MattFancy
Here we go again: Per Rotoworld: FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles and Blue Jays have discussed a compensation package that Baltimore would require for executive VP/GM Dan Duquette to take the CEO job with Toronto. The two sides aren't close to an agreement, but the Orioles at least appear willing to consider the possibility. Duquette is currently under contract through 2018, but Rosenthal hears that some with Baltimore want him to go. It's an awkward situation, so a quick resolution would probably be the best thing for all parties involved.

rictus58
might be one reason. But really, we didn't do much last offseason until right before camp. If the O's prevent him from leaving, would he be bitter enough to do "nothing"? Bundy is throwing without restrictions now. There's a bright spot. ixcuincle
Dan Duqette was the GMSM of baseball. He had an eye for talent but had personal problems dealing with people (allegedly). Sad to see him go MacPhail and all predecessors dating back for decades were failures; it's no coincidence the winning started after Duqette took the reins Good luck in Tor

He's under contract. Also, MacPhail was not a failure. Not by a long shot. He's just as responsible for the O's current success as Duq. He traded for Tillman and Jones. He signed Wieters. He traded for JJ Hardy for NOTHING. He drafted Machado. He put the deal to move to Sarasota together. He traded for Hunter and Davis. Oh and he hired Showalter. Under his watch the O's brought in Jones, Tillman, Wieters, Hardy, etc. We weren't able to put it all together until Duquette got here, but McPhail brought in all the key pieces. MattFancy
I don't know. I think he went wherever the money was obviously. But the Braves certainly don't seem to be contenders on paper at least this season. You'd think for an older guy like Markakis, he'd want to go to a team that was dead set on contending and no rebuilding. I still think it was the right move for the O's. He is having offseason neck surgery and he just hasn't been the impact guy the O's need. Don't get me wrong, he was good for us, but he hasn't been the guy we all thought he was going to be after he signed that big deal back in 2009. rictus58
Right now i guess the question for the Orioles, is how much in return the Blue Jays will give us for DD. He'll be gone before opening day. At this point, it's best to just let him go. Do you want someone who isn't content in that position? I'm not saying he would purposefully hurt the team, but it's best to not keep people from advancing.

He still has what 3 years left on his contract and he'd be going to a division rival. I wouldn't settle for anything less than one of their top prospects. pjfootballer
It just worries me that we will go back to B.D. status (Before Dan) under Angelos and suck again. Like Abe Pollin, I'm just playing the waiting game with Angelos.

There's always a worry when you go from someone who has proven himself, to an unknown.

Was definitely the right call for the O's and I don't feel bad for Markakis is at all. I'm just wondering what he is thinking as Atlanta signs him but continues to gut their team. Doesn't actually make sense from the Braves perspective either. Anyway, who is the O's assistant GM? I wonder if a guy like Mike Bordick would be interested. He knows the organization inside and out and I'm looking for a GM that wouldn't want to rock the boat unnecessarily. I wouldn't be surprised if DD wanted out cause he wants a bigger payroll. Rocky21
Looks like Duquette's leaving is going to happen any day because Angelos said “that is not going to happen. Especially during the winter meetings and free agency period. Ridiculous.
