Seahawks corner says Rob Gronkowski isn't that good

Should be expected right?

First, a disclaimer: "Bulletin-board material" is a farce.

If an NFL player needs an opponent to say something out of line about him or his team to get excited to play a game, he's probably in the wrong profession. If a player needs that extra motivation for a Super Bowl, it's really time to retire.

So we don't point out Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane's comments because they are so-called "bulletin-board material" before the Super Bowl. They're just hilariously wrong.

Here's Lane on New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowskivia the Seattle Times:

“I actually don’t think he’s that good,” Lane said. “He’s OK. But he does have a big body, and from what I’ve seen on tape, he don’t like your hands being put on him. So if we put our hands on him and shake him up a little bit, he won’t catch that many balls as he should.”

He's OK? You can argue (and I have) that Gronkowski is the most dominant tight end in NFL history. He has 52 touchdowns in 65 games. He has double-digit touchdowns in four of five seasons– and played only seven games in the season he didn't reach 10.

Tony Gonzalez reached double digits in touchdowns three times in his 17 NFL campaigns. Shannon Sharpe had two in 14 seasons. Oh, and Gronkowski is also a fantastic blocker. So yeah, his best receiving seasons are better than any other tight end in NFL history and as a bonus he's a plus blocker, unlike a lot of the most prolific receiving tight ends through the years.

He's "OK" in the same way that any Hall-of-Fame tight end was "OK."

But this Seahawks defense that Lane is a part of is more than just OK as well. They're one of the best defenses ever. It'll be quite fun to see if they can control Gronk. Not many opponents have.

Translation: Let's commit pass interference every play and see if we get away with it like last year!

Interesting other point, time to see if the league is going to crack down in the SB or not?  Typically, they allow them to play, but cracked down this season because of Seattle's SB last year.

It's a misconception that pros don't need or use bulletin board material. Jordan was notorious for interpreting anything he could as an insult to push,

himself to greater heights.

I agree. Why anyone would say anything like this before a big game is beyond me. There is very little upside.

The weakness in the Seahawks defense is they can't cover TEs.

Go back and look at their games and see what TEs did to them.

Antonio Gates - 7rec, 96yds, 3TDs

Julius Thomas - 3rec, 17yds, 1TD

Witten/Escobar - 3rec, 26yds, 2TDs

Cook/Kendricks - 5rec, 42yds, 1TD

Mychal Rivera - 8rec, 38yds, 2TDs

Zach Ertz - 2rec, 39yds, 1TD

The Seahawks defense allowed 17 passing TDs on the season. 10 of those were to the TE. They're going to have their hand's full with Gronk.

Seriously, those numbers say to you "can't cover TEs? Because Gates is the only decent day on that list. The only thing you're going on is TDs, of which only two were over 10 yards and six were less than 5 yards. I really don't know what you're looking at.

Maybe can't cover TEs was a little hyperbole, but if you want to attack their defense, it seems that is the way to do it. Like I said, they allowed 17 passing TDs during the regular season and 10 of them went to the TE.
