Just reserved the oceanfront condo in Cocoa Beach for the spring training visit. Looking forward to an up close look at our new second baseman [fill in the blank], to see Lucas Giolito up close, and to sample beers at the Cocoa Beach Brewing Company.

I am thinking about doing that next year or the year after when my daughter is a bit older, probably at the new facility. And then spend a couple days at Disney World as well

Sounds like fun. I would recommend that order, because if you do Disney first with that sensory overload, the laconic pace of spring training in comparison will seem like torture to her!

The last two years we timed our arrival to get into Orlando a few hours before the Nats played the Braves at their stadium at Disney's Wide World of Sports. We'd drive right there from the airport, then head to Cocoa after the game.

My Uncle owns a house about a half hour from Viera. I think I'll go down this March to catch some ST games. I work from home so it's not like I couldn't work anyway.

Edit - For what it's worth, I would have given up a AJ Cole and a small piece for Dee Gordon.

Good article on Smiley Gonzalez:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/former-nats-prospect-whose-deception-brought-down-the-teams-dominican-operation-is-still-chasing-his-dream/2015/01/01/655c19a4-9069-11e4-a412-4b735edc7175_story.html

He might have been one of the most beneficial signings ever. Not so much for what he did on the field, but off it. He finally caused the Lerners to dump Bowden and elevate Rizzo

RT @MiLB Top @Nationals prospect @LGio27 says having no innings limit in '15 is "going to be awesome." http://t.co/phAMtseviW

He won't be on one like Strasburg or JZ were, but his innings will be limited. The minors exist to develop players and pitcher are no exception. When you're scheduled to work, you work. Which means that starters rarely go deep in to games. He'll probably get ~25 starts which will work out to around 130 innings. 2016 he'll start in Triple A, get about ~150 innings in and get a September call up. 2017 he'll be in the rotation.

The Giants, Nationals, Angels, and Cubs are seriously pursuing Ben Zobrist with the Rays‘ asking price being at least one top prospect and a mid-level one.

Dan Uggla is confident in returning to his former self after being diagnosed with oculomotor dysfunction (poor motion vision when moving the head or body), which was caused by being hit in the head by a pitch on two separate occasions. After a two-week exercise regimen, doctors have declared the second baseman’s motion vision normal. The Nationals, who signed Uggla to a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite the day after Christmas, have prior experience in dealing with oculomotor dysfunction, as Denard Span suffered through it in 2013. The Orioles and Rangers also expressed interest in Uggla.

So two things. First, we're in on Zobrist. I'm down with that, though I don't know what high level and mid level prospect they would want. But that move only makes sense if there is a long term solution for second base. Maybe Espinosa, but I doubt it.

The more interesting articles are about Uggla's struggles. Apparently, he suffered a concussion in 2012 and again in 2013 and the result was suffering from oculmotor dysfunction. The article claims this is a large part of Uggla's struggles. He has apparently correct the issue. So perhaps, Rizzo's signing of Uggla wasn't such an awful thing? I'm skeptical, but it is interesting to note that there was a driving factor behind Rizzo signing Uggla and not just grabbing and old player (like Lidge and Soriano?)

So maybe Rizzo sends the Rays one of the prospects they got for Souza? That makes it Souza+ for Zobrist.

The Uggla situation will be interesting to watch in ST. If, and that's a big IF, he's improved maybe that makes Espi expendable.

Eh, I'm really skeptical. It was a minor league deal with an invite to ST. If Rizzo wants to get in the business of long shots, go get Beachy.

If the Yankees lose out on the Scherzer sweepstakes, they're going to want/need a frontline starter. We could package Zimmermann and Espinosa for Refsnyder and another prospect. Maybe someone like Luis Torrens, Jose Campos, or Jose Ramirez
