contribute. No IT background, but a working knowledge of computers and an ability to learn whatever is needed.

Above all I hope you guys find the right fit--this place is special, and regardless of all the "good ol' days reminiscing" that goes on here and really anywhere on the Internet that has any type of established culture and history, it remains special.
