btfoom
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/12/05/clinton-says-america-should-empathize-with-its-enemies/ Hillary Clinton is taking heat for saying America should “empathize” and show “respect” for its enemies. The former secretary of State, who is considered a likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, made the remarks during a speech Wednesday at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Touting an approach she calls “smart power,” Clinton urged America to use “every possible tool and partner” to advance peace. This, she said, includes “leaving no one on the sidelines, showing respect even for one’s enemies, trying to understand and insofar as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view.” <rest at link> This statement alone shows why this woman is completely unqualified to be President of the US. We don't need to 'empathize' with folks like the 9-11 terrorists or ISIS.

PF Chang
I must be missing the part where she mentioned ISIS... Or even anything unreasonable. I'm sure Fox News would be disappointed to learn this, but we're no longer in the 15th century. Politics and war have changed. I'd be much more concerned if she gave foreign policy the dominating warlord rhetoric.

We don't need to 'empathize' with folks like the 9-11 terrorists or ISIS. I disagree. Many of our enemies grow up with a deep rooted hatred of the west in general and specifically the US. It's all well and good to bomb them into oblivion and blow them out of the water, but at some point you stop to ask yourself why they keep popping up, why new organizations keep being able to recruit and draw people to their cause so easily. At some point, you ask yourselves, what is happening in their lives to make them want to do these things? And, what can we do to end a culture in which people grow up and are easily convinced that we are the problem, so that we don't have to keep going back to fight expensive wars every other decade. We don't need to 'empathize' with folks like the 9-11 terrorists or ISIS. This statement alone shows a giant amount of ignorance. Empathize, respect, understanding, etc doesn't mean the US will be cuddling with their enemies, but taking the moral high ground and attempting to understand why our enemies hate us might lead to less wars and more peace. Bombing everyone relentlessly certainly hasn't helped stop terrorism/wars/enemies of the US.

She said we should "empathize with their perspective and point of view" These are people who are dedicated to killing as many 'non-believers' as possible. They aren't rational, thought out folks. They have been fed decades and decades of propoganda that the US and the west are demons that need to be killed. You don't empathize with these people. Sacks 'n' Stuff
I suppose if China came over here and took all of our coal, picked our leaders for us, and I saw American police officers walking around with Chinese flags on their uniforms, we'd all be pretty hacked off. There is no rationalizing with these people. They are not like you and me. They can't appreciate other points of view. They don't believe that people should have the liberty to live their lives as they want. They refuse to abide by common rules of conduct for civilized societies. They are given chances time and time again, and they simply refuse to accept that anyone else can hold an opinion or belief contrary to what they do. You can't reason with them. There are only two options. You either ignore them and hope they don't hurt you, or you kill them.

AsburySkinsFan
I'm sorry, but I forgot that America was a Christian nation founded upon the teachings and commandments of God perfected in the incarnation of the divine in Jesus Christ who taught his disciples to love their enemies. I'll say it again, America is NOT a Christian nation....the church in America is instead the religion of America.

Absolutely! I think you should welcome them. I, for one, know that the Communist Party really love it when the teachers come right out and great them, while invading. Good call! LOL........... I think we should try and show empathy to everybody. I think we should negotiate where it makes sense to negotiate and we should fight to win where negotiations fail to work. Burgold
Gee, know your enemies used to be a good thing. I remember a lawyer (prosecutor) once telling me that he wanted to know the opposing counsel's arguments better than he did. Isn't it just good strategy to know, empathize with the enemy. If you know and understand where they are coming from it gives you better tools to deal with them, anticipate them, and address the problems they pose. What should we be trying to negotiate for now currently in Syria? What do we want? Why should anybody over there give it to us? And why is any of our business?
